Chapter 27
Michael's POV
I'm kinda still reeling from the fact Connor's my boyfriend now. It's also kinda funny. We're literally that one vine. I think that's why he clearly wants to hide it from Jared. He doesn't want him to quote it I guess. But that's really besides the point.
I was on my way to Jeremy's house, as I had decided to tell him first. I know my mothers, they'll ask question after question, and probably ask stuff like: 'When's the wedding?' Meanwhile we've only literally just started dating, how the fuck do I know if we're gonna last that long? We could not, so marriage wouldn't happen in that case. I got into my car and started driving. I was humming along to a love song on the radio because I'm that gone apparently. It only happened days ago, but I'm still feeling sort of giddy about it. Connor, with his long, soft hair and adorable smile, my boyfriend. I wonder if Connor's gonna tell anyone today. I snapped out of my thoughts when I saw Jeremy's house. I parked on the curb and by the time I reached the door, Jeremy had already opened it, like he was expecting me.
"Hi dude, you seem happy," he teased, to which I just rolled my eyes. I'd told him about the 'hang out', I didn't exactly call it a date, but he'd probably figured it out. "Did something happen with Mr Connor Murphy?" I rolled my eyes again. Wow, he really had been hanging out with Jared, huh?
"I have a bone to pick with you, Jeremy," I said and Jeremy's smirk faded. "Did you have to spill about my gushing to Rich and Jake? That was fucking embarrassing!" Jeremy looked at me.
"I'm sorry, it kinda slipped out," he said. I just sighed and looked at the door behind him.
"Let's go inside." Jeremy nodded in agreement and stepped aside to let me in. "I want to tell you something," I said nonchalantly as we walked over toward Jeremy's room. Jeremy's smirk returned almost immediately like he had a sneaking suspicion about what I was about to tell him. We sat down on Jeremy's bed. I turned to face him and I smiled. "It's related to the date that happened a few days ago," I said simply.
"Ah, so it was a date," said Jeremy. "As opposed to the Á La Mode trip." He shrugged. I chuckled a bit.
"Actually... the Á La Mode thing was a date too, apparently," I said guiltily, fixing my glasses on my nose. "Connor's not good at asking people out so um.. yeah." Jeremy merely raised an eyebrow, smirking at me. "But on the topic of that, Connor's my boyfriend," my voice got a slightly dreamy tone to it. "But, he doesn't want Jared to know."
"Because of the meme?"
"Because of the meme." Jeremy chuckled a bit. "But I don't know, hiding it seems kinda fun. I know that's probably a horrible thing to say but, I kinda like the idea of not telling him just yet." Jeremy raised an eyebrow.
"Well, you heard it here first, folks! Mellphy is evil," Jeremy announced, waving around jazz hands. I blinked at Jeremy.
"Um, what?" Jeremy didn't answer and just looked at the TV.
"Want to play AOTD?" Well then.

Two hours later, I was back on campus. I wasn't really doing anything really. Just sort of walking around campus, thinking about Connor. "What's with the smile?" I looked up when I heard Jared's voice. I pushed down an overly happy smile to a simple one. I hoped it was believable, I'm not really the 'greatest' at acting. Mission Keep Relationship Secret from Jared Kleinman commence. I shrugged.
"Don't know, the weather's nice, why not enjoy it?" I said. Jared looked at me.
"So it's not Connor at all? I thought something must've happened because Connor seemed happier than usual." Fuck. Seems like both Connor and I are already failing.
"Oh no, nothing happened. And with that, why don't I just get over him, anyways? I mean, he doesn't like me, so why bother?" God, that does not sound like me at all. Usually I'd just suffer in silence until my feelings sort themselves out. Pathetic, I know. Talking to Jared and trying to hide it honestly felt like a secret boss battle, or someone you forgot to fight and then pop up randomly. "I should get going," I stated , turning to leave and leaving Jared just standing there as if my words affected him or something. Even if they hadn't been entirely true.
When I returned to Connor and I's room, Connor was nowhere in sight. I assumed he was in class and decided to busy myself by playing some video games. I was booting up Pokémon Snap when Connor arrived, looking tired. Though, he smiled when he saw me. "Hey Mikey." I smiled at him as he joined me on the couch and wrapped an arm around me.
"Hey Connie," I said back. "I was just about to play Pokémon Snap." I saw Connor's eyes light up slightly and I smirked. "So, when are you going to admit you like it?" Connor blinked.
"It doesn't... suck."
I just rolled my eyes playfully.
