Take me home
The cool October breeze blew through her box-dyed auburn locks, leaving a few strands trapped in the gloss on her lips that she'd occasionally pull her hands away from her phone screen to remove them. With each purposeful step she took, leather block heel boots stomping against the ground in her stride, her eyes and hands remained preoccupied in the heated text conversation.
"Hey, Lex, wait!" Emily's voice echoed in the distance. Her block heels clacked against the pavement.
Alexis groaned, ignoring the scurried steps from her friend not too far behind her. Her fitted mini skirt started to rise up from her lack of pacing, for she couldn't focus on anything other than what was going down in the dm's. With each person she walked past, her muscle memory and sensory subconscious guided her to her destination.
*incoming call from– Annoying*
"Don't fucking call me." she spat.
Of course she forwarded the call. She barely wanted to speak to him, but she'd be damned if she let him walk free without giving him a piece of her mind.
*incoming call from– Annoying*

"Alexis!"
This time it was Jimin not too far behind and equally as concerned. He easily caught up to Emily, making sure not to leave her behind in the crowd but putting enough pep in his step to catch up to alexis.
She came to a stop and answered the phone, aggressively placing the phone against her ear.
"What!" she asked, voiced laced with the most deadly venom.
"Where the hell are you?"
"Why!" she snapped
" Just tell me where you are so I can come get you!"
"I don't need you to come get me! I'm fine exactly where I am."
"Fuck that! Can you stop acting so fucking childish for once?"
On the other line, his voice was no louder than a forced whisper mixed with a shout.
"Right, Javi, riiight. I'm childish," Switching to sarcasm, she exhaled an unamused chuckle. " Whenever something doesn't go your way I'm being childish."
"And that's why I didn't come see you first, 'cause you was gonna be on bullshit."
"Youre such a fucking liar!" she shouted in spanish, catching the attention of any bystanders within 5 feet. "Fucking DICKHEAD!"
The intoxication fueled her anger as she fought back the burning tears that threatened to fall. She gripped the phone in her hand so tightly her knuckles were turning white. She was so occupied by the infuriating conversation she didn't even hear the footsteps of two who accompanied her right behind.
"Man, whatever! I don't even know why I tried with your crazy ass! Call me when you stop trippin!"
"Fuck you, Javi!" her voice cracked.
And then she lost the fight. After tossing the phone in the lawn ahead of her, tears spilled from her eyes one after another, covering her mouth to silence her heartbroken sobs.
It seemed as if the people on the street took that as their cue to contribute to the unbothered society and went about their business. The block she was located on settled down to a peaceful silence more or less, leaving Alexis alone to deal with her own thoughts. Temperatures dropped a few degrees since she first began her walk and the breeze that once blew through her hair now engulfed her in a chill.
"Alexis?"
With her head low, her best friend's soft and worried voice about a foot behind piqued her ears.
"What!" she spat again, her anger sadly misplaced.
"Javier's out?" Emily asked, the question was more rhetorical and the subtle bitterness didn't go unnoticed.
"What's going on, mami?"
The tenor sound calling her by the name she secretly adored caught her attention, causing her head to pop up like a prairie dog and eyes to fall upon the small electronic device a few yards ahead.
Eyes as big as saucers, she scrambled to reach her phone. When she retrieved it, she ran to the sidewalk as she held it before her, hopeful for the damages to not be as bad. She pressed the lock button repeatedly, praying for the phone to work, but that hope disappeared when the now cracked screen didn't light up.
"Alexis, Answer us." Emily softly demanded.
But she couldn't because even though she was a grown woman, she still feared disappointment as if she actually were a child. She knew that if she owned up to still being in contact with Javier, she would own up to selfishly self sabotaging herself. on her feet again, not an ounce of eye contact was made. She was embarrassed and hurt. Not embarrassed because she made a scene in front of strangers, it was because she allowed herself to play in someone's face who was actually worth something to her. She was hurt because she thought that maybe things would be different this time and that all the promises Javier made would be kept. You'd think after being locked up for 4 years, a person would change, she was sadly proven wrong.
"Alexis." once again. "When did he get out?"
Feeling completely defeated, her shoulders sank and her body shook as the tears began to fall once again.
"Hey," Jimin called to her. He raised a cautious hand, careful to not trigger her anymore than she already had been, then placed it softly on her shoulder. "Alexis, talk to me."
Sniffle after sniffle, yet no answer. Knowing exactly who it was, she was reluctant to turn to him, not wanting to burden him with any more concern. She wanted to go to him, not him to come to her. Her going to him meant she had more time to prepare the mask for her emotions so she could forget everything that was weighing heavy on her heart. As her chest rose and fell sporadically, fighting back another wave of sobs, she kept her back to him forcing herself not to look.
"Alexis?" he called again, trying to see her tear-stricken face. "Alexis, please look at me."
"I can't." her voice cracked. If she looked at him she would witness the pity in his eyes.
"Please."
Taking a step around her, his taller frame stood in front of her looking down into her reddened eyes. His heart dropped when he couldn't imagine what else had her this worked up, but he knew it wasn't just what happened with her phone. Long eyelashes that complemented sparkling jade eyes flitted downward. She couldn't hold his gaze for long. Feeling guilty enough that he had to see her this way made it hard to keep eye contact.
Emily, on the other hand, stood still, her arms folded across her body to shield half naked form from the cool breeze, and fighting the brewing irritation within her. She was having trouble believing that Alexis would stay in contact with someone who wronged her so badly he needed to be locked up for it.
As she stared at Alexis' body seated on the ground, bitterness coarse through her veins. How could she allow someone she used as collateral damage to console her right now? It was sick. Unpleasant memories of Alexis crying till her eyes swollen shut flooded her mind. There were too many to count, and there was no way she was going to let it happen again.
"Alexis stand up!"
Emily definitely caught her attention this time and the attention of those surrounding her. Her jaw was clenched and not an ounce of passivity could be found in her. Swallowing the rest of her tears, Alexis attempted to pull herself together. How pathetic. At least that's what she felt. Her eyes fluttered closed when the cushion soft pads of Jimin's thumbs brushed against the apple of her cheeks, wiping away the remaining smeared mascara.
Of course Alexis knew Emily was upset, even the innocent bystanders knew. She couldn't fix herself to even look at her right now. She was surprised that she was brave enough to look at Jimin. Finding the courage to speak up though, that took some effort. But she found it.
She sniffled then wiped her eyes again. "Can you take us home, please?"
Had she kept her eyes on him, she would have never missed the slight disappointment that flashed on his features. His larger build made it difficult to see past him without making an effort, so she looked everywhere but his face.
"Yes, I'll take you. It's getting cold anyway." he admits.
His soothing tenor was comforting and he was right. The temperatures were steadily dropping as the night progressed and neither of them were dressed appropriately.
Her saddened eyes peered up at him slowly, meeting gentle gaze despite his brows still being furrowed. The hand on her shoulder still held her steady, as if he was afraid she'd lose balance if he'd let go.
"Ok." she nodded.
"Ok." A ghost of a smile appeared on his face as the relief washed over him.
The feeling was not mutual, however.
Jimin looked over at Emily as he guided Alexis in the direction of the car. The look he gave her asked if she was coming but her eye roll told him otherwise. He knew her anger wasn't directed at him, but Emily gave him some clarity anyway.
"Actually, I got a text from Jungkook saying he was on his way. He should be pulling up soon, I can wait for him." she said, holding her undeniable grudge by the neck.
"You sure? Want us to wait with you?" he asked, reluctant to leave her behind.
Before she could even answer, a black Audi bumping what sounded like Travis Scott pulled up beside them. Two out of the three knew the car better than anybody and didn't feel the need to guess who it was. His tinted passenger window rolled down, and his cheesy smile flashed us like a shining star.
"Heeeyyyy" the driver greeted with much enthusiasm, completely clueless of the situation.
The original three weren't as amused though. The window rolled back up and he exited his vehicle, pressing the lock button till it chirped as he walked up. Just like Emily secretly hoped, he did participate in the festivities and came dressed up.
What a way to add insult to injury.
It didn't take long for him to read the room. He assessed the situation, taking note of the long faces and silence, then made the mistake of addressing the stupid elephant.
"What happened to her?" he asked simply.
He waited for a response, yet no one was given. Alexis still refused to talk about anything that just transpired, Jimin didn't know whether it was his place to speak, and Emily rolled her eyes again for what seemed like the hundredth time. Her visible aggravation made Jungkook feel uneasy and slightly alarmed that something had his partner so upset.
"I have a better question.." Jimin starts, "A sandwich?"
Jungkook looked down at his form, feeling adequate with himself then answered "it's actually a cheese burger and this is all spirit had left, why? This aint it?"
"No." Emily, the main one he hoped to impress, interjected.
He sucked his teeth, feeling betrayed by his girlfriend. "You'n like it, baby? That's crazy. It was either a burger or a sexy nurse.. I didn't go to med school, so I chose this one. "
For the first time in the past couple of minutes, Emily threatened to crack a smile and it was only from the silliness radiating from her partner. Alexis actually did crack a smile, and of course Jimin shared a momentary chuckle with his best friend.
"You're so stupid." Emily admitted defeat against her witty boyfriend.
"Maybe."
"No you are." Jimin agreed.
"Man, whatever." he shrugged smugly. Despite the hint of lightheartedness, Jungkook still took note of the way Jimin kept his hold on Alexis as if she'd blow away in the breeze if he didn't. His doe eyes widening, he pointed a finger between the two. "Wait, were you guys leaving?"
Jimin looked down at Alexis who shamelessly embraced the way he coddled her. He wrapped her tighter in his arms when a slight chill engulfed her. "Yeah man, I'm going to get her home."
Jungkook's shared expression led his shoulders to sink in disappointment. He had hoped to have a drink with his friend and lose himself in the vibes, but again the room read like a favorite book. Nobody was in the mood for that anymore and he just had to be ok with it.
"Damn, I'm just here too." he sucked his teeth.
The corners of Jimin's eyes crinkled. "C'mon kookie, don't act like that. We can see what's up this weekend."
Jimin usually is the most optimistic of the taeminkook three, but for the first time in a long time the optimism felt doubtful since they're so busy lately. There hasn't been much communication between the three like usual, not that it was any of their faults specifically, they just all lived different lives outside of their brotherhood.
Jungkook sighed, giving his nonverbal consensus, but still managed to offer an honest smile. "Bet."
"Bet."
"You guys drive safely. And get Barney some warm clothes." Jungkook suggested, his shoulders shaking with humor when Jimin shot him a quizzical eyebrow.
"Barney?" Jimin chortled.
"You had to be there."
"Whatever, kookie."
On that note, they left, leaving Jungkook still concerned since the look on Emily's face was nothing like theirs, however, he knew now was not the time to press. He hated that he couldn't do much about what happened moments before, so he made efforts to change what was happening right now. Taking a big step forward, he drank in the sight of her, appreciating the gift that she was.
"You look beautiful." he tried, inching closer to her closed off form, hoping to break the ice. "You look cold, but still beautiful."
She turned her head like a toddler refusing the spoonful of peas offered to her. The corner of his mouth turned up the more he continued to stare at the side of her face, waiting as she clenched her jaw and put more effort into her poker face.
"Baby," he sang. Trying to coax the sweetness out of her.
His honey dipped voice was a weakness to her, yet she wouldn't budge. It was quite adorable to him actually that even though he was at her mercy and had thrown the towel long ago, she was still giving him the cold shoulder. Literally.
"Look, I have room for two between my buns, we can make a double cheeseburger." Still being mindful of her space, he made sure to keep her close in proximity so she wouldn't completely succumb to the cooling breeze like the fake 15 ft tall skeleton that shook in the wind, despite wearing a tuxedo and top hat.
His eyes narrowed and he gave her a lopsided grin when she started to crack under the pressure of comfort and affection he offered. At this point it was fuck her space, im going to hold my baby as he sucked his teeth and stepped around her to wrap his arms around her smaller frame. He had to lean forward in order for his chest to kiss her back, sandwiching the one between them.
Of course she just melted, settling her body against his. His embrace was so annoyingly addicting. She wrapped her arms tighter around her waist, squeezing to shield herself from the air's current and suffering on purpose just so she didn't succumb to his touch.
Oh, but she does. When the strands of hair covering the nape of her are gently moved out of the way, a fresher set of goosebumps prickle her skin when his lips caress the patch of skin, sending a current of chills through her body. Her eyes fluttered closed when he kissed that same spot again, even slower this time, letting his lips linger. Another current coursed through her body as if he lit a fuse in the breaker, sending channels that found their way to the most tender spots. One of the arms that wrapped her waist found its way to his neck to brace herself, and the other absentmindedly grazed the hardened bud in the center of her bustier with the tips of her fingers. Her reaction to him made the corner of his mouth lift and his eyes sparkled with mischief, so he pulled her in closer. It didn't take much for her to go weak in the knees and surrender, her body treated his touch like an irresistible drug and It needed that high.
His warm breath on her skin caused her mind to almost go blank. Each kiss took her to that happy place as they got slower, softer. But she could no longer bask in it when she felt his hand travel up her exposed belly and nearly push past the fabric once the reality of being in public set in.
She squeezed her eyes shut before they widened, and let out the cutest alarmed squeal "baby!"
She gave his neck a nice swat and pushed away from the hamburger's clutch, causing him to wince as he laughed. He was practically doubled over while Her honey brown eyes glared at him with a pinched expression. His laughter was uncontainable and a mixture of triumph and humor.
Her nostrils flared and her arms crossed but the anger long faded. How could she be upset when she practically longed for his presence all night. Now here he was, his silly, goofy, annoying and charming self laughing in pain and cheering her up.
She waited till his laughter subsided. Another gust of wind blew past them, causing her to fix her hair out of habit, so he took the opportunity to snake his arms around again while she wasn't paying attention.
He waited patiently, allowing her to gather herself while looking down at her face till her eyes set on his. Once her fidgeting ceased, her eyes finally settled on his gaze.
"What?" she asked, a blush crept up her cheeks as she shied away from his gaze.
"Nothing." he drew his lip between his teeth, suppressing flutters he felt in his tummy. When he released it there was no controlling the smile that crept upon his cheeks.
"Why are you smiling at me like that?" she giggled, using her thumb to rub the mark she left on the side of his neck.
The pair mirrored each other's smitten gaze, mindlessly threading her fingers through the hairs hairs at his nape and him keeping her exposed lower back warm with every caress. For Jungkook, looking into her eyes was like losing yourself for hours with no sense of time. Those pools of molten honey were like the most supreme utopia. They made him feel things that he was sure even the purest form of ecstasy couldn't. It was a realization he has been coming to lately despite any petty argument they had.
"What are you doing after this?" he asked with a quick nudge of his chin.
"Um, answer my question first?" She raised a brow
"I like looking at you." he admits, licking his lips before repeating himself. "What you doing after this?"
"Going home to my cat."
He nodded his head. "ok ok but like for real... You work tomorrow?"
"Why?" Her voice was soft and expressed her comfort in his arms.
"Let me take you somewhere. It'll out put your mind at ease." he suggested.
"Take me where, Jungkook? It's getting colder and I'm starting to get tired." her knees went weak as she whined, putting more weight on him to which he supported no hesitation.
He sucked his teeth. "Man, stop pouting. I have to take you home anyway, so let me do that."
She took a deep breath, then forced a dramatic sigh.
"Fine."
