Chapter 13

Hey guys! I'm back! This is a little late because of my trip, so a little turbulence for updates until they go back to weekends :3 Hope you guys enjoy the chapter!

-Seto's POV-

There were no words to describe how I felt once Brice and I arrived back home.

The car journey was silent, Brice quietly fuming while I sat numbly in the passenger seat, staring out the window.

He kept giving me worried glances, but I ignored him. I ignored everything.

I just, couldn't believe it.

When I first walked into the park, I was so certain Brice's parents would be finally accepting. I thought that was the entire point of their visit!

I was wrong, so so wrong.

As soon as I saw them I was scared. I hid behind Brice, thinking back to my foster dad. Brice's dad looked a lot like him, big and aggressive looking; so I hid.

I was prepared for confrontation, but not what that woman spewed out.

She.... she wished for Spud, my baby, to be aborted. My innocent, unborn child, killed, just because his parents were gay?

I almost fainted when she said that. Brice was so brave, responding as he did, but, she planted the seed.

What else would other people think about Spud having two dads?

Male pregnancy was not as common. It was a fairly new development only really occurring in the last couple of decades or so, and a lot of people still thought it abnormal.

I shivered, curling further into the blanket on the couch. Brice was in the kitchen making tea, and I was sat, staring at the wall, my mind going 100mph.

I ran my hands over my bump slowly, the taught skin surprisingly cold under my fingers.

Spud was being unusually quiet, not squirming or wriggling around as he usually does, just still.

I think he was feeling the affects of meeting his grandparents, same as we were.

I couldn't feel anything, couldn't think of anything, apart from those horrendous words.

Sin? Our child was sin? I shuddered again, wrapping myself even more in the blanket, closing my eyes.

The couch dipped to my left, and I opened my eyes to see Brice peering at me, a nervous expression on his face, two mugs in his hands.

I blinked as he pressed one of the scalding mugs into my hand, placing his hand on my knee, squeezing softly.

I took a small sip of the steaming liquid, not feeling the usual warm sensation, not tasting the bittersweet flavour. I was truly numb.

"Baby?"

I slowly looked to the left, feeling like there was cotton wool in my ears. Sounds were muffled, lights dim. Everything was dull. Numb.

"Seto, baby, talk to me, please." Brice whispered hoarsely, and I sighed, swallowing around the lump in my throat.

I set the mug down, shakily allowing Brice to slip an arm around my waist, and he carefully pulled me into his lap, tucked under his chin as his hand trailed up and down my arm lightly, both of us silent.

We both knew how riven the meeting had left us, it was up to us to help move on and forget it.

But I just, couldn't. I couldn't forget what she said.

It repeated over and over in my head...

"You should have just aborted that thing when you first found out! That thing was created out of sin!"

I only realised I was trembling when Brice grabbed my hands, holding them to his chest, eyes glassy as he scanned my face intently.

My numb state was wavering as I watched a single tear escape the corner of his eye. I just... let it out. The dam broke.

I choked out a sob, my shoulders shaking as I slumped into Brice, cradling my bump as I wept, tears blurring my vision.

Brice's grip on me tightened, burying his face in my hair as he held me, pressing his lips to my crown, mumbling sweet nothings.

"Let it out baby, let it all out. They're wrong, I love you, Seto, and I love our baby. You're going to be an amazing daddy, and you will show those fuckers that you're better than them. I love you baby, never forget that. Let it out." he whispered, his calm words slowing the frantic buzz in my brain.

All my emotions were returning at once, all the delayed shock, anger, fear, despair, everything flooding in.

My mind was a mess, things I haven't felt in years surfacing, past pain coming back to bite.

I know the hormones were probably amplifying theses feelings, but just knowing they were still there honestly scared me.

My sobs died down as Brice continued to sooth me, rubbing circles on my tummy with one hand, holding me tight to him still with the other, and I was reduced to whimpered and hiccups.

I wasn't sure which I preferred, the numbness, or the pain.

Some may the I'm overreacting to their words, and they may be right, but she was hateful to my baby, an innocent life I loved with all my heart.

And if Ty was there, who's unfortunate enough to be unable to have children, he would have torn her limb from limb.

Yes, her spiteful words were in themselves insignificant enough, but their impact shattered me. And Brice.

As much as he's keeping strong for me, and putting mine and the baby's needs first before his own, I knew he was hurting.

I mean, come on, his parents basically cut him down and out of their lives, just because he's gay, just because he's with me?

It's.... my fault.

It's my fault Brice's parents hate him. It's my fault they said all those things. It's my fault Spud's going to grow up being seen as a freak with two dads. It's all my fault.

"Brice." I croaked, my voice raw from crying. He paused for a second, before kissing my temple, pulling back to look at my face. His thumb brushed against my cheek, his bright azure eyes gazing into mine intensely, a small sad smile on his face.

"What is it baby?" he asked softly, his voice a little strained, concerned. I bit my lip, trying to hold myself together. He nuzzled my cheek as if urging me to go on, and I let out a shaky breath.

"I-I... I caused all this, didn't I?" I breathed, barely audible. I couldn't just hold this in, and let it fester, I had to let it out.

He froze, fingers stopping their movements. He snapped his head to my face, brow furrowed, striking a match behind his eyes.

"Seto, how on earth do you believe that?" he gasped, gripping my shoulders as his eyes searched mine, scanning my face with a deep frown.

I bit my lip, tears pricking in the corners of my eyes. I didn't answer, averting my gaze.

A soft, tentative brush over my forehead brought my gaze forward, glancing back at Brice, who kissed me once again, cupping my cheek gently to keep me from turning away again.

"Seto, listen to me. Please baby, just listen. You caused nothing's you being pregnant with our baby is a dream come true, for both of us. When Spud is born, she's going to be loved, never mind what others think of us. Don't think that anything you did was bad or a mistake. I love you, and I love our little Spud, that's all that matters. Not my parents, or what anyone else says can change that." he murmured letting his free hand caress my bump, a smile coming to both our face when Spud kicked.

Brice chuckled, kissing my nose, brushing away a stray tear from my cheek.

"See? Our little princess agrees." he said, making me roll my eyes at him.

"I still say Spud's a boy, Brice." I retorted, feeling instantly better, as Brice shook his head fondly, raising an eyebrow playfully.

I laughed, leaning into his chest as I hugged him, loving every fibre of his being. I am and always will be so grateful to have Brice. My husband, my love. My soulmate.

Now, tears were streaming down my face for different reasons. Damn hormones. I squeezed him tighter, burying my face into his neck, kissing the warm skin softly.

"Thank you Brice, thank you so much." I sniffles, smiling as he nuzzled the top of my head.

"I love you baby, always." he murmured, and something fluttered inside me, and it wasn't Spud. He continued to hold me tight, whispering sweet nothings in my ear as we just sat there, enveloped with each other.

I pulled my face out of his neck, looking up at him, really looking.

His blonde hair almost glowed in the dim light, defying gravity as always, his fiery blue eyes, trained on my face, his sharp, defined cheekbones accenting his smile, his strong jaw ticking as his smile stretched upwards.

He was beautiful, so gorgeous. This was the man I loved. This was the man that drove back even my darkest demons.

He never judged me, never got impatient with me or my damn mood swings, always making sure to tell me how much he loved me. Sometimes I don't know how I got his lucky.

He blinked down at me, eyes curious as I continued to stare at him.

"What's up Seto?" he asked, cocking his head ever so slightly to the left. He was so cute. I shook my head, a ghost of a smile lingering on my lips.

"I just really really love you. I know I don't say it as much as you, but I do. I love you, Brice." I muttered, tracing circles on the back of his hand resting on my bump.

His eyes softened, his face turning a little pink as his grin grew impossibly wider.

"I-I love you too Seto." he stammered slightly, looking flustered. I giggled, rubbing my nose against his.

I loved this amazing, dorky man.

-Brice's POV-

My heart was beating fast against my rib cage as Seto said he loved me, just like every time he said it.

Even after the crap my family pulled, he still managed to love me. I pulled Seto closer, stroking the bump as Seto rested his head on my shoulder, sighing tiredly.

We sat in comfortable silence, not crippling tense as before, just holding each other, Spud cradled between the both of us.

The sun had long set, and the stars were beginning to peek through the inky sky, brighter due to the new moon. It was peaceful once again.

However, I couldn't brush off what my parents had said. Who told them? My fathers voice flashed in the back of my mind, and I paused, finally letting it sink in.

Harrison... Hanson.

"Brice, why are you shaking?" Seto whispered nudging my arm a little, that I was indeed shaking. I took a deep reach, trying to steady myself.

I couldn't tell Seto about this revelation. He was stressed enough as it is, it's the last thing he needs to worry about that prick again. Not what after what happened last time.

I sighed, smiling, softly at Seto, who was looking at me curiously with a hint of concern in his eyes.

"It's nothing baby. I'm just tired, s'all." I mumbled, kissing the top of his head. He frowned a little, but nodded, leaning back into me with a small yawn, closing his eyes.

Ok ew he didn't believe me, but he dropped it for now. Hopefully he'd forget by tomorrow.

I shuffled on the couch, leaning up against the arm, pulling Seto down to lie on me, his bump comfortably propped up on its side against a pillow I somehow managed to pull from under me.

Seto wrapped the blanket he had been using around the both of us, creating a warm, cosy, burrito mound, with Spud in the middle.

He had his arm across his stomach, the other resting on my chest, his head stuffed into my neck, wiggling a little until he was comfortable.

I snaked one arm around his waist, playing with his fingers as they rested on his stomach. I kissed his head, sighing comfortably.

I really hope he realises that my parents words don't matter. I'd snuggle him until he got the point.

As I drifted off, a snoring Seto on my chest, I tried to push back the niggling dread at the back of my mind.

Something bad couldn't happen now, after all this, could it?

It's late and I'm dog tired and asdfghhjkl I love you all >.< Drinking game: take a drink for every time Brice says baby XD
