Chapter Twenty-Five
Sophie and Keefe sat on the couch, a huge binder sitting in front of them. They were flipping through the pages until finally Keefe stated, "I don't know, I think we should get married somewhere special to us."
She looked to their planner. "Is that possible?"
Immediately Syden jumped in her seat. "Oh! That's more than possible, actually. Is there any place that's specifically important to you guys? I promise to try and make anything work and or die trying."
Sophie laughed and locked eyes with Keefe. "There's only so many places we can get married, Keefe. What do you have in mind?"
He thought about it for a moment. "Do you think your parents would mind if we got married in Havenfield?"
"Havenfield?" Sophie frowned. "Why do you want to get married in Havenfield?"
"It's where we got together and I'm pretty sure we lowkey had a first date there." He grinned. "It has beautiful scenery and just imagine how special it would be to get married under Calla's tree."
Sophie thought about it before turning to Syden. "You've been to Havenfield, what do you think?"
Syden took the binder off the table between them and replaced it with a notebooks and pen from her bag. She started to draw and label things, but she was moving so fast Sophie found it hard to try and see what she was doing. Once she was done, Sophie realized that personality wasn't the only thing Syden and Keefe had in common. Syden was an amazing artist.
"Wow," was all Sophie said as she looked at the picture Syden had drawn.
"Okay, so I labeled everything to make it easier. But, obviously this is amazing scenery as Keefe stated so we can definitely work with that. You could fit plenty of chairs here," she pointed to in front of the tree, "but I would say don't invite too many people or else you might have standing guests, which is a big no if you want guests to enjoy themselves." She sat back and Sophie could tell she was thinking very carefully. "Maybe eighty people? Would that be alright with you both? I know it's a small number."
"I mean, we already started writing a list of wedding guests and so far we only have sixty anyways," Keefe replied.
"Small weddings are always so beautiful, anyways!"
"You've been to a wedding?" Sophie questioned, smiling. Personally the only wedding she had been to was Wylie's.
"An old friend from Foxfire recently got married," Syden replied. "But that was a bigger wedding. My aunt got married when I was much younger and her wedding was really small and beautiful. I have a photographic memory so I still can picture it even though I was tiny."
"Wait, you too?" Keefe grinned. "Both Sophie and I have photographic memories!"
"Honestly, considering how much he used to hate you, Tam sure is dating you," Sophie told Keefe, laughing.
"Wait, hate you? I thought all of you guys were best friends?" Syden was confused.
"Oh, now we're all best friends. But when Tam and Linh first joined our friend group Keefe was going through a lot and pretty much hated them and with Tam the feeling was mutual. Obviously you know Tam's gift, and Keefe refused to let him do a reading."
"I still refuse, actually," Keefe stated, though there was a smile on his face as he said it, showing how the animosity between him and Tam was gone.
"Speaking of Tam, how is your relationship?" Sophie sat up, ready to engage in conversation. They had been spending hours working over wedding deals and it felt like a nice break.
"Just as amazing as when it started," Syden replied. "We've been together for so long now, it's weird."
Sophie put a finger up, as if pointing. "Wait! You guys got together even before Keefe and I did, right?"
"Yeah, maybe like two or three days though. Not that much before. But we're in a different stage than you guys, anyways. While we've been together longer, you guys have known each other longer. While you guys already know all you need to know, Tam and I are still discovering."
"That's a neat way to look at it," Sophie agreed, grinning.
"Anyways, back to planning." Syden shook her head to herself. "How traditional do you guys want the ceremony to be? And would you like any human traditions sprinkled in considering your roots, Sophie?"
"I was thinking about that, actually." Sophie frowned. "I obviously already went with some more human things. Like my bridesmaids and best men and flower girl and ring bearer. I thought those were normal for you guys, as well. But I've learned recently it's not."
"But it is a good idea," Keefe interrupted, smiling. "And I would be open to some human traditions. It seems fun."
"But for your wedding?" Sophie looked at him. "You wouldn't mind not having a normal wedding?"
"Of course not," he said with a laugh. "Foster, I'm marrying you, I signed up for not normal."
She sighed. "Okay, well in that case there are some pre-wedding things I want to deal with. Like a bachelorette party and the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
Syden wrote what she was saying down. "You'll have to tell me what this all means so I can plan it all."
"A bachelorette party is basically the night before the wedding or close to the wedding I get together with my bridesmaids and we have a lot of fun before the big day. It's basically my excuse to get together with the girls." She grinned. "And basically the other thing is on your wedding it's supposed to be good luck to be wearing something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Or to just now own things like that. I think I want my something new to just be my dress, and I already know my something borrowed is this necklace Edaline said I could borrow that would go perfectly with everything. I just need a something old and a something blue, but this is all stuff that can wait for the day of."
Syden stared intently at the paper. "Okay, any other human wedding traditions?"
She thought about it for a second. "I want my dad to walk me down the aisle, definitely. I'll trip if he doesn't, anyways."
"Humans have their fathers walk them down the aisle?" Syden wrote it down. "That's weird."
"It's ceremonial," Sophie replied. "Also an exchange of rings. I already talked to Biana about that."
"Exchanging of rings? What?"
"Wedding rings," Sophie replied. "You say your vows and after your I dos you slip the ring on your new spouse's finger and then after all that you kiss. Instead of just vows and kiss."
"Okay, I can work that in, definitely." She started to write and circle random things on the paper, and Sophie didn't bother to ask what she was doing exactly. "Okay, is there a certain councilor you want to officiate the wedding or would you do with anyone?"
Sophie frowned. "Well, both Bronte and Oralie are important to me. I could do with either of them."
"Well, how about one of them takes care of the elvin traditions and the other takes over to do the human parts?"
Sophie and Keefe locked eyes. Sound good? she transmitted and he nodded. They both turned back to Syden. "Bronte has this weird obsession with humans, he was alive when we still had good relations with them and has stated before to me that he missed them. I remember when my sister was here and he was the one to show her around and things. I'm sure he'd appreciate getting to do the human traditions for my wedding."
"Okay, so I'll jot that down, but it's up to you guys to tell everyone what they're doing of course."
"Well, I work with the council a few times a week so I'll be able to tell both Bronte and Oralie," Sophie informed. "That's shouldn't be a problem."
"Would you like to go over elvin traditions? It's getting kind of late, so if you want we can find another day we're both available and work on this a bit more. Besides, you both still need to pick a date anyways."
"That's a good idea," Sophie said, looking at the time. "Biana is supposed to come over to help us look at rings anyways."
After a few moments and hug goodbyes, Syden was out of the apartment and just Keefe and Sophie sat there looking through the binder she left behind of different wedding things. "I didn't realize it was this much to plan a wedding," Keefe said laughing.
"Should've just eloped," Sophie replied.
