Twenty-two
Lilacs, daisies, tulips, roses and lilies decorated the large hall. Red and white cloth drapped down the walls and scented candles bordered the room.
At the back of the hall, the ground was raised and at the very back was a row of thrones, one for each princess, prince, king or queen from both families. There were two specific thrones though which were much larger and fancier than the rest. Everyone could tell they were for the bride and groom from the first sight.
"That is where the two families will sit," the King's main servant announced. "The bride and groom sit in the middle, their parents on either side."
"Marvellous work, and how about the clothing and make-up?" The King asked, glancing at the cats in charge of it.
"I was thinking the bride and groom would wear white while the rest wear red. It's a mix of both cultures while at the same time making the bride and groom stand out. The princes and princesses' outfits will represent a doll while the kings and queens represent a lion. The bride and groom while represent a white goose."
"I don't think so," the First Queen objected. "I'm not going to have Hyuna and I dress like everyone else. Do we look as irrelevant as these peasants? I don't think so. I say we wear white, and represent geese."
"That's for the bride and groom though, Your Highness," the cat stated.
"So? We are the bride's family. We must stand out."
"If that's the case, Your Highness, the other family should be recognised as well."
"What? No way! Everyone knows the bride's family are the real stars of the show! Tell her, Eunbyul."
"I mean, it wouldn't hurt to dress the same for a night..." Eunbyul spoke.
"What? Are you bonkers? You've finally lost it, haven't you?" Her mother exclaimed.
"Come on, Mother. It's my wedding day for goodness' sake!"
"Your point is?"
"My point is you already had yours and soon Hyuna will her own as well, don't use my wedding as an excuse to re-live your own! And besides, if we're talking about family, why did you not include Chan? Why is he any less than Hyuna or I?"
"Chan is-"
"Your son. Stop treating him like a burden!"
"Eunbyul," her mother's stern vice echoed around the hall. "I will not tolerate your attitude."
"Attitude? Oh, please I'm being nice compared to you. Now, could you just be quiet as we continue with the rest of this?"
With a scoff, her mother finally gave in, earning a smile from Eunbyul. She was aware of all the whispers going around by all the members of the royal family and the servants and it satisfied her. Sometimes, her mother really needed to be put in her place.
"Your Highness, the throne you called for has arrived," one of the servants approached Eunbyul and she couldn't help but smile.
"Perfect, bring it down," she responded before a team of dogs came in sight holding it.
Gasps echoed around the room and Eunbyul was aware of why. The throne brought back many regrettable memories, all of which happened about five years ago.
"Is that-" Jisung started.
"Hyunjin's throne," Eunbyul completed the sentence.
"Why is it here?" Minho questioned.
"Oh right, I never told you guys. I invited Hyunjin to the wedding."
Silence fell across the hall before Hana asked the question on everyone's mind.
"He's alive?"
Eunbyul chuckled but soon learnt that she wasn't kidding, no one was. That's when she realised she was the only one in the room who had always known of Hyunjin's whereabouts. To everyone else he had died along with his father only his body was never found.
"Of course he is! After his father's death he became depressed and ran away. I found him in a village the other day and invited him," she lied but that was what Eunbyul was best at so she wasn't even surprised when everyone seemed to believe it.
"How did he look?" Jiyeon questioned, leaning closer to the First Princess. Changbin rolled his eyes before pulling his sister back.
"Calm down, Jiyeon," Changbin teased. "Not like you're going to marry him or anything."
"What?" Jiyeon's cheeks turned red. "I wasn't thinking of that."
"Oh don't even lie," Hana chuckled. "We all know Hyunjin was a beautiful sight."
"Ew, gross!" Eunbyul chuckled. "I didn't invite him for you girls to fantasise over! I invited him so I could see him for the last time before I have to leave. Who knows? Maybe he might decide to stay and claim his throne."
"I hope he does," Yeji blurted. "I mean, his father was the best King ever! Maybe he'll be the same."
"I'll just pretend I didn't hear that," the King commented with a laugh before leaving the room to attend to more important matters.
"I bet he would be," Minjung smiled. "And besides, you know the drill, he'll have to take one of us princesses as his first wife."
"Don't even act like you have a chance!" Hana chuckled.
"Oh and I suppose you do?" Jiyeon retorted.
Laughter filled the hall as all the princesses joked about marrying Hyunjin, all except one.
"Would you stop already?" Hyuna rolled her eyes. "Hyunjin made a decision when his father died. He can't just come back and change it all! The king we have now is fair and if you don't like that then leave!"
With that, the Fifth Princess stomped out of the room. Everyone turned to look at Eunbyul who simply rolled her eyes.
"You know, Hyuna. All she wants is a place at the throne."
IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ):
Hello! So, just a heads-up, this story will end in a few chapters but don't worry, it's a trilogy, remember? I've studied enough for all my exams this week so I think I'll have enough time to update this week but I need to ask you something important: do you want me to update the rest of the chapters this week? Because I'm done all of them and have already started the second book but I feel like it may not start until the week before June or in June.
