Two (Alexandra)
"Are you kidding me?" Alex yelled at her phone. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean," the deep voice came from the phone. "I can't be with you anymore, Al. It's not you, it's me. I just don't feel like we can continue. I'm sorry."
Alex sighed as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Why not?" Her voice was quiet, weak and lacked the confidence she wished it had.
Because you're a failure at life, Alex.
Because you quit school to persue a singing career.
Because I can't look after a twenty-five year old that acts like a frickin' baby!
Because I never loved you.
Because I only wanted a sliver of your brother's fame.
"Because I found someone else."
Alex sighed, knowing exactly what he meant:
Because you aren't good enough. Because you'll never be good enough.
A tear rolled down her cheek. She knew she wasn't good enough, she knew she would never be good enough, she knew she'd be a disappointment for the rest of her life. She knew it all too well.
But she hated hearing it from someone else.
She hated hearing it from him.
"I see," she uttered, using all of her remaining strength. "I hope you're happy with her. Goodbye Travis."
She hung up.
Goodbye, Alex. I can't believe I finally got rid of you...
He was gone.
He was her everything.
And now he's gone.
Because she wasn't good enough.
Because she'll never be good enough.
Rain poured from the skies, adding on to Alex's already perfect day (note sarcasm). But she didn't run like everyone else, she didn't try to find shelter.
Her whole life was a thunderstorm. A bit of rain wasn't going to faze her. Mother nature was going to have to try a lot harder if she wanted to ruin her.
And as if on cue, the rain began to fall harder, faster, soaking Alex in everywhere it could.
But Alex wasn't pleased yet. She wanted to drown her thoughts, drown herself but life wouldn't let her die. She had already tried enough times before she realised there was no point.
She was life's doll and he was having to much fun to let her go.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
She looked at the number, answered it and placed the device at her ear.
"Hello?" Her voice was back to it's normal blunt tone.
It wasn't that she wanted to be blunt, it's just that her lifetime was full of disappointments and she had given up when it came to caring.
"Hey," Mark replied, his tone the polar opposite of hers. "How's life treating you?"
"Like I just ran over his dog."
Mark sighed.
"What's up?"
"Travis and I broke up. He found someone else."
Mark was quiet for a second.
"Oh...want to come over to my house? I stocked up on ice cream, sad romance movies and tissues after last time."
Alex's smile was barely visible but that was the biggest a genuine smile from her got.
"I'll be there in a second."
She was thankful for Mark, she really was. He was the only person on earth that never looked down on her, the only person that treated her like she actually was good enough.
And that's why she felt like she didn't deserve him.
He was always the one to pick her up again after one of life's hardest hits. He was the one who was always there.
But Alex couldn't help feeling like a burden to him. Because after all, she was a burden to herself as well.
***
"Thanks, Mark," Alex uttered once she had completelt drowned her sorrow in ice cream and finished watching the movies.
"You're welcome," he responded with his usual charming smile. "Remember, I'm always here when you need me."
Alex forced a smile.
"I know...so thanks for that too. Thanks for actually dealing with me and being my friend. I bet it must be tiring."
"It really isn't. Just stop thinking of yourself as a bother."
"How can I not? I'm a bother to everyone. Why do you think they all left me?"
"You're not the one in the wrong, Alex. They are."
***
His words echoed in her head as she neared the deeper parts of the icy river.
'You're not the one in the wrong, Alex. They are.'
Alex sighed.
"Then why do you I feel like I am? Why does it feel like I just chase them away all the time? Why?"
Because you are in the wrong.
Because you do chase them away.
Because you are a burden to both them and yourself.
Because you're a failure at life...always have been, always will be.
And that's what hurts the most.
With that, Alex submerged herself into the freezing cold water. She screamed at the odd sensation of the ice burning her mainly unclothed skin but the sound was muffled by the water.
She allowed herself to swallow some of the water, the icy water burned her insides but that was the least of her worries.
She was approaching death and couldn't be happier.
You're a failure at life, Alex. But maybe you can try succeeding at death.
No.
In fact, it didn't come too much of a surprise to Alex, she was used to life's tricks now. He would give her hope only for her to realise it was false.
When she felt arms wrap around her waist and drag her out of the river, Alex couldn't help but scream.
"Why? Why did you have to pull me out? Just let me die in peace, for once! Please, Mark."
But it wasn't Mark, in fact, it was a stranger.
"What the heck? Who are you? Let go of me! Who are you?"
He was quiet so Alex yelled louder.
The stranger finally placed her down on the river bank.
"What the heck are you doing?" He asked her, with a shake of his head.
"What did it look like I was doing?" She shouted, angry that he had saved her.
"Do you seriously want to kill yourself?"
"Yes, you have no idea how terrible my life is!"
"Okay, fine I get it: you're an orphan, your brother intentionally went to a different country to get away from you and your boyfriend broke up with you today. I understand things are bad but is it worth giving everything you have, even the chance of things getting better, behind?"
Alex's jaw dropped.
"How did you know that?" She asked, beginning to get creeped out by the boy in front of her.
The boy simply smirked at her.
"I know a lot more about you, Alexandra Williams... probably more than you know yourself."
Alex huffed.
"Impossible! No one knows that much."
And his smirk grew bigger.
"You were born on the twenty-fifth of July in Durbyway Hospital. At first, your father wanted to give you away. He hated you. But your mother wasn't going to give you up after all the pain she went through to get you out of her womb -- a much different scenario than with your brother, which was simple, easy and much less painful. You were the polar opposite of your brother who was seemingly perfect and angelic. You were a lot of trouble and rebellious. When you were ten-"
"Stop!" Alex shouted, not wanting to hear more of her tragic life. "Who are you anyway? Are you someone I should know?"
He smiled.
"I'm Hyunjin. And no, I'm not someone you should know...at least not yet...I want to take you somewhere, follow me."
"You're a stranger," Alex uttered. "No, a stalker...whatever you are. Why would I trust you? You could rape me for all I know!"
He sighed.
"Must I carry you to our destination?"
Alex huffed before following him.
Their destination was in a forest. And Alex wasn't sure what to think anymore. She didn't trust this stranger but once she hesitated to follow him and once then he kept a firm grip over her wrist.
Once Alex was sure they were lost, Hyunjin handed her a small bottle with some clear gel-like liquid in it.
"Drink it," he instructed her to do but she shook her head.
"What exactly is this? And what is it supposed to do to me?"
Hyunjin rolled his eyes.
"Can you stop thinking I'm going to rape you? I'm not! The potion is to make you relax and not worry about your life here."
Alex cocked an eyebrow.
"So does I have marijuana or something? Because I don't do drugs."
"Just drink it!"
Alex cowered at his sudden yell before gulping down the liquid.
It tasted like toothpaste, mouthwash and all of her least favourite medicines mixed together. She wanted to spit it out but Hyunjin forced her to drink it.
It wasn't long until her vision began to blur and become dimmer.
"Hey! What's wrong with my vision?"
Hyunjin didn't reply, he just grabbed her hand again and dragged her to his final destination.
"Where are you taking me?" She screamed as he made her lie down amongst the leaves that had fallen off trees.
At this point her vision was completely black and she felt herself falling in and out of consciousness.
"Wonderland," was the last thing she heard Hyunjin say before she fell unconscious.
This chapter is very boring but I just wanted to thank you guys for all the support you gave this story already.
Also, the rest of this story will be in Alexandra's point of view so yeah...
