SETH ROLLINS &
DEAN AMBROSE

for IceCream_Hugs

Dean never considered himself to be very..festive.

Halloween? He'd rather throw on his own merch and dress up as himself instead of bearing the burden to search for an appropriate costume and waste his money because he knew it'd end up in the far, never-to-be-worn-again section of his closet until he made it to his grave. Christmas was around the corner? Great, cool. Two thumbs up. He wished everyone a merry one and then went back to figuring out what he was supposed to do when Vegas was drowning in snow and he had nowhere to wrestle for the next few nights.

Birthdays?

Oh, don't even get him started on those.

The notion that it was supposed to be a celebration that one was now a year older failed to settle itself into Dean's mind. To him, birthdays just meant getting closer to that grey hair and those old-person hand wrinkles that no one ever wanted. Nearer to getting a cranky attitude and yelling at the television when you didn't like the channel because you couldn't reach the remote (because your back hurt and you're a lazy ass grandfather now and it's all because of those damned birthdays).

But this year, things were different. Dean had to make them different.

He had spent the last weekend stuck in his thoughts and counting down all the times Seth had somehow snuck a surprise gift into his hands, keeping in mind that Dean was not a fan of birthdays or the presents that came along with them. A rose and a box of chocolates one time, a pretty expensive looking watch had found its way onto Dean's bedside table the next year as Seth stumbled around the room with his words in an attempt to change the subject before Dean could really put two and two together. And just recently, Dean had woken up to a red velvet cake, complete with candles and decoration - as well as a kitchen that held the faint scent of burning that they both chose to ignore for the moment.

Dean might not have been vocal about his realisations but he wasn't dumb either; Seth had given him something or the other to remember him by on nearly every birthday they shared together while the Cincinnati native had nothing but a morning kiss hello and a grumble of "happy birthday, enjoy it while it lasts" as he shuffled to the toilet, not yet fully awake.

That was about to change - maybe. If Dean could just get the damn present wrapped without having to start from scratch every ten minutes.

The floor around him was littered with all the discarded wrapping paper, so much so that if spread around properly, they could use it as a new carpet. Not that he'd want a carpet with cartoonish confetti all around it. In fact, now that he looked at the wrapping paper a little more closely, it was pretty ugly; Dean wasn't sure what he'd been thinking when he went out to buy it, but he'd only gone around the corner and his neighbourhood wasn't very well-equipped with birthday decorations. Even the cake in the fridge was mediocre at best.

"I didn't know you were so into gift wrapping."

"Jesus Christ are you fucking okay?" Dean get himself jump, goosebumps rising on his skin at the sudden sound of the voice. He hadn't heard a single sound to indicate Seth was coming around, not even the car parking in the driveway outside like he usually kept an ear out for. "You sneakin' up on me now?" He drawled, his heart still in his throat with Seths surprise visit.

Seth's eyebrows raised in pure amusement, Ambrose noticed when he turned his head around to look at him, clearly enjoying the fact that he'd managed to spook Dean. "You wrapping presents now? Am I missing something here?"

Biting the inside of his cheek, Dean averted his gaze back to the task at hand - caught red-handed yet again. "Nah. Nothing at all." He hadn't really explored the possibility of what he'd do if Seth found out about the surprise, so of course, the only thing Dean could really think of doing was just keep wrapping. Maybe Seth wouldn't ask anymore questions and just leave him to it.

But of course, Seth couldn't do that.

"You realise I don't expect anything from you, right?" His words circled around the room yet again, the amusement from his time gone and replaced with a sudden seriousness that Dean didn't really enjoy having to hear either, mostly due to the emotion it held. "I know you're not into this kinda stuff..and you really don't need to do it to prove anything to me either."

Dean sighed, cutting off a long piece of tape as he finally managed to neatly keep one end of the wrapping paper straight. "Sometimes, you gotta show..love. So that's why I'm doing this. I guess."

There was a momentarily silence before Rollins spoke up again. "I love how you can make such romantic things sound so awkward," Dean could hear the grin in his voice, right before he bent onto his knees to sit beside him on the carpeted floor and placed his hands over Dean's to stop the movement. "How about you take a break?"

Dean raised an eyebrow, blue eyes meeting hazel. "Are you tryna say I'm not good enough to keep this going?"

"That is not what I -"

"Because I'm actually really not, how about you just open it up now?"

Seth's eyebrows raised in surprise; Dean had never been much of a quitter before. "Wow you must really hate this birthday thing. Alright then," he rubbed his hands together in anticipation. "Let's open this baby up."

He didn't really need to try that hard, Dean hadn't even taped the paper onto one end of the blue coloured box that held the actual gift and the wrapping paper was - to put it nicely - atrocious. Rollins tore through it carelessly, letting out an excited breath as he opened up the box and - "Oh. Wow."

"Yeah," Dean scratched the back of his neck with pure anxiousness. "This made sense..since you're on the cover this year and all."

Seth stared down at the video game, eyes trailing over his own face and the title above it; speechless. Realising that Dean was waiting for an audible reaction, Seth pulled the man into a tight hug, catching him by surprise as he grunted into Seth's neck. "I love it. Thank you so much for trying."

"I love you. Happy birthday."

"I love you too."

And as they held each other in that moment, Seth Rollins felt like the luckiest man on the planet - and he didn't want to let go.

(He also didn't want to mention the fact that he'd already bought the WWE 2K18 game and had played it right in front of Dean just a week ago. It was worth it).
