Chapter 9: Welcome to land of wolves

Chandler, hunter of the Murrow Clan above

Chandler POV

The car moves slowly as we move from the rented apartment in the human city close to the Black Moon Pack. I am obsessed with security, after all; that's why I've decided to leave five people in the human city. To ensure that I will have a way to ask for help if needed, to have a backup plan. I understand that trust is essential, but I'm not ready for complete trust, that's for sure.

Alister is whistling, keeping his hands on the driving wheel, and Anne looks outside with a bored expression; two more cars follow us. In total, twenty hunters, meaning two full squads, will participate in the first peacekeeper operation between werewolves and hunters, and somehow, I find it a bit funny.

Alister stops the car,  and we wait in the middle of the forest, miles from the Black Moon's main territory.

"What if this is a trap?" Anne asks, and Allister whistles mockingly.

I personally chose the people, I made sure we came here armed and ready, but I'm also aware that in a matter of seconds, we may have to run for our lives. Well, that must happen will happen. I close my eyes and count slowly in my head, minute after minute. I wish my dog could be here with me, but the deal was no animals, and I've had to respect that.

As time passes, I honestly start to think that this may be some trap when the bushes in front of us move a bit, and they step out of it. Four of them, three brown wolves and one black, are big, so they are high rank. Good, it means that they see us as dangerous and that they are as distrusted towards us as we are towards them.

One shifts and stands in front of us, proud and naked.; he is younger, bigger than me, and convinced about his strength. I smirk and whispers:

"Welcome to the land of wolves."

And next, I step out of the car.

"My name is Sam, and I'm a Head Warrior of the Black Moon Pack. In the name of my Alpha, I welcome you on our land," he says. "Follow us, and we will take you to the packhouse."

I nod as he shifts back, and we resume our journey. The four of them run in front of us, but I'm not naïve to think that at least a dozen more aren't following us, hidden from our sight in the forest.

"So here we are," says Anne as we leave the forest and pass by firsts buildings. Soon we arrive in front of the big house, which I must say is quite beautiful; those jerks know how to build. Three people are standing on the porch watching us quite intensively.

The first one is a man, tall and well-built with dark eyes and hair; the second is a girl, also significant, her muscles are pretty impressive, and yet she looks sad. The third... well, the third is the slim, blond girl in a causal T-shirt and jeans, who looks the most fragile of them all, and yet the moment I step out of my car, and she locks her eyes with mine, I know, I know that she is Tonya Blackwood and no matter what she shouldn't be underestimate ever.

I'm a Silver Bullet, so I faced a lot of Alphas, but none of them was giving such a strong vibe of dominance like hers, even her father.

"Welcome to the Black Moon Pack; my name is Tonya Blackwood, the Alpha," she says in a stern voice." These are Kathy Stone, the first Beta of Black Moon Pack, and James Blackwood, the second Beta of Black Moon Pack."

"My name is Chandler Crow, and I'm a commander on this mission, "I say. "Anne and Alistair will serve as my deputies."

"Let's go to my office then to discuss the basic arrangements," she says, and the six of us go inside.

The hall of this place is quite extensive, too. We pass the entrance to the big living room and see some people looking at us, not with hate or anger, but more like curiosity. Well, I can understand that. Based on the information, since packs in this region destroyed the Hunter Alliance twenty-three years ago, not one clan managed to move back and operate freely in this region.

We again enter the big office, with bookshelves full of books, a leather couch, an extensive wardrobe, and a very massive and ugly desk. I notice Tonya's eyes shift, and she sniffs intensively and next sighs.

"Please sit down, but before we start. Kathy, they are in the wardrobe," she says, going slowly to sit behind her desk, and Beta James rolls his eyes as Beta Kathy walks fast into the direction of the wardrobe and opens it with full force.

"Sonya Stone, get out and better have a good excuse to explain yourself!" she growls angrily.

From the wardrobe steps out a tiny and, I must say, cute little girl, in my opinion, she is around seven-eight years old, she has dark eyes and tanned skin, but she resembles her mother a lot. Kids are kids no matter where they come from. But to my surprise, just behind her, also a wolf steps out. If it's a werewolf, that's the smallest I've ever seen, but looking at it makes me feel calm; I feel that I am looking at something extraordinarily pure and fragile.

"I just wanted to find out if they have horns," Sonya mumbles looking at her feet.

"Horns?" Kathy's voice is cold, and I'm sure Sonya knows how much in trouble she is right now.

"Granny of Trudi said that hunters were demons, and she survived a hunter's attack once, and the kids wanted to know if they have horns or like other monster things."

Tonya rolls her eyes as Kathy look goes to the wolf.

"And you are supposed to be an adult! What the hell...!"

"Don't scream at Zoya!" Sonya yells, wrapping her around the wolf's neck as he whimpers and looks sad. "I asked her; Zoya and Rosie are my best friends!"

If the look could kill, Kathy seems extremely angry.

"Enough of this," Tonya says" Out both of you, we will discuss it later."

I smirk as they both leave, and Kathy snaps at Tonya and James, saying:

"Your sister, not mine!"

"Your daughter, not mine!" they both respond in unison, and Alistair giggles, and Anne's face stays emotionless as always.

"Sorry for that," Tonya says as finally all of us take a sit. "Would you like anything to drink?"

"No," I say" Let's get down to the business."

"Okay, the house will be assigned to you during your stay here. As a pack, all members were commanded to maintain at least two meters distance, but a guardian will always be watching you; I hope you can understand. If you need to call me all Kathy quickly and we won't answer our phones, go to him, and he will mindlink me. You are free to walk around the pack's territory, but I don't allow any guns; knives, and other inexplosive things you are allowed to have. I ask you also to always walk in groups of two at least and of course, you understand that you will be watched. I also have a request and recommendation not to interact with pack members outside the packhouse, especially kids; their parents' instincts can kick in."

"Understand, I was sure you would relocate all civilians," I say, and she smirks.

"We are here to make peace; we need to trust each other, so I decided to trust you. Those who live on the main territory got the choice to stay or to move out, and most have decided to stay."

I nod; for now, everything seems normal.

"The house assigned to you also has a big open space on its back. Feel free to use it for your training. I know you left the squad in the human town, you are always free to go to them, but it will be essential to notify us when you want to go back because patrols need to be notified."

"Will they let us leave?" Anne asks coldly, and both Betas look at her, unhappy.

"Yes, you are not prisoners here," Tonya says. "If you need anything on a daily basis, like food supplies, ask one of my cousins Troy, Travis, or Tyler; they will be in charge of you. Kathy and I will be responsible for negotiations; James will be in charge of the pack so you won't see him very often."

"The arbiter?" I ask.

"Terry will be here in three days; it's custom for both negotiating parties to welcome him together. Do you have any more questions?"

I think of it for a bit; for now, everything seems fine.

"I know the circumstance is bad, but you saved my father, and I'm very grateful. I hope we can build something here. Something that will help both of us in the future." She finishes, and once more time, I show my respect by nodding my head.

The door opens, and three identical guys, for sure Troy, Travis, and Tyler, enter. They introduce themselves and, next, take us to our place of stay. They show us the line, the boundary the werewolves are forbidden to cross, which guarantees our privacy.

The house is significant, with enough room for everyone and our equipment; Alistair starts preparing the commanding center in one of the rooms and places the movement detectors around the house. Better safe than sorry, as Anne is checking for any spy devices Alpha could place in this house, but to her utmost irritation, she finds none.

And I check the fridge, as always. It's full, so I have no problems preparing a sandwich. Anne, for sure, will preach that I can't be sure if there is nothing in the food, but truth to be told, if they wanted us dead, there are quicker ways than poisoned tomatoes and ham.

Honestly, I feel a bit strange sitting in the middle of the pack and being busy eating. After all, I'm a hunter, I wasn't born in the clan but took in, but I don't have good memories with werewolves. I have always seen them as vile creatures; for me, they are people granted too much strength, which they tend to exploit in terms of their own advantages.

"I think I want to take a walk," I finally say, and Alistair and two more guys decide to go with me. Anne seems busy triple-checking the house, so we go. Soon, we spot our guardian in his wolf form, and we tell him what we will do; he nods and stays in his place. Soon, out of nowhere, comes one of the triplets he has to remind us of his name, Tyler.

He guides us around, answering most of the harmless questions Alistair is asking; he's always tended to speak too much. From to time, I spot people looking at us, but it doesn't bother me; I haven't come here for popularity.

As we approach the training grounds, I spot Sam, the Head Warrior, and Beta Kathy, with two kids watching Tonya fight with someone. We get closer, I'm curious about her fight skills, so I intend to watch a bit, and since nobody opposes, I do it. Kathy and Sam acknowledge our presence with a quick nod of their heads.

For a while, we watch in complete silence. Tonya is skilled in combat and knows what she is doing, and something in me stirs. I like challenges, and I'm sure that defeating her in hand-to-hand combat will be challenging. But the vibe they give us is strange; I don't know why, but I think I'm watching making love, not the combat. The way she touches him and teases him is full of seduction, and he doesn't stay behind because he uses every opportunity to touch her body as if he is caressing it, not battering it.

"So Sam, what do you think about Noah's skills?" Kathy interrupts the silence.

"Average, he is strong but sloppy; he needs to improve if he will serve in patrol."

"And whose idea is that?" Tyler snorts, irritated, and Sam and Kathy give him questioning glances.

"He has to have something to do. Charlie is helping my mother in the packhouse, and Noah can train. He has been here for two weeks, and for now, everything seems fine. I think you are worried too much, Tyler," Kathy says evenly.

"I'm not worried; I think she is too enthusiastic. Something in their story seems illogical, and don't forget that they are rogues. I'm not prejudiced,  but rogues are rogues usually because they did something bad."

"Mates are Goddess blessing," Sam mumbles a bit, and Kathy sighs:

"Tyler, I know you are concerned, we have no reason to trust them, but we also have no reason not to do it. But I hope Tonya's mating will go without any drama; there has been enough of it in this family."

She bents to take her son, I'm sure of it, in her arms. This one is a small kid, but just like Sonya has gorgeous eyes and the same smile as her.

"Have you found your accommodation appropriate?" Sam changes the topic and looks at me, and of course, Alistair starts talking again. I watch Tonya more intensively. I try to figure out how she thinks as she fights; I may need this knowledge soon.

"Would you like to try?" the Beta asks, and I smirk. Tempting as it may sound, learning that way about them means also them learning about us. Probably that's why they haven't reacted to our presence and watching their Alpha. Because Tonya isn't fighting now, more like...

"You want to flirt with me because that's what those two are doing now," I say bluntly, but I get no answer because Kathy's son says out of the blue:

"You want to marry my mommy, but you are a monster? Flirting is what mates do, and just because daddy can never come back, a monster can't marry mommy and..."

"Hank," Kathy says, and her son stops talking. "Chandler is our guest, and it's rude to say that to him. I know some of your friends hear things from their parents but behave yourself, okay?"

There is a hint of sadness in her voice, as if she has just remembered something terrible. It's not my business, but I wonder what happened to the father of her children because the way the boy spoke suggested that his father is gone but not dead.

But I'm sure this place has at least one more person with a bad past. Alistair and I haven't exchanged looks, but I'm sure he is perfectly aware of the same thing I am. The guy now fighting /flirting with Alpha is one of the guys hunted by the Alpha of Shadow Pack.
