Evie, Theo, and Cosette remain in the kitchen. Their emotions all warn from the difficult situation they're in. Evie and Theo need to get out of Ethera, a world full of special creatures and magic, and Cosette needs to find a way to help them do that without getting caught.

The silence is interrupted by a horrid gasp. Cosette stands from her kitchen chair. Shock paints her face. Evie and Theo stand up with her, asking if she's okay.

"My boys!" Cosette shrieks, "I have forgotten about my boys." Cosette starts to run through the rooms of her house. She calls out the names 'Dozier' and 'Conway'. Evie and Theo exchange a confused look. The distressed sheep woman comes back into the kitchen. A palm on her forehead and another on her waist.

Theo starts, having an idea of who her 'boys' might be, "Er, are you looking for two sheep?" Theo mentions how two smaller sheep had attacked them in the backyard. Theo also admits how he locked the backdoor so they couldn't get in. He shifts around his chair uncomfortably, realizing how terrible it was to trap them outside.

Cosette doesn't say anything but races to her back door. She unlocks the door and looks around her backyard until she hears a sniffle. A little boy in blue overalls sits on the grassy ground. He sniffles while wiping his nose with a dirt-covered hand. Cosette's heart breaks at the sight. She had forgotten about her kids! She looks around for the second kid to see a sad sheep sitting under a shaded tree. Both boys raise their heads when their mother calls out to them.

The sheep morphs into a kid, identical to the other one, before running to his mom's arms. The other toddler does the same. Both twins hold onto Cosette's legs. She apologizes and explains to them that they have some special guests at the house.

"We know, we fought them," One of the boys states while sticking a proud thumb into his chest. The other little boy continues, "They were so scared of us! We ran into their legs until they locked us out here." Cosette strokes their white, curly while listening to their story. She had no idea they had a run-in with Evie and Theo.

"I'm so sorry that happened to you, Dozier and Conway, but those people are our friends now. They are in some trouble so can you help me protect them?" Cosette apologizes and tries to reason with her children. Two wide smiles spread across their faces. Both boys nod before swearing to protect whoever is here.

Evie watches Cosette come back down the hallway and into the kitchen. One child she has never seen before is in her arms, while an identical one hides behind her ripped skirt. Cosette puts down the one in her arms and the two little kids stand together, nervously watching her and Theo.

One of the boys speaks, "We're sorry we attacked you," he says full of shame. His twin nods along. They switch between looking at the ground and studying the human's faces.

Evie smiles at them. "Well, that's alright. You had scared us a little." They don't respond to Evie but instead look at Cosette.

"Who are they?" One of them asks. "Why do they look so weird?" He steals another peak at the humans. Theo makes eye contact with the kid before the little boy flinches away from him. Cosette chuckles while fixing them a snack at the kitchen counter.

"Dozier and Conway, this is Evie and Theo. They are our guests. They are also humans so we'll be helping them until they go home," She explains when cutting fruit. One of her kids takes in what she has just said while the other screams.

"Humans? Humans aren't allowed in our world," He protests. Cosette calms him down and explains that everything will be okay.

The other little boy bravely goes up to Evie and Theo. He looks at them for a moment, wondering why they look so plain. And why the boy has cracked glass over his eyes. A curious question pops into his head that he needs to ask.

The little boy slides himself into a chair at the same table as the humans. His twin brother watches him from where their mom stands. His little legs don't touch the ground so he swings them nervously while the humans look at him.

"Are you two dating?" The little boy asks Evie and Theo. Their eyes widen in shock. For a moment the little boy regrets asking that. Maybe humans don't have relationships with each other. That was a stupid thing to ask. But, the girl laughs softly at the question, soothing the kid's nerves.

Evie giggles while looking at Theo and then the boy. "Nope, we used to date when we were younger, but not anymore." The little boy smiles at the humans.

"Why did you break up?" The kid asks innocently.

Cosette calls from the kitchen counter, "Dozier! Don't ask those kinds of questions." The sheep boy nods slowly. For a moment, there was so much light in his eyes as the humans were talking and answering his questions.

"No, it's alright," Theo responds to Cosette. He turns back to Dozier. The little kid can't help but ask questions. Theo used to be like that when he was younger. He also had parents who would tell him to shut up instead of answering him. Theo continues and answers the question, "We were younger when we dated. Then we got older, and Evie said we were better as friends." He rushes out the last part, not looking at Evie.

Slowly, the other little sheep-boy comes over to the table. He's cautious when he approaches them and slides out a chair. He doesn't say anything just yet but listens to the conversation. Cosette brings over bowls of unique-looking fruit for all four of them. Evie eats the fruit and is shocked at the flavor. It tastes like marshmallows but has the texture of a strawberry.

"What was the fruit you gave us earlier?" Theo turns to Cosette. "The one that made us understand your language." Cosette gives a brief nod before taking out a similar fruit from the kitchen basket.

"This is a Polygrape. The seeds have been magicked so everyone in Ethera can understand all the languages without learning them. The fruit usually lasts two weeks before you need to eat another." While Cosette explains and while her two little boys happily eat their fruit, the front door opens. Cosette's face falls from a calm expression to stress. She excuses herself before rushing to the front door.

"Dad is home!" Conway squeals before jumping up out of his seat. He skips to join his mom at the front door. Dozier stays with the humans. Unlike his twin, he senses the potential conflict. Evie looks at Theo. Hopefully, Cosette's husband is okay with humans. They've had enough reactions today. Evie's hands come together to nervously fidget.

The front door slams closed. Conway runs back to the kitchen, his lips trembling before he hides his face in his hand. "Daddy isn't happy," Conway cries out. His twin looks at him nervously. Cosette's brave voice fills the hallway. She had immediately told her husband about the humans. Her voice is overruled by a deeper, and furious voice.

"There are no humans in this house, Cosette. I'm tired of your lies," the husband's grumpy voice accuses. Heavy footsteps come closer to the kitchen. Cosette tells him to wait and calm down, but he has already reached the kitchen. The husband freezes at the doorway once his eyes find the two humans. Evie and Theo return the same reaction once they see Cosette's husband. He doesn't look like the rest of the family.

For the most part, he looks human, but with different features. Her husband is a bigger man with a large chest. His cropped hair is a striking blue color and his ears are pointed like an elf would have. But what catches the eye the most is the long, almost transparent pair of yellow wings connected to the back of his shoulders. They are not like a bird's wing or a butterfly. This is something more elegant, something magical that the humans had never seen before.

The man's stare is hot. Theo tries to avoid his face while Cosette tries to calm him down. Theo tries his best to not look nervous and to stay calm. But it's kind of hard to stay calm when you have a weird fairy-man that is dressed in jolly-rancher colors, in front of you. Evie reaches for his hand and squeezes it, warning him that she's scared.

"Orion. Listen to me. This is Evie and Theo. We need to help them," Cosette pleaded to her husband while gripping his arm. Her curly white hair flops from side to side while she shakes her head. Her two little boys have thankfully moved to another room. It's hard for them to see how distressed their mother is.

Orion stiffly turns to her. His jaw is tight while he speaks, "Where in this world did you find humans? How are we supposed to help them? We could get imprisoned for this kind of stuff. Don't you realize how dangerous this is?" His voice is level but full of concern and a tiny bit of frustration. Evie and Theo stay silent while the two adults talk it out.

Orion eventually lets go of some tension. Can you blame him? His wife brought two forbidden people into their house. He's going to be surprised. Cosette introduced Evie and Theo to them. He briefly talked to them and figured out how they got to this world. It's a tough situation they are in, and he now understands why his wife is so passionate about helping them.

"We're going to have to disguise them," Orion declares while looking at their human form. Cosette agrees and asks him if he could help craft some sort of costume for them. Orion takes this in and continues, "Yes, I'll be able to make something. But, we also need a cover story. Perhaps I can make sheep suits and they can be your cousins. Despite the fact they can't turn into sheep, I think that cover-up will do."

"I'm sorry," Theo interrupts, "But what are you?" He asks Orion. Theo tried to keep that question to himself, but it jumped out of his mouth. Orion looks a little taken aback, but he explains how he is a Fae.

Evie perks up, "Can we get Fae costumes then? Your wings are so beautiful," She studies his wings. She wonders if he can fly with them because they look so thin. While Orion is sitting in his chair, his wings have been tucked to the side. They moved so loosely and no damage was made in the process.

Orion shakes his head while reaching for a discarded piece of fruit left by his kid. "No, Fae has certain powers that I don't believe you two will be able to fake. It would make things much more complicated."

Cosette adds, "The Fae are also a taller species, despite your world knowing them as being small. I'm sorry, but you two wouldn't be able to play the parts of a Fae at your ages and heights. But trust me, being a sheep is wonderful." Orion nods his head and tells them their costume will be made very shortly.

Theo lets out a big breath, overwhelmed by everything. "Now that we have that figured out, how are we going to get another crystal to the human world?" Evie agrees with his question. They desperately need that crystal to get back home.

"Well," Cosette hums, "I know a trusted person who will help us out with that, but it's getting pretty late. In the morning, I will explain the next part of our plan. Orion, can you set up two beds in the living room? I need to go check on Dozier and Conway, but I will be back to say goodnight." Cosette stands from the table and goes to find her kids.

Orian shows the humans to the living room. They stand close together, kind of scared of how huge the Fae is. Orion enters the living room and notices the closet door open. The same closet where they hid and Theo got stuck in a trap. Orion asks what happened here.

Evie looks to her feet before answering. "Er, sir, there was an incident that happened earlier. They did mess with one of your traps, but it's okay since Cosette fixed everything." Orion relaxes once again before taking out two folded blankets from the closet.

"Oh good. I knew I should have put those goblin traps in a different place. I was afraid my kids might have gotten into them," Orion explains.

"Did you say a goblin trap?" Theo looks into the closet where Orion stands and looks through bed supplies. Theo spots the bag of traps he fell into and got unlucky with.

"Mhm," Orion answers while trying to fold a sheet back up in a small space, he struggles slightly. "Those little monsters love getting into our crops. Though Cosette says their frog-like legs are cute, I think they are better in a trap."

Evie sits on their very comfortable couch. It's almost like her whole body sinks into it. "Did you say frog-like legs? We had encountered a monster who had those when we first landed here. Didn't we Theo? It also had these two big fangs and ugly green skin." Orion listens to her description and tells her that it was, in fact, a goblin that had chased them.

It took Orion a little while to set up the cots, but he did it. Evie and Theo sit on their guest beds while watching the moonlight creeping through the curtains. After Cosette said goodnight to them, they didn't go to sleep for a while.

The two faced each other on cots while whispering about their thoughts. Some tears were shed, and some jokes were made to lighten the mood. However, both Evie and Theo knew that they had gotten into a terrible situation and needed to find a way back home quickly.

Theo tugs his blanket near his chin. He looks different without his glasses on. A quiet laugh comes from his lips, and Evie asks him what is so funny. Theo refuses to share his memory, but Evie has convinced him. "Well," he laughed to himself, "Do you remember when we were dating and tried to share a bed because we were trying to be more like a couple?"

Evie immediately throws a pillow at him. "I thought we agreed to never bring that up again. That's so embarrassing! It sounds so disgusting now, we just wanted to sleep together, but it sounds like we were trying to do something... else." Evie buries her pink cheeks into the bed.

"And it didn't even work because you are such a blanket hog," Theo adds.

"I am not! At least I didn't rotate like a rotisserie chicken every two seconds."

Theo chuckles, "Well too bad, because I still do that. Have fun getting sleep tonight."

Both Evie and Theo did eventually get sleep. After some more tears and some more jokes. Each minute brings them closer to another day, and each day brings them closer to getting home. Or at least that is what they hope.
