A week into living with the Winchesters, I received a phone call from a frantic friend of mine.
"Hello?" I answered, ignoring the curious look from Sam who was my babysitter at the moment.
"I need some help" My friend, Zander, a vampire, spoke. I immediately drew my feet off the chair across from me, my full attention on his voice. "I got a hunter on my trail, and a pack of vamps on the other end. Either way I'm screwed"
"Where are you?" I stole Sam's notebook that he'd been using while looking for cases and his pen as well.
"Uh, K-Kansas I think" he stuttered, his breath coming out of puffs.
"Where specifically in Kansas?" I asked, waiting for Zander to answer.
"Uh, give me a sec- Winfield! It's Winfield." I quickly scrawled the name in my own special code, one no one knew except me.
"I'll be there, just find somewhere, text me where, and sit tight. Stay safe alright" I didn't wait for a reply before hanging up, Sam looked like he wanted to ask, but I ignored it in favor of calling my hunter contact.
It rang for a few seconds before someone picked up. "Hello?" Their voice was groggy, and I glanced at the clock, realizing it was relatively early in the morning.
"Sorry, did I wake you up?"
"No no, you're fine. Sam and Castiel were up anyway" Garth told me over the line, a fussy baby soon confirming his words.
"I just had a question, are there any of your hunters in.." Looking down at my paper and then at the hunter across from me, I continued. "Kansas?"
"Uh, hold on a second, I'll check. Can I give ya a call back?"
"Yeah sure, just hurry because I've got someone in danger at the moment" I carefully ripped the paper I'd used out of Sam's notebook, wordlessly giving it back to him.
"Will do" Garth replied, hanging up the phone soon after.
I pulled up my maps, typing in a search for Winfield, Kansas. Sam broke the silence after a moment while I was looking for my route.
"Who's in danger?"
"Don't worry about it" I replied without looking up from what I was doing.
"How are you going to get there? Cas isn't gonna let you leave the bunker without one of us" Sam's eyes were burning a hole into my head.
"I said don't worry about it" I repeated, saving the address on my phone and stuffing the paper into my pocket as I stood. "What Castiel thinks he can prevent me from doing and what he can actually stop me from doing are two very different things"
He didn't help my mom raise me, so he has no say in who I am or what I do.
Sam shrugged in reply. "Cas can be pretty stubborn"
"Whatever, I'm going to bed" I started to make my way to my appointed bedroom. The boys had supplied it when they realized that I was still somewhat human and I needed sleep.
The hallway was lit with old fashioned lights, they were about a foot above my head. The hallway was long and spacious.
When I entered my room, I quietly closed the door, locking it behind me. Making my steps sound relaxed but louder than normal, I walked to my bed.
I've come to find out that Sam and Dean have freakishly good hearing, so I have to make them believe I've really gone to bed.
After a few moments, I quietly changed direction to my closet. I'd managed to convince Dean I needed new clothes and after accidentally letting slip that I've never been to school, Sam insisted on getting me supplies so I could go to the local high school.
I pulled my new backpack out of my closet, carefully taking the notebooks and pencils out as I did. Then I stuffed it with a couple of days worth of clothes and essentials, before slowly zipping it closed, praying that it wasn't too loud.
Castiel had been called to heaven three days ago, and hadn't been back since, so I have one less thing between me and Zander.
On my desk sat a pad of sticky notes, I took one and a pen, writing a note to the Winchesters. Hopefully they wouldn't look for me.
Quickly slipping out of my room, I shut the door, trying to give myself as much of a chance as possible.
Packing took longer than I thought, the bunker was dark, the Winchester's bedroom doors were closed and faint snores came from Dean's.
Tip toeing past, I quickly made my way to the stairs in complete darkness, I tried to feel for furniture so I wouldn't trip, however I accidentally bumped into one of the 'war room' chairs and it created a louder noise than I recall it making hours before when it slid across the floor.
I froze, straining my ears for any sort of movement. When I heard nothing, I let out a relieved breath, and carefully continued on my path to the stairs so I could sneak out.
My foot was on the first step when the blinding lights were flipped on. I squinted as I sought out the source, just in time to see Sam and Dean put their guns away.
"Where are you going?" Dean questioned, eyeing my backpack that had been slung over my shoulder.
Taking a deep breath, I avoided eye contact. "I'm going to help someone"
"Who?" Sam wondered "is it the person from the phone earlier?"
Dean shot him a questioning look, before turning back to me with his arms crossed. "What phone call?"
"Someone called her and then she called someone else right after" Sam explained while I shifted from side to side, my wings swaying as I did.
"It doesn't matter" I sent a glare to Sam. "I'm leaving"
Turning on my heel, I made it about halfway up the stairs before Castiel showed up at the top, his arms folded. A knowing look in his eye gave me a sense of unease.
He knew.
