Mallory's skeptical stare followed her brother until he was out of sight. Suddenly a voice burst out laughing. "T-that was g-gold, I can't believe Esperenza didn't n-notice i-it," Selena hacked laughing hysterically.

Mallory turned to Selena and, not laughing, said,"Yeah it was as plain as day." Mallory had always been skeptical about her brother's strange behaviour that had developed suddenly around Esperenza. This scene had confirmed her suspicions correct. The nervousness of his tone, his shifting when sitting next to her in biology, they way he reacted when he was selected to be partners with Esperenza. It all came to one conclusion. She'd always known how Esperenza viewed Jake and now it seemed Jake shared this view.

"What didn't I notice?" Esperenza's voice ripped Mallory from her thoughts, she was getting tired of this.

"We can't tell that would ruin the...." Mallory searched for words, found none, and said something very clichéd "er... Surprise?"

"Oh okay," Esperenza seemed disappointed and turned toward the classroom. "I'll guess I'll wait and see..." Her behaviour confused Mallory before she realised just how much Esperenza cared for Jake and now knowing Jake's view and Esperenza not knowing made her feel she was letting her friend down.

"Mal... I want to go to the prom sign up board again," Selena mumbled and Mallory was shocked at this sudden mood change. Selena looked down at her clawed paws.

"Well okay.... Have you decided who to take?"

"Yeah..."

They walked over to the scroll and Mallory watched as Selena started to cry. Mallory, who cared deeply for the SeaWing, rushed to her friend. Why was she crying? Why the mood change.

"Sele, What's wrong?"

"W-who I want to take, s-she'll never a-accept m-me e-even I-if s-she's lesbian."

Mallory felt her heart skip a beat, Selena was lesbian? Who would've thought?

Could she be talking about me? Does she want to take ME?
