Chapter 19

Michael's POV

So apparently I'm at the stage of crushing when you completely dream up scenarios. Oh my God, I really am gone, aren't I? Fucking hell. All this after a month. It's honestly kind of hilarious. I almost feel like I've kinda spedrun through this, but I guess some crushes are just like that, eh? I should probably just try to slow down. Thinking about it is doing nothing, plus Connor already likes someone, so there's that.

Oh, woe is me! My crush liking someone else! This is Jeremy in middle school all over again. Oh god. Is Michael Mell really that pathetic? I'm joking obviously, but still. Unlike the Jeremy situation though, Connor's been acting strange. Not a bad strange, a weird strange. He seems nervous? I guess? He blushes and stammers and stuff like that.

Oh wow, imagine if his crush did end up being me. I'd probably earn the achievement of being The Most Oblivious Person Alive or something. I mean, we are living together so.... I'd have to be super fucking oblivious to not notice, but I'm rambling.

I was at my mothers' house. It'd been a month so I'd decided I'd visit. No harm in that, right? I pulled up in the still familiar driveway and saw my mothers's two cars parked beside the garage. Once again, my bright red car could be seen for miles so, it didn't really surprise me when one of my mothers opened the front door before I'd even got out of the car. "Michael! It's nice to see you!" She waved from the door but hadn't moved so I got out of the car and then walked over where Mom immediately wrapped her arms around me. I rolled my eyes but hugged her back. Once the hug ended, Mom's facial expression immediately changed. She was now smirking with her hands on my shoulders and her tone transformed into a teasing one.

I think I know what she's gonna say next.

"You, Mikey Wikey, have a lot to talk about," she teased. Of course. Look, I love my moms and all but they do get particularly nosy. Especially when it comes to my love life or relationships in general. It got worse after 'The SQUIPcident'. God, I hate that word, why name the worst year of my high school life after that? The year where my best friend of twelve years fucking straight up abandoned me?!

I'm glad I don't have to deal with that fucking parasite any more.

I'm still a bit upset about that. Both the sad and angry kind.

"Michael?" Mom's teasing tone was gone in favour of concern. I merely shook my head.

"I'm fine. You said I have a lot to talk about? What exactly?" Mom's expression changed again. She merely chuckled evilly and let me inside. I'm not looking forward to this. There is zero chance she's not going to ask about Connor. Guess this is what I get for telling her everything. Just my luck, huh? Mom walked into the lounge where she was now talking to Mother, who was reading a book. Mother, while nosy, was more chill than Mom. It was like, Mom was this like, chaotic ball of energy and then Mother was the thing that kept her from exploding I guess? I don't really know how to describe it but yeah. Maybe something like Morality and Logic from that one YouTube series I only watched one episode of or something, but I digress.

"Love! Our Mikey came to visit," said Mom which caused Mother to put down her book. Mother then looked over at me and then she smiled and walked over. Now both Mom and Mother were looking at me expectantly. Did I mention they annoy me sometimes?

"Mikey, this is a wonderful surprise!" Said Mother with smile though, she shared a look with her wife. I chuckled a bit.

"Yeah, since it's been a month I decided to come visit," I explained, returning their smiles. Mom smiled wider and Mother nodded her head. I sat down on a couch and they moved closer. I was preparing myself for the onslaught of questions I was gonna get, I could feel it. Then, Mom opened her mouth.

"Soooo~," she kinda sounded like Jared, now that I think about it. "Someone here has some explaining to do." Her teasing tone was back and Mother was just listening for the moment. Thank God, Mother. I don't think I can handle two times the teasing I'm about to get. Plus the teasing I've already received. "A few days ago, you let it slip that things have been different between you and your roommate since the not-date-"

"It wasn't a date. It was totally platonic, I suggested it to get closer to him," I shrugged. "We hadn't really hung out so."

"I know, but that did sort of sound like a date." I beg to differ but okay. "Anyways, beside the point," she dismissed. Wow, I'm definitely getting interrogated by my moms right now, that's amusing. "What exactly is different?" I felt myself heat up and I swear I heard my mom squeal.

"I have a crush. On my roommate," I didn't hide it. "It kinda snuck up on me, to be honest." I laughed. "I didn't even notice! How exactly? I don't know, but now yeah." Mom looked like she'd just seen a puppy. "Uh, Mom? You good?"

"Our Mikey has a crush!" She said with a sigh and just stared blankly at her. Why is she practically fangirling? Mother? Help?! "I fucking knew!" She suddenly yelled, surprising everyone. "I knew it!" She smirked at me. "Does my future son-in-law have a name?" My face burned.

"MOM! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!" She merely smiled.

"I'm just teasing you~" she said in a sing-song tone.

"That won't happen either way, since he already likes someone else." I muttered. Mother saw this as an opportunity to butt in.

"How sure are you of that?" She asked simply. I looked at her.

"For one, he said it flippantly that he liked someone and two, we're living together so surely I'd pick up on it if it was me?" Mother sat next to me.

"You two living together... it doesn't necessarily mean you'd pick up on it. This guy could be trying really hard to not let you know or, he could not like you in that way at all. You won't know for certain unless you ask him. You won't know until you try. But... has he had any signs?"

"Well, he stammers sometimes, he blushes. He seems awkward after we do something intimate like accidentally cuddle or hug." Mother looked at Mom.

"You've cuddled? Accidentally?" Mom butted in. There was a nostalgic look in her eyes for a second. "How exactly did you manage that?"

"I couldn't get comfortable on the couch and then Con-I mean he like, blurted out that I could lean on him, so I did and then he kinda put his arm around me." I was blushing again, I could feel it. Mom was smirking again.

"So~! He does have a name! When do I get to meet my future son-in-law, hm?"

"MOM!" I yelped, causing her to chuckle. Mother came to my rescue.

"Who wants to play SingStar?" She suggested. I laughed to myself. That game was definitely not recent and though I did prefer retro, it was fun.

"Okay," Mom and I said in unison and then they went to set it up and I was left to think about what had just happened.

Was this just an excuse to write Michael's mothers? Maybe. Is this filler when this story doesn't really have a coherent plot in the first place? Maybe. Anyways hope you enjoy this chapter.
