Chapter 24
Connor's POV
I looked at the guy across from me and sighed. I was at Á La Mode again but this time by myself. Well, myself and Miguel. I'd told him everything, about Michael and how I must be a fucking idiot for not using the word date. I know I could've gone to Jared or Evan, but I don't want to deal with that asshole now anyways he probably would just be teasing me or whatever, I don't fucking know. Miguel was just looking at me as if processing everything I'd just spilled. "Wow," mused Miguel.
"I know we haven't seen each other in years after.... that, but... I don't really want to deal with that ass known as Jared Kleinman." I let out a sort of awkward chuckle. "He uh... he probably won't even give me any advice and just tease me about the fact I was in denial or some shit. And you know that I can't tell Michael because you know my whole problem is that we went on a date but I didn't call it a date and now I don't know what he thinks, and he's been acting strange and now I don't know wha-"
"Connor," Miguel said, with a slight chuckle. "Calm down, you're rambling." He seemed amused. "So, you like this guy and you asked him out?" I gazed at him blankly. That's literally what I just fucking told you. "But you didn't call it that?"
"M, that's literally what I just fucking told you. That's what I want help on?" Miguel blinked when I used his old nickname. He shook his head lightly though.
"Well, how is he acting strange?" Was all that he said, looking at his spoon. He was smiling slightly at me. "From what I saw on the date I kinda interrupted, sorry about that but the way, Michael seemed to like being with you. If that's anything?" I narrowed my eyes.
"That really doesn't help at all," I muttered. "And I don't know. He seems really fucking observant more often now? I don't fucking know. He seems to be like thinking over things more. Like if we brush shoulders he goes quiet. It's fucking strange. Like, three days ago I like, described himself to him, without saying his name, when he asked about who my crush is and he like started panicking, like he knew. I don't fucking know." Miguel straightened in his seat.
"Maybe try asking him out again? This time actually calling it a date and see how he reacts? I don't know." Miguel shrugged. I sighed.
"Well, this ended up being pretty useless," I groaned. "And I don't know Miguel, I've never been good at the romance stuff." I heard Miguel laugh.
"You can say that again," he said with a knowing look and I narrowed my eyes. I stood up. "And it wasn't totally useless. We talked for the first time in years, right?" I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I'll think of something but I should probably get going." I looked over at him. "But, gracias Miguel. Even if it wasn't too much help." Miguel gave me a smirk.
"No problem. Maybe one day I'll even be invited to the wedding of Mr and Mr Murphy-Mell, eh?" I glared at him as I felt my cheeks heat up.
"Shut up," I murmured before walking off to return to the dorm. Michael was playing the Legend of Zelda on the TV and I sat beside him. He paused it and smiled at me.
"Look who it is!" He joked and I laughed. I looked at the TV screen.
"Yes, it is I, the One and Only Connor Murphy!" I joked back, flipping my long hair over one shoulder and Michael burst out laughing. "What might the Great Michael Mell be doing?" Michael looked at the TV screen.
"Playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild." I watched him play. After a while, Link started losing a lot of health and it was like Michael had stopped playing. I looked over and saw that Michael was looking at me.
"Uh, Michael?" I looked at him. Michael then blinked at me and seemed to get out of his trance. That was fucking odd, why was he staring at me? I shook it from my head and started to think about what Miguel said. Just how the fuck I'm going to do that is another story.
"Yeah, Legend of Zelda," Michael said, looking back at the TV.
"Michael, are you okay?" I asked and he looked at me. He smiled.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I looked at the TV screen and watched it. "How was your day?" Michael asked. I shrugged.
"It was pretty normal to be honest. If normal includes your friends teasing you about you know who." I chuckled. "That's honestly annoying as shit but, other than that, yeah." Michael's eye twitched slightly and his smile seemed more forced.
"Tell me about it," Michael said in a tone I'd never heard him speak before. I gazed at him, and felt myself grow almost hopeful, I don't fucking know. I smiled.
"You're jealous..." Michael blinked. He paused the game and looked at me. He seemed confused.
"Jealous? I'm not jealous? Why would I be jealous?" I gazed at him. Maybe I will take Miguel's advice. Michael was looking at me. I didn't answer, just smiling. "You know," Michael commented, "when you talk about him, it's just so adorable." I felt myself heat up and I cleared my throat.
"Michael, can we take a walk around campus later?" The words left my mouth before I was aware of it. What a fucking weak way to say can I take you to the park, what the fuck was that, Connor Murphy?! God, I really am not good at asking people out Jesus Christ.
"Sure...?" Michael just seemed more confused. What a great fucking job I did. "We can. Where though?"
"It's a surprise." I then realized I didn't say 'date' again. Holy fuck, I'm useless. Maybe this date will be more like your traditional date as I know exactly where the date is going to be.
