Allowed to Breathe

Oh for the world that went before
It's not that world any more
Men are held in their cage
The prison of a self centered age

All minds collect to condemn
yet nobody knows the spirit within
The scar of one is the hammer of all;
few are left to see beyond the wall

Tall and dark, built not with hands
but by the scorn in the heart of man
Here they keep reservations out
No room for mercy or better doubts

No real soul can make it through
no ears open for those only accused
Just a quick and biting reply
No understanding for you or I

Why is love lying dead in the street?
No inner crying is allowed to breathe
No open arms and hearts beside
When did compassion curl up to die?
