Memento Mori - Arrival

Emily's POV:

I stretched out my arms as I woke up. I glanced out of the window of the car. "Geez Matt, where are we?" I asked.

Matt smiled. "We're about 100 miles away from the lodge." He yawned, rubbed his eyes, and put his hand back on the wheel. I glanced at my phone. 1:32 A.M. Has he been driving the whole time?

Comment on it, or ignore it?

"Matt, have you been driving this whole time?" I asked. He nodded, not taking his eyes off the road. I looked out of the window and noticed a sign with some hotels in the area.

"Hey, Matt. Pull over on the next exit." I told him. He frowned.

"What's up, Em?" He asked.

"It's late and you've been driving since we left L.A." I said. "We'll just stop at a hotel, spend the night, and get to the lodge in the morning." Matt nodded. After a few minutes, we had found the hotel and checked in. Matt threw the bags beside the bed and flopped down on it.

"Oh man, these beds are so soft." He mumbled, drifting off into sleep. Okay then.

I sat down in one of the chairs by the T.V. For a moment, I sat in complete silence, aside from Matt's occasional snoring.

"Fuck Em, what did you get yourself into?" I asked myself. "You know you're not ready to see them again." I thought of... them. Jess and Mike. My best friend and my ex. Together.

Fuck.

It won't be too bad. Sam, Chris, Ashley, Matt, and Josh will be there. And, who knows, maybe you'll be able to fix your problems with those two. I argued back.

"Let's hope." I whispered, turning off the lamp, and crawling into the bed with Matt.

I woke up when I heard the door slam shut. I sat up and watched as Matt walked in, holding food from some local diner.

"Morning, Sleeping Beauty." He said, setting the carry-out boxes on the table. "We can eat, then head on up to the lodge."

I nodded and clambered out of the bed. I sat across from Matt at the small table and opened the box. "I wasn't sure what to get, so I just some pancakes." Matt said, wolfing down his food.

I smiled and took a bite.

Matt's POV:

It had been hours since we left the hotel, and Em had been pretty quiet. I knew she was kinda freaked out about seeing Mike and Jess again, but I told her we could stay back in L.A. instead.

Check on Emily or keep quiet?

"So, uh... Em... are you alright?" I asked. She turned and looked at me.

"Yes, Matt, I'm fine. I'm just going to be stuck in a cabin with the two people who went behind my back and hooked up." She snapped.

"You have me" or "I'm sure things will be fine, Em."

"Em, don't worry about them. They... they went and started dating, despite the fact you and her were besties. Plus, Em, you got me now. Right?" I said.

"Yeah. Yeah, Matt." Em said, dismissively. "I'll never understand how she could do something like that to me."

"So, it's Jessica" or dismiss it.

"So, its Jess who really hurt you?" I asked. Em sighed and nodded her head.

"Mike was great, but Jess was my best friend. I thought I could count on her for anything, and then she goes and dates my ex."

"Hey, Em, I'm sure she didn't want to hurt you-" I started to say. Em snapped her head towards me and frowned.

"I don't care if she meant it. She went and fucked my ex behind my back. Fuck her." Em growled. I slinked down in my seat, and kept driving.

Sam's POV:

Ten Hours Until Dawn

I stepped off of the bus and sighed. Geez, never thought I'd be back here. Especially after loosing... her. I flipped open my locket I kept around my neck and sighed. Sorry Beth... I should've done something more. Maybe I could've stopped Hannah?

I shook that thought off and looked up at the sign that hung over the gate. Blackwood Pines. Just the name gave me a cold feeling, almost as if something was staring at me. I ignored it, and opened the gate.

"Alright, let's go find Chris." I mumbled, walking towards the cable car station. I glanced around, and sighed. "Where are you, Chris? You're not in the bag, are you?"

Ring.

Oh? I looked over and saw his backpack. His phone was barely sticking out of his bag.

Ring.

Should I answer it?

Ring.

I grabbed his phone and glanced at who was texting him. "Well, look who it is." I mumbled.

"Hey nosey." A voice said behind me. I nearly jumped out of my skin as I looked back at Chris. He had a small frown.

"Chris, you scared me." I mumbled.

"I'm sorry, are you my secretary?" He asked. I held out his phone to him.

"Well, it was buzzing-"

"Cool. Well, thanks for letting me know. I can take it from here." He said, taking the phone back. I frowned. Maybe I should've just let it ring?

"Oh, so I found something kinda amazing..."He said, starting to walk around the cable car station.

"What?" I questioned. He turned and smiled.

"I'm not gonna tell you. you gotta see it for yourself. Follow me." He started walking again. I started following him when I noticed something stuck to the wall of the station.

"Oh man look at this." I said, pointing at the paper.

"Wanted. Milgram, Victor." Chris said. "Niiice. Think we'll get a visit from America's most wanted?" With that, Chris walked over to the thing he was so desperate to show me.

"Tada!" He said, holding his arms out.

"What? Who puts a shooting range at the base of a ski lodge?" I asked. Chris turned around and picked up the gun.

"Haven't you met Josh's dad? Dude things he's Grizzly Adams or something." With that, he started aiming the gun at some of the targets.

Jessica's POV:

I played on my phone while I waited, clutching my letter to Mike. Damn Mike, when are you gonna show up? I asked. I felt myself smile as I heard the cable car pull up.

"Oh boy, new people. Time to meet and greet." I mumbled. I stood up, letter to Mike in hand, and walked toward the cable car door. I jumped back as someone's fist slammed against the glass.
