:: Chapter Twenty-Seven ::

"Keefe," Sophie called, "don't look I have wedding stuff you're not allowed to see!"

"That's like you're asking me to look," he replied, making her roll her eyes. She had decided to move her wedding dress to their apartment, but she could already feel herself regretting it as she had to keep looking over her shoulder every few seconds to make she he wasn't there.

Once she had successfully hidden it away she walked over their their room and informed him that they had to stop by their parents house within the next hour. "Why?" he asked when she told him.

"My mom and Della slaved away over the stove all day to make food for us to try. They're determined to make all the food for the wedding," Sophie told him with a smile. "Syden was happy with the decision since it means she won't have to try and track someone down to do it."

"Do you think we'll get to try some human food?" Keefe asked. "Did you ask them about it? I've always wanted to try some of that."

"I didn't ask but I guess we can mention that to them later," she replied sitting down on the bed. "I just need at least an hour nap. After work today I was out shopping with the girls for way too long getting wedding stuff."

"I figured you were doing something considering you came in shouting about wedding stuff I couldn't see. Was it your wedding dress, although I thought you bought that like a month or two ago?"

She nodded before laying down, throwing her face into her pillow. "Yeah," she said, her voice muffled. "I originally left it at the store but we decided to move it back here. Please don't go looking for it, it's a human superstition." She shooed him away so she could take her nap. A few hours later she escaped from their room rejuvenated.

"Hey there sleeping beauty," Keefe greeted and she rolled her eyes. "Ready to go?"

She sighed. "Yeah, but let me go brush my hair first. It probably looks like a rats nest."

"I wouldn't use those words exactly, although I do say that it might help just a little." He laughed as she threw a pillow from the couch at him before disappearing to the bathroom. A little while later she returned and raced him to the leapmaster.

When they entered her parent's house she immediately was attacked with the scent of what seemed like hundreds of different foods hitting her nose. "Whoa, you guys went all out," she greeted her mother as well as Della, who were placing a bunch of different plates on the table.

"We added a few human dishes to mix things up," Della told them as they took seats at the table. "It was kind of hard to find them without meat until Dex searched some vegan meals for us."

"Yeah, humans don't care too hard about the avoiding killing animals for food," Sophie said.

"Well, let's see if you like what we've made."

"This is a lot, I don't think we'll be eating all of this. What are you going to do with all the leftovers?" Sophie stared at all the food in front of them.

"My daughter and son will be well fed," Della explained, laughing. "I think they'll appreciate the food, I already told them they'd be getting a lot of leftovers."

"Yeah, we could assume you wouldn't eat it all but making it was lots of fun," Edaline added, placing the last dish on the table. "How do you guys want to get through this?"

"Let's hit each individually," Sophie said. "Want to start with appetizers and word our way down?"

"That sounds alright. We have a human option and then a few elvin options for appetizers. I'm not sure how much people you guys are inviting so I'm not sure how much food you'll need." Della moved to grab a few plates placed on the right side of the table, in front of Keefe. "Try this one first," she handed them a plate with round orange disks. "It's one of my personal favorites."

Sophie wasn't sure what flavor she was expecting when she'd take a bite, but it definitely wasn't spice that hit her tongue. "I didn't realize it'd be spicy," she said when she accidentally let out a cough. "It's really good, although can I get some water?" Edaline quickly handed her a glass and she took a sip. "What do you think" She turned to Keefe who was helping himself to another one.

"It's good," he said, the food still in his mouth.

"You're disgusting," she said with a laugh before a knock sounded at the door.

"Come in!" Edaline shouted and Syden made her way through. "Hey sweetie, you're just on time. Do you want to try one?"

Syden took an orange disk and moaned at the flavor. "I definitely recommend you guys make this for the day."

"We both loved it," Sophie informed her. "Do you have a notebook or something where you can write which ones we like or dislike?"

Syden nodded and took a pen and notebook out from the bag she had taken with her. "I'm all prepared, sorry I was a little late though. I'm coming straight from a date and didn't realize we went over time."

"How was your date?" Sophie asked before taking a sip of her water.

"It was really great," Syden replied. "Now, what are these called?" Edaline gave her a reply and she quickly scribbled the name of the appetizer and put a check mark next to it. "Is that all you guys tried before I got here?"

"Yep," Keefe stated. "We've still got all of this to go," he gestured to the large table filled with food.

"That's enough to feed an army, definitely," Syden said with widened eyes, staring at the two grinning women that made the food. "You really went all out."

"Well, the two are only getting married once," Edaline replied before quickly adding an, "I hope."

"That's not negative at all," Sophie snorted, looking to the next plate of food. "Is that an appetizer?"

"Yes, that's the human one actually," Edaline said, a proud smile on her face. "Dex said it was called a spring roll?"

"I never realized those were vegan," Sophie murmured, looking at the food. "I'm excited, though. They definitely taste really good."

"Well, let's dig in," Edaline replied, grinning as she took one. "We didn't try these before giving them to you, we wanted to experience it with you here."

Sophie smiled after taking a bite from her spring roll, excited at the familiar taste entering her mouth. It had been practically a decade since she tried human food, and Chinese food was definitely high on her list of favorites before moving to the Elvin world.

"This is really different from the spicy disks from earlier," she told them. "So it's good variety if someone prefers sweet over spicy."

"I agree," Keefe echoed. "Definitely a positive. Besides, it's like going back into Sophie's roots."

She nodded. "Although, as an American my roots were more cheeseburgers and fried chicken. Except, obviously those are meat so you guys wouldn't eat all of that."

They continued on eating all the other foods, some receiving negatives but most receiving positives. "We might have to invite more people to our wedding simply because of how much food there is," Keefe joked after they finished entrees and were moving onto desserts.

"We really did make a lot, didn't we," Edaline commented, passing them a plate of mallowmelt. "I knew we'd definitely be making this anyways but figured you'd appreciate eating it."

Sophie grinned, eyeing the plate of custard bursts right next to it. "Mom, you really are the best."

"What am I? Chopped liver?"

"You too, Della. Both of you are. Seriously, you guys didn't have to go through all this trouble." She grinned at them.

"Well, we wanted to," Edaline replied, smiling. "Now, eat up the desserts. I also got Dex to tell me a little more about human traditions and was wondering what kind of cake you would like?"

"Oh, I hadn't even though about that," Sophie said, frowning. "I guess vanilla would be nice?" She looked to Keefe. "You seem like a guy who would like chocolate, though."

"I'll like anything," he replied. "Just go with what you want, cake is cake."

"You've never even had cake," Sophie replied, rolling her eyes.

"I've heard that it's like some holy grail to humans, though. So I'll still love it," he replied. "Seriously, don't worry about me. If I don't like it, there's already too much food anyways."

"You sure?" She rose an eyebrow.

"Completely," he confirmed.

"Okay," she said before turning back to her mother. "I guess we'll take vanilla."

"How many tiers? Does three sound good enough for you? Maybe we should make it four."

"Three is more than enough," Sophie stated. "Everyone will be full by the time cake comes around with all this stuff to fill them up." She gestured to the table.

Syden quickly scribbled in her notebook. "Is there anything else they need to try before we're done with the tasting?"

"Nope, after the cake we're done," Della stated. before turning to Edaline. "I'll have to come by again so we can try out making the cake."

"We're all going to get diabetes," Sophie joked, sighing dramatically.
