ii. That Memory
"Aizawa, [L/n], you'll be patrolling tonight." The teacher stated, the two students heads popping up.
"I'm sorry, but aren't they a bad match up?" One of the students spoke up nervously. "With [L/n]'s Quirk, Aizawa won't be able to use his own. Not to mention that Erasure is more of a stealth Quirk, one that can be hidden, in a sense. [L/n]'s Sun is very flashy and impossible to miss, their assets clash with one another's, I don't think they'd be able to fight together, at least not properly." And so, another student added their valuable input.
"They don't even talk to each other, communication is very important when it comes to working together." Before any other commentators decided to speak up, a certain blonde decided to voice his oh-so-vocal opinion.
"Hey, Shouta and [F/n] are perfectly capable of working together! Opposites attract after all!" Yamada spoke up with a proud smile on his face.
"Yamada, this isn't the right context for 'opposites attract'." Enji stated.
"Ahem. All of you have brought up very good points, however, you're not thinking deep enough. Let's use this as a lesson, an example.
Yes, their Quirks appear to hinder the others, yes, they don't talk to each other, yes, their techniques are opposites." The teacher took a breath. "But heroes must work together no matter the circumstance, chaos and destruction can arise at any point and you must be able to work with whatever environment, whatever Quirk, is at your disposal. All of you will go through some sort of test to put your heroism and abilities to the test, Aizawa and [L/n] patrolling tonight is their test. So, before any of you go criticizing team-ups and each others abilities, take a good look at your own."
That night, Aizawa and [L/n] met up outside the schools gates, preparing themselves for night patrol. The former wore his hero costume, his capture scarf and goggles laying loosely around his neck for the time being. He watched [L/n] as she walked up in her hero costume, one she had never once altered since their first year. With a body suit made of both cotton and energy absorbent fishnet, she was set. The chest piece was shades of red and orange, the bottom piece being baggy pants that tucked into her knee high black boots with intricate red and orange lacing on the sides, two wheels also being built in the bottom of each boot. Her hero costume was very simple, her only equipment being wheeled boots and shaded goggles that were atop her head.
"Ready?" Aizawa asked plainly, [L/n] simply nodding as the two began to walk. Just the way they walked set them apart, with Aizawa walking slightly slouched and [L/n] partially skipping, the two emitted completely different energies.
"How do you think tonight's going to go?" [L/n] asked, both trying to break the ice and get his genuine input.
"If we go where they told us to go, nothing'll pop up." He stated, taking a right where they were supposed to take a left. Rather than correcting him or saying they should go the other way, [L/n] simply followed, curious as to where this would go.
"While we're still just walking, Hizashi picked out your hero name didn't he?" [L/n] inquired with a hum, looking the boy in his eyes as she now walked backwards in front of him.
"Yes, let me guess, he picked out yours too?" Aizawa answered, only the slightest bit of interest in his voice as he spoke.
"Mhm! I couldn't think of one so he gave me one instead." [L/n] answered, a fond smile on her face as she spoke of her friend. The two were silent yet again, walking aside each other once again before a cold chill went down both of their spines.
"It's not every night that two UA students come waltzing down these streets, especially all hero-ed out like that." The mans voice was dark and sadistic, as if he already knew what he was going to do despite just now laying eyes upon the two. As the two students got back to back, looking for the man who's voice was clear as day, yet physically impossible to see.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, I expected better out of UA kids, especially second years, yes? I figured as much, Shouta Aizawa, [F/n] [L/n]. The two of you were quite impressive during the Sports Festival." As the man finished his sentence, [L/n] found herself unable to breathe. "You see, both of you have beautiful Quirks, but mine is far better." Aizawa too, found himself unable to breathe. "I can control others body parts once I look at them, it's quite useful, yes?"
The two students were choking, their lungs begging for air they couldn't access. [L/n] grabbed Aizawa's hand, giving him a look she could only hope he understood. Moments later she had her shaded goggles on, her body illuminating the entire area, a bright star in the middle of a dark abyss. In a split second, Aizawa caught a glimpse of the man and locked eyes with him, erasing his Quirk just long enough for [L/n] to stop using her own and Aizawa to use his capture scarf to grab ahold of the suspect at hand.
"Impressive, impressive. Two differing Quirks coming together in such a fluid motion, it's a beautiful sight to see, though my eyes burn now. But alas, did you two really forget what I said? I saw you at the Sports Festival, I was already expecting this." He sighed. "Maybe your minds aren't that great after all."
"After all, we know your weaknesses now as well." A second voice came in, one that belonged to the woman who now had a blade to [L/n]'s neck. "And you, you're afraid of the dark, are you not? I find it rather humorous you're patrolling the darkest part of the city with that fear of yours." She spoke sinisterly, slowly pressing the blade deeper into the girls neck. "And don't move a muscle Aizawa, I'm not using any Quirk and I can slit her neck quicker than you can get over here."
He was becoming angered, irritated, but at the same time he didn't know what to do. While the boy was lost in thought and a bit panic stricken, his capture scarf loosened, giving the man just the opportunity he needed. Launching himself forwards, the man grabbed the back of Aizawa's head and slammed it into the ground before placing his hand on a certain part of his back, the boy beneath him immediately struggling.
"I didn't think it'd be this easy to take down two UA students. Don't look at me like that little girl or else I'll stop his heart entirely, right now I'm just slowing it down."
"Take your fucking hand off of him or I swear you'll regret coming out of those pissy ass shadows." [L/n] demanded, her usual [e/c] eyes now a golden color. Aizawa too, despite being in the blind panic and pain he was in, was taken by surprise as to how she spoke, her tone of voice.
"Ooo, there's some language that I've never heard coming from the rising hero Lightbringer, the one who's expected to shine bright on people's day and bring them hope. Even at the Sport's Festival you were full of sunshi-" The male found himself cut off as she interrupted him with narrow eyes.
"I said take your hands off of him." The man smirked as his hand pressed harder on her companions back and that's when she lost her cool— as Aizawa's body then truly began to struggle, the boy in a blind panic of feeling his own life slip away and unable to look up at the man to erase his Quirk, [L/n]'s emotions took ahold of her as she did something reckless. Her entire body lit up brighter than it ever had before— brighter than when she had to give her all while fighting Enji during the Sports Festival— and oh was it hot as Hell.
"Fuck!" The woman yelled, backing up and dropping the blade, the clothes on her front half nothing but ash and the blade that was held to [L/n]'s neck melted and dripping down onto her own skin, causing her own flesh to burn, but that didn't matter.
The man who was holding down Aizawa, the man who was so close to killing him, immediately tried shielding his eyes but it was too late as he fell backwards, completely unable to see anything but black. The mans previous green eyes were now a solid white.
[L/n] rushed towards Aizawa, stumbling slightly as she did so and fell to her knees aside him. "Aiza—" She halted when he pushed himself up from the ground, immediately placing one hand over his heart, his eyes, for the first time, weren't just emotionless, they were scared, they held an amount of terror that made [L/n]'s heart clench.
Aizawa stood up, [L/n] following suit. While he was still startled he kept a calm composure, per usual, and he looked at her expectantly, though she didn't understand why. The males eyes scanned her for just a moment, taking in the cut on her neck that luckily hadn't gotten too deep, and then the burn streaks going down her chest and stomach from the hot, liquified metal that slid down her skin, parts of her upper hero costume that no longer existed and were on the ground as nothing but ash.
"Hit me." Aizawa spoke plainly, his eyes now locked on her [e/c] ones.
"Um, I'd rather not—"
"If it weren't for me, we wouldn't be in this situation. We could've died."
As [L/n] drew her arm back he was prepared for a slap, but that's not what he received. Rather, he saw a bright, cheerful grin arise to her face as she pulled him into a highly unexpected hug. "As heroes we'll put ourselves in danger every time we see someone in need of help, whether it's in the day light or in the shadows of the night. Besides, we're alive, aren't we? And our Quirks do work well together!" [L/n] beamed, Aizawa being taken completely off guard by what just happened and how she reacted to it.
After that, Aizawa wrapped the two in his capture scarf and he and [L/n] took them to the police and explained what happened. The next day, they met up with their teacher who had been told everything, and they found out that the two villains they had run into the night before were responsible for kidnapping infants and turning them into soldiers depending if they liked the Quirk they developed, if not, the child was killed. The last thing the teacher said before classes started was: "You two, Ersaerhead, Lightbringer, are a perfect example of how conflicting Quirks and even personalities can be stronger together than Quirks that work together by default."
"That's right, [L/n] hates the darkness, she's scared of it. She also would've come out into the open by now if she hadn't found anything." Aizawa then cursed himself for not realizing this sooner and sped up his search for his partner. Not any longer than a minute later he saw what appeared to be an abandoned bar and something on the ground. Quickly approaching the object he found it to be [L/n]'s headpiece, the shaded goggles she always wore atop her head despite now always wearing sunglasses. Before he had the chance to leap up and enter the bar through the window, he choked after hearing an oddly vulgar sentence.
"Get your hands off me you crusty ass bastard!" Aizawa immediately launched himself in through the window to the bar, but by the time he was inside the only person remaining was [L/n], and the moment he saw her arms he was fueled with anger.
"Who the hell did that?" He asked, crouching down next to her and turning her around so she was on her back instead and laid her head on his lap. The skin on Lightbringer's arms seemed to have decayed, leaving her muscle and flesh exposed.
[L/n] gave Aizawa a grin, though he could see the pain behind it. "I don't even know. I was looking in here and next thing I know I—I can't see anything. There was a moment when I got a glimpse of a man with crusty skin, but other than that all I saw was black." That's when he also realized her sunglasses were gone, but not on the ground, just gone.
"C'mon, let's get you to the hospital. Wounds like that won't heal on their own." Aizawa stated, picking her up and standing up before getting them out through the window and using his capture scarf to get her goggles and lay them on her stomach as he carried her.
"Hey Shouta." [L/n] spoke while being carried, Aizawa getting used to her going back and fourth between using his first and last name. "Remember that time I saved your ass in high school?" She asked with a small chuckle and light hearted grin.
"Yeah, and you could've killed yourself doing that, you didn't know if that woman could've slit your throat the second you started running your mouth." He stated flatly, recalling the event yet again.
"Well, I just wanted to say we've come a log way since then, mentally, physically, and personally. I wanted to thank you for showing up when you did, the crusty man would've killed me if you didn't show up when you did. So thank you." [L/n]'s voice was soft, a tone she didn't use often. Aizawa found himself sighing as he walked through the hospitals doors, nurses immediately taking note of the Pro Hero's condition.
"I didn't save you, your arms were practically decayed and you were trapped. If I saved you, you wouldn't have gone through any of that at all."
"Oh stop being all gloomy, for someone to be saved they have to go through at least a little something first."
"Yeah, and ever since we've worked together, even night patrol in high school, haven't you realized you always get hurt?"
"And haven't you realized that we always win—" The heroes eyes closed as a nurse gave her a sedative and Aizawa placed her on a hospital bed in the ER.
"Go home Eraserhead, you need sleep." The nurse stated while looking at his more-tired-than-usual stature. The man simply shook his head.
"I'll be waiting outside for news." With that, he walked into the Waiting Room and sat down.

This was written when I apparently couldn't count and didn't understand that Enji and them were CLEARLY from different years... So uh, don't mind that please :)
