I walked into science 5 minutes early the next day, wanting to catch up on my latest sci-fi novel before class started. I'd started reading it last night and I stayed up really late to read it. I was already a quarter of the way through. I pulled my book out of my bag and started reading the next chapter. 

'The Martian? Love that book.' A voice said next to me. I looked up. Nick was getting into a seat next to me.

'Oh, erm, hi.' I said. 

'Hiya.' He smiled. 'Where were we? Oh yes, catalysts.' 

'Erm, ok-ay.' I said awkwardly. 'You weren't serious when you said we should continue this topic were you? Only, class is about to start.'

'Nah, I'm just kidding.' He laughed. 'How was your evening?'

'Same as ever, what about yours?' I asked, not really in the mood for small talk.

'Yeah, it was cool.' He nodded. 

'Right class, I've received intelligence that some of us haven't even got started on our projects which are due in next month.' Mr Varner announced, glaring at someone at the back of the room, which I guessed as Joe or Daniel. 

'He sounds like a robot. "Received intelligence".' Nick snickered. 

I smiled slightly. 'And have you met many robots on your travels?'

'Nope, but I hope to, sometime in the future.' He said. 

'Good luck.' I answered, humouring him. 

'... So I want you all to carry on with your projects this lesson.' Mr Varner ordered. Everyone but me and Nick moved towards the computers. 

'I've finished mine.' Nick shrugged.

'I left my memory stick at home, so there isn't much I can do about that.' I replied. 

'Hey K!' Joe and Daniel suddenly appeared at our table. They stood opposite us, on the other side of the table. 'Or should I call you that?'

'What?' I asked, not bothering with their bullshit today.

'Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?' Daniel asked. 'You should be working, not sat here socialising!' 

'I've left my memory stick at home, so there's not much I can do about that is there?' I glared at him. 

'Hi Nick.' Daniel grinned. 'When did you two meet then?'

'Yesterday.' Nick said.

'Yes, he made me drop my books.' I glared at Nick.

'Hey, I've said I'm sorry!' Nick said, hands up in defence.

'So you should be.' I teased. I noticed Joe giving us a weird look. I frowned in confusion, but he just shook his head.

Mr Varner came over. 'Miss Calvin, Mr Clarke, Mr King and Mr Hu, why aren't we working?' He asked. 

'I've finished my project Mr Varner, I'll hand it in tomorrow morning.' Nick volunteered. 

'Thank you Mr Clarke. Miss Calvin?' He turned to me.

'I'm sorry sir, I've left my memory stick at home, but I'm almost done with my project, so you'll have it before the deadline, I promise.' I apologised. 

'Very well Katherine. You're a good student so I'll let you off this once.' He nodded and turned to Daniel and Joe. 'As for you two, I think you'd better get started on the project, don't you think?'

'Sorry sir, yes sir.' Joe muttered, pulling Daniel over to the computers with him. 

Once they were gone, Nick turned to me. 'Wanna sit with me at lunch?'

'Erm, okay.' I nodded hesitantly. 'Is it alright if Joe and Daniel join us? They're my two best friends.'

'Yeah of course it is.' He agreed. 'I am curious though. What is an anti-social nerd like you, hanging out with a couple of rebellious kids like Daniel and Joe?'

'We met at an after school club.' I explained. 'You know the homework club in the library after school? Well I was there, because I was putting in some extra study for business, and Daniel and Joe happened to be there because their parents were forcing them to do extra study if they wanted to come back the next year. I was struggling with business, so Daniel helped me out as he's fantastic at business. And we all started hanging out after that. Plus, I help them both with science as they're basically useless at it.' 

'Oh right, I see.' He nodded. 

'K, can you please help me come with a subject for my project pleeeaaase?' Joe called across the room. 

'See what I mean?' I shook my head as I went over to them.

The four of us (Me, Nick, Daniel and Joe) walked to the canteen together after class. 

'Katherine!!' Skylar squealed, spotting me. Skylar is Daniel's twin sister. I met her when I went to Daniel's house for the first time and we bonded instantly. She's really into makeup and boys though and doesn't shut up about her latest boyfriend(s). 

'Hey Sky.' I smiled. 'You coming to sit with us?'

'Sure, okay.' She beamed. Sky is easily pleased. 

We got to a table in the corner of the room and Sky sat opposite me. Joe sat on my right and Nick and Daniel had gone to buy some food.

Daniel rejoined us from getting a drink. 'Oh, really Sky?' He complained. 'You'll cramp my style.' He sat on the seat to my left. 

'Oh please, bro, you're cramping your own style, never mind me!' She scoffed. 

'Shut the fuck up.' He glared at her.

'Hmm... No.' She grinned. 

I shook my head in amusement and pulled out my Mars bar Duo. I've been looking forward to this double chocolate goodness all day and it was the only thing that kept me from losing my patience with Daniel during science. Who doesn't like chocolate? I swear they put some kind of drugs in this stuff because I am seriously hooked on it. 

I took the first small bar and took a bite. 

I. Love. Mars. Bars.

Nick came over after getting food and sat down next to Skylar. 'Who's cramping who's style?'

Joe starts. 'Sky is apparently-'

'DON'T!' Daniel yelled. 

I roll my eyes. Honestly, who has the time for troubles when you have chocolate?

'Really guys. It's all cool, as long as you have cho-' I'm interrupted so quickly that I gasp out loud. 

Daniel just reached his hand out, snatched up the other half of my Mars bar and SHOVED IT IN HIS MOUTH.

'You- you- you-...' I stuttered, unable to even comprehend such a heinous act of blasphemy.

Daniel carried on as if he didn't just steal the one thing bringing me joy, finishing the chocolate in 2 bites. 'Oh, Sky? Yeah, she's totally cramping my style, not me. Wow K, I forgot how awesome Mars Bars are.' 

'But -- food -- style -- MY CHOCOLATE!'

'Use your big girl words Katherine.' Nick grinned. 

If looks could kill, Nick would be on the floor right now.

'YOU JUST ATE MY ONLY JOY I LIFE!! DON'T YOU KNOW NEVER TO TAKE CHOCOLATE FROM A GIRL??!' I finally exploded. 

'Especially if she's PMSing.' Joe muttered. 

Sky whacked him on the back of his head. Thanks girl. 

I narrowed my eyes at Daniel who's looking increasingly more worried. 

He held up his hands. 'Woah, retract the claws K-bear, I didn't know your chocolate was sacred. I'll take you out for ice-cream after school today to make up for it. My treat. They have Mars bar flavour!' 

Stupid boys. 'If they don't have Mars bar flavour, you're dead.' 

'They will.' He promised. 

'Just for future reference, take my chocolate, I take your life.' 

Nick laughed.
