Jake's thoughts wondered as he walked out of History. He spotted Esperenza coming out of the classroom and he bolted. The dragoness looked at him and ran to keep up. "Jake," she said stiffly panting as she did so. "Why have been avoiding me? We're friends right?" Jake felt his heart sting a bit when she said 'friends'.

"Y-yeah," he stammered. Esperenza seemed to notice him stammer.

"Why are you stammering?" Esperenza hid it well but there was no mistake in recognizing the nervousness her voice held.

"N-no idea," he stammered again looking from left to right, not meeting Esperenza's gaze. "Anyway... We have biology next... Do you wanna... walk with me?" Esperenza's gaze widened and then narrowed in confusion like she had conflicted thoughts or something. Jake looked at his crush as she thought over the offer. Jake sighed when she replied with a simple 'Okay'. Jake smiled at her but it was a big goofy smile and she laughed.

"You're har-lari-ous," she said with a posh accent, mocking Harriet.

After awhile they reached the biology classroom, they were taught by a old wrinkled sea blue SeaWing, his name Mr. Newt. Jake looked at Newt. A pale ghostly green eye and blind green looked back at him. The gray muzzle nearly touching Jake's. The SeaWing's frill was drooped and the old dragon's tail sagged. When he spoke it was croaky and soft almost like he was losing his voice. "Welcome class," he croaked turning and walking stiffly towards the piece of wood placed on the cave wall. "This year I'll be retiring, but..... You'll have me for the first term." When the SeaWing got to the board his folded wings flopped to the ground, still and useless. "We need part-" he coughed "-ners for this year, so... Let's do that" The SeaWing moved slowly over to the piece of stone on his desk, and he engraved two names. "Mallory and Selena," Newt read. Jake saw Mallory freeze and Selena looked at her oddly. "N-next group," the SeaWing's speech wavered,"J-Jake and Esperenza." Jake saw Esperenza freeze and Jake felt his blood turn to ice.
