Mememto Mori- Deception
"Shit!" I said, stepping back from the door. "Why the fuck would you do that?" I asked. Chris shurgged.
"Hey, Jess, we're locked in. Mind getting us out?" Sam said, stepping into view. I nodded and slamming my hand on the button to unlock the door.
"Thank God, if we were trapped in there for another ten minutes, I would've gnawed off my own leg." Chris said, strutting out. Sam followed him.
"Gross, Chris." Sam said. Chris grinned and moved towards me. I held my arms out for a hug, but he took my letter instead. "Ooh, what's this?"
"Hey, give that back." I said, my face growing red. I made a gab for it, but he moved his hand away.
"Hmm, seems like our dear friend, Jessica Adams, has a crush on class president, Michael Monroe." Chris said, twirling around. "I wonder what sort of sizzling erotica Ms. Jessica is capable of writing..." He mumbled.
Should I explain the situation, or demand he give my letter back.
"No, Chris, Mike and Em split, and we're together." I said. Chris and Sam looked at me.
"No way... you and Em?" Sam mumbled. I shook my head, giggling slightly.
"No, me and Mike." I corrected her. She nodded and began to walk around the picnic table.
"Geez, drama." Chris said.
"Not really, Em's out, I'm in." I said. "Now give me my letter back." Chris held the letter out to me, and I snatched it back.
"Well, we're gonna walk on up to the cabin. Wanna come with?" Chris asked.
Should I go, or should I wait?
"Alright, sure." I said, grabbing my bag and phone.
Matt's POV:
"Seriously, couldn't they have put the lodge right where the cable car ends?" Emily said, walking towards the pathway up to the cabin. I picked up her bags and started to follow.
"I don't think it would've been as pretty... y'know?" I said.
"Also, where's the bellboy when you need him?" She said. "Brr... getting chills." She said, stepping onto the small, covered bridge.
"Don't worry, we're almost to the lodge." I reassured.
"No, I mean like I feel like something bad is gonna happen-" She was cut off when someone jumped out of nowhere at us. I dropped the bags, getting into a fighting stance. Em stepped behind me as I prepared myself to fight.
"Hahahaha!" The guy laughed, he clapped once, obviously thinking he was funny. In fact, he was doubled over, laughing.
"Michael!" Emily snapped.
"You really, really should have seen your faces right there." Mike said.
"Dude, I almost clocked you just now." I said. Mike straightened up.
"Nice one. " Mike chuckled.
"Michael, you're a jerk." Emily growled. Mike frowned.
"Come on guys, we're all friends here, right? No need for violence, just a little harmless fun! We're up in the woods! It's spooky! Come on, let's get into the spirit of things." Mike said.
"The spirit of things? Seriously? What's wrong with you?" Em asked.
"I'm just trying to lighten the mood, Em. Don't be like that." He said, waving his hand at her.
"Like what?" She asked.
"The way you're being. You always get like this." Mike said.
Alright, I need to step in. Should I be defensive, or be friendly?
"Michael, you gotta step off. Emily and I are together now, and that's just the way it is. I'm not gonna tell you again. Do we understand each other?" I said, using my most intimidating voice. It had to have worked to some degree, because Mike looked upset.
"Well, I thought maybe we could move past all this. Be buds. Bu, yeah, fine." Mike said, pushing past me and Em.
"Mike-" Em said.
"No, no, no, it's totally cool. I'm just gonna go head down the road, be all mature and shit by myself over here." Mike said, disappearing down the trail. "Peace."
"I think he got the message." I mumbled.
"Y'know, you get hot when you turn all alpha like that." Em said. I felt my face turn red.
I blushed and went to grab the bags, when I heard Em speak again.
"Ah, crap."
"What?" I asked, turning to look at her.
Hey, can you take these the rest of the way?" She asked.
"The bags?" I asked, arching my eyebrow.
"Yeah. Just... all the bags."
"Why?"
"I need to go find Sam." She said, pointing down the path.
"Okay?"
"Sorry... I just, I really need to go find her... I totally forgot I needed to talk to her before we get all the way up there." Emily said, glancing towards the cable car station.
"This... this can't wait? We're almost there." I said. She frowned.
"Matt, please, it's important." She said.
Should I agree and go, or persist and go with her?
"Alright... fine. If it's so important, I guess I can pack horse it the rest of the way." I said. "But..."
She looked back at me.
"You owe me." I said.
"Excuse me?" She asked, furrowing her brow.
"That way, we're even, at least."
"Alright." She said, turning down the trail. "Okay, see you up there, sweetie."
"Be careful." I said, starting to walk up to the lodge.
Ashley's POV:
"Woah." I mumbled, looking through the binoculars that Josh had put in at the lodge. "Hello..."
I stared as Emily and Mike were talking to each other. Mike put his hands on her shoulders, and she brushed them off.
"Someone's getting a little 'friendly', and not in a 'friend zone' kinda of way..." I mumbled. "They might need to check the expiration date on their big breakup."
"AHHHH!" Someone screamed, as they popped into view. I screamed, and stepped away.
"Oh God! God!" I said, clutching my hand to my heart.
"Whoa, sorry there Ash. I didn't mean to scare you-" Matt sputtered.
"Geez louise, Matt-" I mumbled.
"Well, I did mean to scare you 'sort of' scare you, but not for real scare you." He said.
"Oh my gosh... oh my gosh..." I mumbled, lightly pushing him.
"Hey, wow, man. I'm really sorry Ash, damn-" He said, putting his hand on my shoulder.
"It's okay... it's fine." I said.
"Hey, what are you looking at? See anything juicy with that thing?" He asked.
"Uhh..." I mumbled.
Emily's POV:
I yawned as I trudged my way up to the lodge. I felt bad for lying to Matt, but I needed to go see Mike. We had more than a few things we needed to work out. Thankfully, we finally came to an understanding. However, the feeling of betrayal still lingered within my core.
"Seriously, thanks again, Jess..." I mumbled.
"Em." A familiar voice called out. I looked up the trial and saw Matt waiting for me. I gave a slight smile and quickened my pace.
"Hey, sweetie." I said, walking up to him. He pursed his lips before frowning.
"Em, what were you doing with Mike out on the trail?" He asked. What?
Should I be defensive or honest?
"Matt, what are you talking about?" I asked. He crossed his arms.
"I saw you and Mike out on the trail, you were all over him, Em."
