I Hope So

"I'm sorry, I got.. to, uh..." I stuttered, trying to find the right words. "I've got to go."

"Be back soon, darling." She said, an icy tone to her voice. She walked out of the room.

My heart was racing, and and my lungs were pounding against my chest. I raced throughout the dark and rocky caves. My hair was all staticky from the panic that soared throughout my veins and body. I exited the cave to the vast and watched the sun fade. I took a breath. I felt so nervous to go back to the Black Swan's hideout. Why? I don't know. Maybe it had to do with telling the others. Just maybe.

As I leaped to the base, I dashed inside. Sprinting though the halls I ran into someone. My vision fogged as I fell to the ground. I looked up to find a strawberry-blonde boy looking at me. The one that gave Sophie my ability restrictor. His face was sprinkled with freckles and his eyes were a pleasant periwinkle. Surprised, I shocked him a little.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. Are you okay?"

Gathering his gadgets and gears he replied, "Yeah. You're Shay right?"

"Yeah," I grumbled, bending down to help him pick up his gadgets. He looked up at me, puzzled. "Why do you sound so, uh, upset about that?" I tucked a hair behind my ear. "Long story."

"Oh." He said, standing up. "Where we you coming from and going to in such a rush?"

"I- just follow me..." I didn't know his name. Yet.

"Dex. It's Dex." He smiled kindly and started to walk away. I ran up to him.

"Wait, Dex, do you know where Sophie and the others are? I really need to talk to them."

"Oh," he responded, "I was actually heading there. Wanna walk there?" He nervously fiddled  with his hands. I smile awkwardly.

"Sure." I reply, starting to walk forward. When Dex and I finally arrived in the room, Sophie, Fitz, Keefe, Tam, Linh and Bianca were all at a table. (I forgot to mention that there is no Forkle-twin in this AU) I sit down nervously. Sophie stares me down.

"What'd you learn? What'd you find out?" asks Fitz, breaking the silence. I never thought that this moment would come so quickly, but here I am now, about to reveal the truth to the whole gang. Here goes nothing.

"I found Gisela, and I was about to ask her about the initiative-" I was cut off by Keefe.

"Ugh, mommy-dearest strikes again. What'd she say?" He said, rolling his eyes but then eagerly urging me to continue. I breathed slowly in and out.

"She basically wanted to talk to me about the Lodestar, and she told me the basics, she told me that I had embellished powers, and so then I asked-"

"Wait," Linh cut me off. "So like an enhancer gave you better powers?" Her eyebrows knit together, confused.

"I'm not quite sure, but because of the Lodestar experiment, I have better and 'leveled-up' powers, more than any enhancer can do."

"Ok. Sorry, you can go on." She smiled and continued.

"And I learned something really, really shocking." I tensed my muscles, my mind turning into a maze of words, I couldn't find how to say it. I just couldn't. The fear and unknown engulfed me, like a human whale swallowing me whole. I looked at Keefe, with his hair ruffled and messy, his ice-blue eyes glimmered in the light. Keefe Sencen. My brother. Here it goes.

"I asked Gisela to tell me who my parents were, but at first she didn't give in." My voice quivered."So, I used the trick Keefe taught me. The altering emotions one."

An "oh- yeah!" came from Keefe, who was sitting next to Sophie and Fitz.

"And who're your parents?" Asked Sophie. "Your lucky Gisela gave in and told you them..." she almost seemed distant in another world. I felt bad for her, it seemed like she had everything taken away from her and I was probably some perfect alternate version from her. I had everything she didn't; a good amount of powers, blue eyes, and the opportunity of knowing my parents. To me, she had it good in some ways. She had friends, a loving family and no bad-guy  group to live with.

"My parents are.." I looked at Keefe nervously and then my eyes flickered to the floor. "Gisela and Cassius. I'm your sister, Keefe." The whole world turned upside down. Everything was going to fall apart from here I know it. My heart thudded against my chest, and my breath was shaky and shallow. I looked across the table to Keefe. His face displayed confusion and he seemed to be confused whether to be happy for angry.

"Explain it to me, please." Keefe finally uttered.

"I guess you were a failed attempt at Gisela's Lodestar Initiative. Then, I guess I was a successful one." I replied, avoiding eye contact with him.

"How old are you?"

"15."

"If I'm 16, your only a year younger than I am."

"I think so."

"Well," Keefe shoved his hands in his pockets. "I guess your my little sis, Shay." He smiled briefly. Finally. The reaction I was hoping for.

Sophie stood up. "I'm glad you two are happy, but we need to get down to work."

—————

After a long meeting and plan for another day of spying, I was getting ready to leap back to the dark cave that sheltered and hid the Neverseen from the rest of the elves. I was about to leap, but then I heard someone calling my name. "Shay! Shay! Hey- wait!" It was Biana, sprinting towards me. "Yeah?" I turned my head around to face her. "Get some good information, will you?" She laughed. "Bye, Shay." She walked back to the direction she came.

"Yeah, I hope so."
