xxiii. Fire
The next morning, the same process repeated. Aizawa woke his students up before the crack of dawn and they were training once more.
The sheer amount of exhaustion felt by the students was horrid, but they all also felt an insane amount of ambition and drive to improve their Quirks, so it balanced itself out. So again, for hours and hours on end, the kids trained with all their hearts, Aizawa occasionally stepping in and telling them a better way to do what they were doing, or telling them to try harder.
Todoroki would occasionally look in the direction of Bakugou and Lightbringer. They were far enough away so that the brightness wouldn't hurt his eyes if he merely looked, if he were to look for too long, though, it would.
He couldn't see her or Bakugou, but the boy still felt the need to look, especially after last night. Only one thing disturbed Todoroki, and that was that Aizawa didn't know. The only people who knew were himself and Endeavor.
It wasn't his business, he knew that, and he wasn't like some green haired boy who stuck his nose in everyone's business but his own. Shaking his head, Todoroki returned to his own training, erasing his mind of his teachers possible drama.
As one of the final breaks came about, the Wild Wild Pussycats had a major announcement to make
"Now tonight, both classes will go head to head in a test of courage! Your reward for all your intense training- some intense fun!"
"Woo!" Many students cheered, while there were three other different kinds of reactions.
"I hate scary things..." Jirou.
"A banquet of darkness..." Tokoyami.
"Oh really? I completely forgot about that." Kendo.
And more training ensued, until dinner time.
"Shouta, Shouta, Shouta!" [L/n] beamed, jumping on the man's back, his reflexes allowing him to hold her piggyback style rather than falling on his face.
"You're taking the remedial kids, aren't you?"
"Yes. Most of them were lacking in their training today, so I'll be lecturing them while everyone else participates."
The two were now sitting at a table, eating.
"That's gotta suck for them, though." She admitted, shoving a bite of stew in her mouth.
"While it may, it's necessary. They shouldn't have failed in the first place."
"Now I feel the need to apologize to Ashido and Kaminari."
"You shouldn't apologize to them. They just need to get stronger."
Their conversation was over after that, the two eating in a comfortable silence.
Soon, the time came for the Battle of Courage to begin- and for the remedial students to get dragged away to their lesson.
I don't remember what I'm supposed to be doing, I just know I'm supposed to scare some children. [L/n] wasn't quite sure as to how she'd scare the children, she wasn't really that scary. Though she knew Kaminari and Ashido would probably disagree with that thought.
The occasional scream of students did make her chuckle as she wondered through the forest, now just making it her job to make sure no one killed each other, especially with Bakugou in the mix.
Then she smelled smoke.
Aizawa's eyes widened as Mandalay's telepathy began to ring through his head. Everyone! We're under attack by two villains, and there might be more out there! All those who can should get to camp at once! If you encounter any enemy, don't engage! Just retreat!
"Vlad, I'm leaving these guys with you. I'm heading out to protect the students." Leaving no time for arguments, Aizawa ran out of the room and building, halting as he saw the entire area shrouded in a black smoke, crawling with blue flames.
"This is bad..."
"Always worrying about others, huh, Eraserhead?"
And then there was fire.
"VLAD!"
"You Pro Heroes, stay outta our way. You're not the ones we've got a beef with." And this was the introduction the hero got to Dabi.
Aizawa was writhing, his students, his precious students, were under attack again.
Why the fuck is this happening!?
[L/n] was coughing as she held her breath, trying her best not to inhale the poison. She was in the worst possible position to be in, in an extremely flammable environment with more than enough innocent bystanders. Her Quirk was useless.
Wandering around in search of the foes, it wasn't long before her ability to hold her breath began to give in. Only then, however, did she recall that her hero costume had a mask, all thanks to Aizawa. Pulling up the mask, she took in a deep breath.
With one final breath, her wheeled boots began to spin and she zoomed through the forest, leaving a trail of light in her wake. She may not be able to use her Quirk, but that didn't mean she couldn't still help the students.
Aizawa's battle with the villain ended somewhat soon as he was approached by his students, breaking his composure and allowing Dabi to break free.
"Quite worthy of being an instructor at UA. Ain't that right, hero?" As Aizawa tugged on the capture scarf that was still around the villain, the latters expression became twisted, along with his voice.
"Is it cuz your students are so precious? I hope you got what it takes to protect them. See ya!" And he vanished.
"Sensei, what was-" Mineta began, quickly getting cut off.
"Get back inside." Mineta and the other students didn't dare say another word as they returned inside the building, alongside Vlad.
The teacher then charged into the forest, soon coming in contact with a rachet looking Midoriya.
"Sensei! Really glad I found you!" The boys voice was gruff. "It's really bad... There's a lot I've gotta tell you! But first, there's something Mandalay needs to hear..."
"Wait-"
"Take Kota with you. He's got a water based Quirk, so please protect him!"
"Wait-"
"Please and thank you!" He began to run off.
"Wait, Midoriya! Those wounds, you've gone and done it again." Now, he was referring all the way back to what happened in Hosu.
"Oh, no, but-"
"As I was saying, tell her this."
After Aizawa's next words were spoken, Midoriya ran off once more.
Soon, Midoriya's voice, through Mandalay's telepathy, rang.
Everyone in Classes A and B Pro Hero Eraserhead said it's okay to fight back!
A short silence followed as Midoriya relayed one more message, this one being relayed in Mandalay's voice.
One of the villains targets has been identified! It's the student known as Kacchan! Everyone get that!? Kacchan!
Bakugou!? Lightbringer was now in a sort of panic. "Crap, I've been zooming around forever and it's like I haven't gotten anywhere!"
Stopping for a minute, she looked around her surroundings and began to grow heavily frustrated with herself. She couldn't use her Quirk, or rather, she couldn't use that Quirk. The fire, or whatever it was, was an option. Yet she couldn't bring herself to do it, even if this was the perfect time.
Shaking her head, she began to wheel through the forest again, soon finding a group of unconscious students.
"Hagakure!? Jirou!?" Immediately taking action, she picked up the two lifeless students and began skating towards the main area of the camp, hoping and praying for everything else to get better.
Making it to the main area, she ran inside the building, she and Aizawa locking eyes once she arrived in the room with himself, the remedial students, and Vlad.
"I'll take care of them, go find Bakugou!" His tone was one that she hadn't heard in awhile, a tone that was cold, demanding, and angry. [L/n] knew that anger wasn't directed at her, because it was an anger she shared.
"Aizawa Sensei! Lightbringer! Please, let us come too!" Kirishima pleaded. "He's my best friend, I can't just sit in here and do nothing!"
"You can't go, Kirishima!" Aizawa demanded, the student now seeing another side to his homeroom teacher. "Enough of you are out there. The last thing we need is more students getting caught up in this."
"I don't care if I get hurt! He's my friend and they're after him!" Kirishima argued.
"Kirishima's right! Bakugou's my friend, too!" Kaminari added on.
"Stop it!" Ashido yelled. "Can't you tell they're under enough stress!? I know... Bakugou is my friend too, but we're students and all of this falls on them, the Pro Heroes! If something happens to us, in the eyes of the world, it's their fault!"
Aizawa and [L/n] were speechless at Ashido's words.
"Besides," the pink haired, smiling, slightly teary eyed student then looked to Lightbringer, who still held the bodies of Hagakure and Jirou in her arms. "You'll be out there looking for him, right?"
Ashido had heard what Aizawa told her, that he'd take the two students and for her to find him.
"Yes, yes I will be." Lightbringer gave Ashido the biggest, most confident and comforting smile she had ever given anyone.
"Please, Lightbringer, bring Bakugou back safely." Kirishima pleaded once more, except this time, he was finally putting his faith in another person.
"Go. I'll take care of everyone here." Eraserhead spoke, the woman nodding.
Lightbringer laid Jirou and Hagakure on tables and turned to leave, but was stopped as a hand grabbed her wrist.
"I believe in you." Ashido's words hit [L/n] in a way she had never felt before. For someone, a student, to have this much faith in her made her glad. Yet it also brought forth a responsibility that she couldn't fail.
"Thank you. Listen to Eraserhead, he'll keep you all safe." And with that, Ashido let go and [L/n] wheeled away.
Wheeling her way through the forest area, she realized that the poisonous gas was finally gone, yet she didn't pull her mask down. She wouldn't be taking any chances.
That's when it happened. When Lightbringer wheeled into an unforgettable scene, one of Bakugou telling Midoriya to stay away, of Todoroki, Midoriya, and Shouji not being able to reach him.
A scene in which Lightbringer's wheels didn't stop.
"Katsuki Bakugou!"
Midoriya, Shouji, and Todoroki watched as the Pro Hero appeared out of no where with a face of anger and determination.
Lightbringer latched onto Bakugou, her wheels beginning to reverse.
But they grabbed her first.
And they pulled her in.
