The Music Unbridled

We tested the waters
and rode the wind
Where the carefree carnival
spirit begins

At the edge of the places
we always ran
And the start of the races
when they let go of our hands

The cradle became
the round-up instead
When we spun through the air
And felt out of our heads

For the first time we truly
found the taste of it all
In an elephant's ear
and a deep-fried corn dog

This was the decadence
of an adolescent dream
Free to explore
and free just to be

our contraband was
the candy we bought
and the music unbridled
and a large soda pop

our laughter so loud
and only drowned out
by the mechanical rides
and the festival crowds

Here was the night
we first felt the breeze
and the itch to escape
to our own memories
