Chapter Six
Caspian's POV
I sat out on a ledge, staring off into the distance. Then, Doctor Cornelius came out, sitting beside me.
"Why did you never tell me Miraz killed my father?" He sighed.
"My mother was a Black Dwarf from the north. I couldn't step out of line, otherwise he'd have a reason to kill me." I nodded slowly, and he placed a hand on my arm.
"I know you are not happy with the High King, but he reacted as any young man who is in love would. And it does not take a genius to see that Sierra is also in love with him." I nodded, staring off at the rising sun. I thought I might've felt something for her, but that was not possible. I did, however, have a strange feeling towards Queen Susan. I sighed quietly, staring off into the distance. My main focus had to be Miraz. I could worry about love later.
Sierra's POV
For some reason, I felt a weight lifted after telling Peter about my son, and about what Jadis had done. I ran towards the table, and then heard voices. I slowed, and then stopped, hearing Peter and Lucy.
"You're lucky, you know." He said quietly, and Lucy sat beside him.
"Why?" She looked at him, and he sighed quietly.
"Because....you've seen him. It's not that I don't believe in him, or that I don't trust Sierra, because I do. It's just.....I wish he would show me what I'm supposed to do. I wish he would prove that he's here." I smiled sadly. I wasn't surprised he had doubts. I had them, even with him being my father.
"Maybe we're the ones who need to prove ourselves to him." Lucy said, and I went in.
"We probably do. And he knows what he's doing. You're not the only one who's had doubts. But right now, you need to come see this." We ran outside, and Peter froze at the sight of Miraz's men, all lined up at the edge of the woods. About twenty minutes later, we met in a small room, trying to plan out what to do.
"Look, I can get back to Cair Paravel and get more armor and weapons, including yours and Edmund's. But as long as they're here, we're trapped. Honestly, I don't know where to go. We'll run out of food, too." One squirrel cocked his head.
"We could collect nuts?" Reepicheep rolled his eyes, and turned to the squirrel.
"Yes, and throw them at the Telmarines! Shut up." She squirrel shrunk back, and I looked down. Peter gently put his hand over mine, rubbing gently.
"We have to send Lucy for my father. There's no other choice." Trumpkin glared at me.
"You want to send a little girl into the darkest part of the woods? Alone?!" Susan spoke up.
"She won't be alone." Peter sighed.
"We just have to hold them off until they get back. I don't know how we can, though." Then, Caspian spoke up.
"If I may? As the new King, Miraz is subject to traditions and wishes of the people. There is one such tradition that may buy us some time." I looked up at him, smiling slightly.
"A duel?" He stared at me, slightly shocked.
"How....how did you know?" I chuckled, going over and getting a quill, ink, and parchment.
"I've been around here long enough to know your traditions and customs, especially when it comes to fighting." Suddenly, two fauns and a centaur came in, nearly dragging a clearly terrified young girl.
"Your majesties, we found her near the edge of the woods." I looked up, startled. Her brown eyes were wide with fear, her dark brown hair matted and dirty, and she was nearly skin and bones.
"What's your name?" She looked up at me, and I saw something else. There was a strange calmness about her.
"C...Cahira. I ran away from Miraz's camp. I promise, I'm not here to spy. I am seeking refuge. Please. I mean you no harm." I watched her silently for a minute and then nodded. She simply showed signs of terror. That was another thing I was able to do. I could tell if a person's intentions were true or not.
"Release her. She speaks the truth. And get her something to eat." One of the fauns nodded, hurrying off. The other cut the ropes around her wrists, and the first returned with bread, cheese, and an apple. She was brought out with the other women here, and we finished getting things ready for the duel. Then, came the biggest question.
"But who's going to fight Miraz?" Lucy asked, and I swallowed.
"I'll do it." Peter and I said at the exact same time. We looked at each other, and I mentally slapped myself.
"Caspian definitely shouldn't. Miraz taught him, and will probably be able to anticipate every move he makes." Then, Peter spoke up again.
"And neither should you, Sierra. He can't kill you, so if you can't kill him....." I shook my head slowly.
"I can. I can only die in battle, remember? He could kill me." Then Caspian spoke up.
"Which is all the more reason you shouldn't fight him. If Miraz wins, they will still attack us. We will need you for that." I weighed the options in my mind, and nodded.
"Alright. Peter will fight Miraz. But I will be beside the ring, making sure there's no foul play." Peter nodded, writing something down on the parchment.
"That's settled, then. Edmund, Sierra, Glenstorm, and the bear will watch the ring, making sure there's no foul play. And I'll duel him. Edmund, you, Glenstorm, the giant, and Sierra will take this to Miraz. And Sierra?" I looked over at him, and he had a small smirk on his face.
"Try not to attack him while you're talking with him." I smiled, twirling my sword him my hand before sheathing it.
"I'll do my best."
