Chapter 4 Drunk
"I'm serious! She walks into the room about to let him have it and slips on some papers!" You laughed as you retold a story about Claire, laughing more with Owen and Barry as they seemed to be in stitches at your story.
"No way, not Claire." Barry laughed as he tried to reason that didn't happen and you quickly shook your head after taking a sip of your drink.
"No really the guy told everyone he had slept with her and she walked in to tell him he's fired and she trips before being able to say anything." You laughed a bit more shaking your head one more time before sighing looking back at the bar.
It was lively for a Monday night, the park guests chatting amongst one another loudly over drinks as music played from above blasting some pop music and some club remixes to keep the guests happy. You looked over to owen and Barry as they chatted with one another and you allowed your fingers to run over the rim of your glass looking at what was left of your drink.
"Any more stories about Claire you wanna share?" Owen smirked after placing down the beer he had been drinking on to the bar making you turn to look at him.
"About Claire? No I'll be fired if I tell another." You joked a bit crossing your legs humming thoughtfully.
"But I can tell you how she saw your first date." You looked back at Owen as he groaned a bit earning a laugh from Barry.
"She probably said a bunch of untrue things." Barry laughed a bit.
"Hey this is a happy place don't ruin it." Owen laughed a bit waving his hand in dismissal. Turning his head back to the bar Owen finished his beer only to order a shot of tequila seeming rather pleased when the small shot glass was placed down salt against the rim with a lime to finish it off.
"Hey I gotta get back home." Barry looked down at his watch as he sighed finishing off the only drink he had all night then stood straight.
"Really? So soon?" You turned your self around in the bar chair to face Barry as he stood up looking curious as he nodded with a bit of a sigh.
"Yeah it's a shame I know." Barry huffed a little before he seemed to laugh it off.
"Don't have too much fun with out me." Barry laughed waving a goodbye leaving you and Owen alone at the bar. Why was this suddenly awkward? You turned back around after Owen took his shot the salt off the rim and the lime squeezed out to the side.
"So," Owen started eyeing you a bit his arms resting against the bar, "if Claire talked so bad about me what made you want to come work for me?"
Your eyes looked at Owen before falling back to your drink.
"Well, when I first started work here I wanted to work at an enclosure. You know be close to the animals learn how they behave and admire them even if they aren't the same from when they were around naturally. It's still fascinating to see them roaming earth once again. But I was placed as an intern down in the main building and then met Claire. She liked how I worked and bumped me up to her personal assistant. 3 weeks ago, we were at a lunch meeting and I was offered the position to help you file your paper work and keep you organized. But I didn't care about that part my main interest was getting to see dinosaurs and working so close to the field even if I'd still be looking through a glass window while everyone else here to be outside. So I mean I took the job for the experience. Not because I wanted to know who, in her words, the boorish brainless man who gave her a horrible first date was."
You laughed a bit as you spoke taking a sip of your drink looking away as Owen eyed you curiously for a moment.
"Yeah well, she was the crazy one. Who plans a date the way she does? Down to the millisecond? What the hell." Owen grumbled a bit before clearing his throat.
"I'll agree with you there. She shouldn't of done that. But she isn't a bad person, she just looses sight of what life is really like. Unpredictable, no amount of planning and organization can prevent that. She really did like you she's not normally so quickly captivated by a guy so you must of impressed her. No matter what she says." You picked at the table as you spoke sighing before looking up.
God I think I need another drink.
"And what about you? What do you think about me?" Owen scooted a little closer wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and you groaned pushing him back a bit with a laugh.
"Persistent." You joked a bit shaking your head humming in thought.
"Truthfully though not as bad as she made you out to be even if I don't think you should of worn cargo shorts to a first date." You made a face and Owen huffed.
"It's hot here!" He justified himself.
"I know but at least wear jeans man, come on first impressions." You laughed a little at him as he grunted in response.
"I also admire the way you care about your raptors, i think that says a lot about you as a person. People who treat animals well tend to be good people in my experience." You looked at Owen more and he seemed to nod at your words before sighing seeming like he was relaxing.
"So how'd you become friends with the she-Rex?" His eyes lingered on yours.
"Honestly I have no idea it just kinda happened. But she's a good friend, or tries to be." You looked back into his eyes.
"That's surprising." Owen had ordered another drink at this point and began to drink it after you finished your first one. No matter how much you wanted another drink you thought it best not to order another one. More conversation passed by time and before you knew it owen had about 6 drinks at this point, you're getting a little worried. (Considering they were hard liquor now.)
"Hey maybe you should stop you still have to get home." You softly lowered the 7th glass in his hand lookin at him concerned.
"I'mnotdrunk." His words now slurred together and you made a face. Oh man how are you gonna get him back home?
"Of course you're not but let's not have anymore right now." You spoke slowly like talking to a small child and Owen laughed loudly throwing an arm over your shoulder. He's a little too close for comfort you can smell the liquor.
"Is it mm because you want all my attention?" Owen hiccuped as he spoke a bit his eyes becoming half lidded making you gasp a bit leaning back.
Of course not you idiot! Why does that feel like a bit of a lie...
"Alright come on I'm taking you home." You stood up quickly making sure you helped him stand, he staggered a bit but some how stood pretty okay.
"Oh you want that kind of attention." Owen slurred teasingly in your ear his hot breath fanning against the lobe making shivers cascade down your back before you scoffed.
"Owen." You looked at him surprised your face turning a shade of red only to look embarrassed as he laughed loudly with hiccups in between his laughter at your reaction.
"Just come on." You marched forward with him leaning against you and made your way to your car figuring you can help him get his motorcycle back tomorrow. Owen staggered as you walked out of the bar making your way to your car fishing out your keys to unlock the doors helping him get in. Owen was being persistent not wanting to let you help him sit down on the seat without some sort of incentive and you tried your hardest not to let him get to you as you buckled him inside.
"(Y/N)." Owen hummed your name a bit like he enjoyed listening to himself saying it as you got into the drivers seat putting your keys into the ignition. You knew where to take him, it wasn't the first time you've been down there. You had gone twice both work related asking about some paper work but this time as a friend dropping him off.
Hmm his friend. Is that what you were now? You figured yes since he let himself get drunk with you. Owen spoke all sort of gibberish as you drove and you prayed to God or what ever being that ruled over the earth that Owen wouldn't vomit in your car as you drove before finally making it to his bungalow.
You winced seeing it again seeing the outside was messier than what yours looks like. You almost wonder if Claire arranged for your place to look better. Quickly getting out of the car you helped Owen out sighing as he laughed before nearly throwing all his weight on you.
"You're stronger than you look." Owen hummed a bit again and you huffed trying to help him stand a bit straighter.
"I lift boxes full of nothing but filed reports for days sometimes, of course I'm stronger than I look." You wheezed as you tried to get him to stand walking him to the door as he hiccuped some more. Letting him rest against the pillar you realized you don't gave his keys and looked at him offering your hand.
"Where are your keys?" You peered up at him as he seemed to think about the question, then as he remembered, began to dig through his pockets a bit wobbly trying to pull keys out but he seemed to be fumbling.
"I'll get them." With a sigh you reached into his pocket looking away as he gave you a smug grin like he enjoyed the idea of your hand so close to...no! No, you're not going there, professional! Quickly you yanked the keys out and fumbled your self to find the correct key to put into the lock and quickly opened the door helping him walk through being sure to close it with your foot at least as you helped him walk. He stumbled onto the couch laughing now as you put his keys up on a table only to look around.
Now that you think about it you don't think you've been inside before. It's not as messy as outside but there's still a mess. Clothes in one pile close to a slide glass door to the back that led out side, and an occasional food wrapper or beer can tossed or left around. But you'd think there'd be more than that surprisingly it's not as much as it sounds.
"(Y-Y/N)!" Owen hiccuped through his laughter beginning to slam his hand up and down against the couch's arm rest having a fit of some kind snapping you out of your thoughts.
"What's-" you started to speak only to quickly look away face shriveling up in disgust as suddenly he vomited a bit on the wood floor in front of the couch.
"Wrong..."
Well at least he doesn't have a rug.
You sighed in thought before turning back carefully avoiding the vomit as you helped Owen stand.
"Okay let's get you to the bathroom." You groaned a bit as Owen slurred out a cheer of approval and you made your way to the bathroom.
Some how you ended up sitting on the floor beside Owen as he vomited into the toilet for a while gently patting his back, sometimes rubbing it, shaking your head. Three weeks ago if you told your self this is where you'd be helping your new boss and, now let's be real, friend with his drunk vomiting you wouldn't believe yourself. Actually you'd laugh in your own face and make a joke about how Claire never gets that drunk.
"I'm going to go clean up the vomit in the living room." You stood up taking your hand away from rubbing owen's back as he gave you a thumbs up to say okay between vomiting. Quickly leaving you cleaned up the floor as best as you could only to find when you returned to the bathroom Owen had passed out half way through vomiting.
Yeah live a little, does he always get this drunk on a weekday with work in the morning?
Your eyes looked down at the sleeping Owen only to turn on your heel to get a wet paper towel and clean off his face before trying to heave him up in an attempt to make it to his bed.
"Oh god he's so heavy!" You grunted to your self as you attempted to push, drag, and pull him to the bedroom. At last you made it, helping him lay in the bed after shrugging his vest off.
"Best assistant award goes to...me!" You cheered mentally for your self after tucking Owen in bed only to freeze as you felt a hand grab your wrist.
"Mm-stay." He seemed to be sleep talking, that or he was still drunk as ever, but you looked down at him and sighed a bit brushing his hair back from his face.
"Okay." You smiled a bit and felt him let go of your wrist letting you slip out of the bedroom to the living took collapsing on the couch. You can't wait to explain why you're here in the morning.
Looking up at the ceiling you let out a breath thinking about this whole situation and how stupid everything that had happen was. But what if you said no and he was left at the bar causing some sort of ruckus. In a way he's your responsibility keeping him in line for the Head's.
Rolling over on your side you found yourself falling asleep quickly exhaustion over coming you from the little sleep you've had recently. Tomorrow morning was surely going to be a roller coaster.
