1. In a Cave....
Kong has joined the archeology summer camp, under Dr Roger's supervisory, with his friends.
They were currently searching through the forest and found an old cave hidden behind the horde of trees. They had to climb down the cave and search inside for any signs of life in there at ancient times.
Tew asked Kong to go ahead
"No way! Why do I always have to be the one to climb into these caves ?? "
Kong glared at the other boys in his team.
"Come on, Kong You're the only one willing to do something like this"
Aim told him, nudging him towards the cave opening.
"Why only me ???Others can do this too"
Kong said, glaring at Aim
"Please, Kong! You know it freaks me out crawling into these nasty, damp caves."
Aim made a disgusted face.
Kong simply rolled his eyes at him. They all know the only reason He enrolled in the summer archeology program is because of May, he would follow her to the moon and back.
"Fine! I'll go, but you all owe me a big time."
Tew, Oak and Aim gave him a thumbs up.
Kong fished his flashlight from his backpack, flicking it on before he started his crawl into the cave.
The mouth of the cave is barely big enough for him and his large backpack to squeeze through and he knows this will be tough going. His hope was that this will open to a larger chamber soon.
There are many students enrolled in the program, and today they split into two groups: Guys in one, Girls in the other. Their professor, Doctor Roger, assigned each group a grid that they have to explore, looking for any evidence of previous occupants in the harsh environment of the forests.
Kong entered the cave slowly, making sure to shine his flash light all around him, checking for obstacles.
He hoped, he will be lucky enough and actually find something here.
Kong moved along carefully, taking care with his surroundings,
'you never know what you'll find'
He moved his light along the wall, looking for cave drawings or any sign that someone once lived here.
To his disappointment, he saw nothing but plain rock wall.
A soft noise draws his attention; it's nothing alarming, just curiosity inducing.
A scream catches in his throat when the beam of light falls on the source of the noise. Instead of a bat or some other small animal, as he expected, he met with the most vibrant hazel eyes he has ever seen
" Human Eyes "
Kong was frozen on the spot, his eyes trained on those pair of eyes. They held no hostility, merely mirroring the terror in his own. Curiosity wins out, over Kong's fear, and he widens the beam of his flashlight to get a better view of this mysterious creature.
Kong gasped in shock when his light reveals the hunched form of a grown, completely naked man. His skin is filthy, covered with a layer of dirt except for several spots where cuts and scrapes were showing. He is thin, but Kong can see he has muscles on him as well.
His hair hungs around his shoulders in knotted clumps. His features were chiseled and, if the dirt was removed, it appears he'd actually be quite handsome.
They were locked in a stare, neither of them moving.
"Kong! Hurry up!"
Aim's voice pierced the silence.
The man startles at the sound, hunching further down and made a growling noise toward the mouth of the cave.
Aim's voice shook Kong's brain from its startled state, and he called out
"One of you....... radio Doctor Roger, I need him here now!!!"
This man needs help and Kong dosen't know what to do for him, but Doctor Roger will.
"Are you okay in there, kong?"
Oak asked, concern evident in his voice.
"I'm fine. I just need Doctor Roger in here as soon as he can get here."
Kong didn't know why he chosen not to tell the guys about this strange man, he just felt a strong need to protect him.
Turning his attention back to the man, kong saw he's still crouched low, watching him carefully.
Still unsure, kong did the first thing that comes to his mind
"Hello. I'm Kong"
Everything about his face changes, the fear leaves his eyes, curiosity taking its place.
"Can you speak?"
Kong asked him.
He tilts his head slightly, his eyebrows knit in confusion.
"Do you understand me?"
He continues to stare intently at kong.
Very slowly Kong lay down his flashlight. Wild man seems fascinated by the light, his eyes darting back and forth between the flashlight and kong.
With extreme care, kong stretched his hand out towards him.
His eyes lock on Kong's searching fingers, and he immediately hunches further down, an almost hiss-like sound emitting from his throat.
For lack of a better reference, kong treated him like he would a treat a frightened animal. He showed him his palm and spoke in his most calm voice.
"Don't worry. I won't hurt you."
He looks back and forth from Kong's face to his hand.
With a suddenness that took kong off guard, he pokes Kong's hand with one finger before pulling his hand swiftly back.
They started at each other for a moment, like they were both waiting for something.
After the shock of the moment fades, kong scooted closer to him...just an inch or so...his hand still held in front of him.
He watches kong warily, his eyes cautious. Before Kong got a chance to touch him, he grabbed Kong's hand, holding it tightly between both of his.
Kong was completely frozen as the man looks intently at his hand, turning it over and over in his own. His hands were rough, calloused and dirty, but there was a gentleness to his touch.
He held Kong's hand in his palm, his face inches from his hand, his long finger tracing the lines of Kong's palm.
Kong was spellbound as he watched him, and he appears to be fascinated himself.
"Kong? Where are you?"
Doctor Roger's voice breaks through the silence in the cave.
Kong abruptly find himself pressed against the cold stone wall, the man crouched low in front of him, growling toward the direction of Roger's voice.
"Be careful! There is someone back here with me. He's frightened,"
Kong called to Doctor Roger.
The man continues to growl, pushing Kong harder against the wall.
Kong placed his hands on his shoulders and speak calmly to him
"It's okay. Doctor Roger is a friend, he won't hurt you."
Kong have no way to know if the man understands anything he said, but he continued to speak in a calm, even tone.
When Doctor Roger made his way into the cave, his eyes widen at the scene before him.
"Kong? Are you okay?"
Doctor Roger asked.
"Yes, I'm fine. Move slowly, he won't hurt you."
Doctor Roger heeds Kong's advice and moved in slow motion.
"Do you know this man?" Doctor Roger asked Kong.
"No. I found him when I came in, to explore the cave. We have to help him. I think he might be feral."
Kong can just barely see around the man's shoulder, but it's enough to see the concerned look on Doctor Roger's face.
The man is still growling, but quieter now. Doctor Roger is a very kind man, Kong was sure he can sense that.
"What do you think we should do?"
Kong asked
Doctor Roger seemed to consider his words carefully before he spoke to Kong
"He seems to have formed an attachment to you; he's clearly protecting you."
Kong knows Doctor Roger is right and, oddly enough, he felt the same need to protect this strange man.
He is calmer now and has ceased growling, though his body is still tense.
Kong took a chance and lay his hand gently on the man's shoulder, hoping the action will calm him further. His reaction is immediate. His head whips around till his eyes locked on Kong's hand, and kong found himself holding his breath, awaiting his reaction. Once again, he pokes kongs hand with one finger, watching him carefully. This time kong smile at him and watched as his hand travels from his hand and pokes the corner of Kong's mouth. He looks so perplexed and Kong's heart bleeds for him. What must he have gone through to be in the state he was in right now ???
"How involved do you want to be?"
Doctor Roger asked
"Whatever it takes."
Doctor Roger gave him a look filled with pride, which doesn't really surprised Kong, He's Kong's dad's best friend, so he's known him all his life. Kong has never been one to get really involved in things...always an observer, but something in him felt so compelled to help this man, he can't even explain it to himself.
"I think the best thing will be for you to see if you can get him to follow you to our camp. From there I can sedate him and we can transport him to my house"
Roger informed Kong
" I am going to clear out the others before you come out. I'll leave my radio here for you. Call me when you are closer to camp, Be careful."
With that, Roger made his way back out of the cave.
The man visibly relaxed as soon as Roger is out of sight and turned to face Kong.
He looks so innocent as he watched kong. It made Kong felt bad that he will soon be put through so many challenges. But Roger is right, his home is the best place for this man, and kong intend to help as much as he can.
Once again, kong reached out toward the man and, once again, he clasps his hand in his, turning it over, studying it intently.
Kong has no idea how long they sat like that, each studying the other. Kong was finally pulled to reality by the sound of a growling stomach.
"You're hungry aren't you?"
Of course he doesn't answered kong, but the uncomfortable look on his face and his growling stomach told kong all he need to know.
Kong pull his hand from the wild man and slide his backpack off. The man looked on with interest, even poking at the backpack as kong rummage inside for a protein bar. Finding one, he peel the wrapper back and hand the protein bar to the man. He just stares at the bar in kongs hand.
"It's food. See, you can eat it."
Kong nibble the corner of the bar then offer it to him again.
He pokes it with one finger, this seemed to be his preferred method of exploration.
Kong kept holding the bar out to him, hoping he will take it. He leans toward Kong slowly, smelling the protein bar. He never took his eyes off of kong as he grabs the bar from his hand, retreating back as he greedily shoved it in his mouth. The snack disappears in seconds.
Kong pulled out a water bottle from his bag and took a drink before handing it to the man. He took it from kong with less caution this time. He seemed to be growing used to Kong's presence...trusting him more.
The look of wonder on his face when the cool water hits his lips made Kong's heart clench. His mind can hardly fathom what he must have suffered through to wind up in this state.
Kong tried several times to get his water bottle back, but the man seems oddly fascinated and attached to it, so he just let him hold on to it.
The radio's receiver buzzed and Roger's voice rang through the speaker.
"Kong, we're all clear out here."
Now comes the tricky part, trying to convince him to follow kong out of the cave.
He got his backpack on and crawl toward the passage leading out. The man made a low humming noise in his throat and grabbed Kong's ankle His face is distressed when kong turn to look at him. Kong reached back, grabbing his hand and tried to pulled him with himself. He won't budge. He was amazingly strong for being so thin.
"Please come with me... I can't just leave you here."
Again he cocked his head to one side, his eyebrows furrowing.
Kong tugged his hand again, but he still refused to move.
Kong searched his brain for anything he could use to bribe him from out of this cave. He suddenly remembered that he had a bit of chocolates in one of the pockets of his backpack. Perhaps that will entice him.
Kong pulled the chocolate out from his bag, breaking off a small piece. Wild Man took it from him eagerly as soon as kong offered it, shoving it into his mouth. His eyes become wide as he chews, a twinkle lightened his eyes, and, to Kong's immense surprise a small laugh erupted from his mouth.
He scooted closer to kong, one hand still on his ankle, the other held out in front of him. Kong saw an opportunity. He tried moving a little further down the tunnel. The man's strange humming sounds again. Slipping him another piece of chocolate, he popped it right into his mouth, following it with another laugh, and then he inched closer to kong again. The bribe seemed to be working as they made their way through the small opening of the cave.
Kong stood up as soon as he could, taking full advantage of the ability to stretch.
Turning his attention back to the man, Kong saw him still crouched on the ground near his feet.
Kong reached down and offer him, his hand. He looked at Kong for a moment, confusion evident on his face. He finally sets his fingertips lightly in Kong's palm. Kong gave his hand a tug, hoping it conveys his wishes.
Slowly he made his way to his feet. At first his posture is quite hunched, like he wasn't used to standing up straight. He cautiously stretched his muscles to stand at his full height. When he does, Kong noticed that he was a little taller than himself.
To Kong's complete embarrassment, he realised that the man was still quite naked. Of course kong knew this from the beginning, but it was so much more obvious now that he is standing next to him in the bright sunlight.
Kong avert his eyes from him, blushing furiously and began the six hundred metres walk back to their camp, naked wild man in tow.
