Chapter 4: "So many questions"
Celia above
Rob POV
I haven't seen the slut for many days. I heard he is still on bed rest after having his son. Yep, he gave birth to a son; I heard from Dalton that he chose to name him Carson. Strange name if you ask me, but Dalton said that Kyle's mother was named Cara. Nobody seem suspicious that I asked about him; they think it was normal. After all, it was me who took him to the infirmary.
I haven't had any confrontation with Alpha, so I presume Kyle didn't tell anybody that I was his mate and I tried to reject him. Well, it's not that I care. Mating is something no one should interfere with but the said mates.
I'm already quite familiar with packhouse residents. Hank lives there in Beta's apartment, and all unmated omegas also live there, now from both packs, which made it a bit crowded. Plus Alpha's family, including Alpha and his human mate Hannah, Hayden Alpha's older brother and his twin sons James and Jason, Rosie, who is the stepsister of twins, and Luna. And, of course, the slut and his son.
Other warriors from my pack and I do our training and patrol duty with respect; Patrick, the Gamma of the pack, currently residents with some warriors from the Blackwood pack on the second territory doing the same as we do, getting familiar with the new environment. I try not to think too much about the slut. I'm so focused on my duties that Dalton keeps praising me very much.
So I'm not surprised when he takes me along with four other persons to check some suspicious movement one of our trackers noticed. According to him, he spotted the group of three hunters from the clan we have destroyed recently in the human city at the edge of pack territory. Alpha immediately ordered us to take care of it.
"So, what do you know?" Dalton asks as we arrive on the spot.
"At first was only one of them," the tracker says. "But later came two more, they for sure are in contact with somebody, they also keep observing the flat in that building. But I've noticed only a girl and a middle-aged guy there, but he sure is the hunter too. I know him from our last war."
Dalton thinks for a moment, but he didn't get to voice his orders because suddenly, we all hear the screaming coming from the flat the tracker has just talked about. Dalton mindlinks the orders, and we enter immediately. We don't have to care about being noticed; in neighborhoods such as this one, fights happen quite often, and everybody prefers to mind his own business.
As we get closer, the sounds of struggle and screaming for help get louder; as we enter the one-room apartment, everything is already in chaos. Two guys are kicking the elder guy lying on the floor; he coughs blood and bleeds from his abdomen. The third guy is punching a girl in the face as tries to shield herself. We quickly assess the situation; I come close to the guy and girl and yank him away from her, smashing his head on the wall; she immediately crawls in the direction of the older guy and wraps his hands around him. His two attackers are already dead, killed by my other companions.
Dalton goes closer to the bleeding man and the girl.
"I know that tattoo," he says, pressing his extended claws on the guy's chest where is a small star placed. "You are from Nightingale's clan. What are you doing here? Haven't you all, who survived, learned almost three months ago to stay away from our pack lands as far away as possible?"
"I deserted; they spotted me and wanted to punish me. She doesn't know anything. I just crashed at her place," the wounded guy manages to say.
"Don't lie. She has the same tattoo on her neck as you. Caleb, check the apartment fully!"
She takes a sharp breath, and he begs us just to take him and go, but as Caleb goes towards the closet, she jumps and runs in his direction. I immediately grab her and hold her still as she trashes in my hold, pleading for us to leave them alone.
Caleb opens the door, and I see two children wrap around each other, a teenage boy and a small girl, who instantly screams:
"Mommy!" and rushes towards us; she is fast. My eyes widen with surprise as I see her eyes shifting and her nails sharpen.
"Kathy, come here!" the girl screams, and the little one is next to her in a moment, wrapping her small arms around her waist and... snarling at us.
That's almost impossible; she must be a werewolf, but why is she here with hunters, and why has her wolf manifested so early? I know others have exactly the same questions in their minds right now.
Dalton presses his claws more into the guy's arms, who whimpers in pain:
"This child is one of you. She is one of your kind; please don't hurt them; none of them did anything."
"And why, my dear hunter, do you have a werewolf child with you?" Dalton keeps asking questions.
I understand him; something like that shouldn't have happened. Hunters are merciless when it comes to werewolves; werewolves are merciless when it comes to hunters.
"She is mine," the girl I hold still says. "She is my daughter; I gave birth to her."
Celia POV
Two months, barely two months of peace. My uncle's wounds got better, Danny stopped making his bed wet every night, but he still has nightmares, and Kathy got used to our new living arrangements. How did they find us, both of them?
First came hunters, later werewolves, and now we are all tied up in the van driving God knows where. At least they allowed me to put some bandages on my uncle's wounds, which get reopened during the fight. Two hunters are dead, but the last one, the one who attacked me, is not. I think I remember him. Jeff... was among my brother's circle of friends, and he was also there when my brother decided to punish me for treason.
I cry silently, I don't even try to stop as I hold Kathy on my lap with Danny holding me for dear life from one side. He pied himself again, but thankfully none of the present persons made any comment about that. Will I die soon? Will they let at least my daughter live? Will they let Danny go? He is almost 14. Maybe they still can see him as a child?
Kathy doesn't ask questions; after all, I raised her while always on high alert, ready to run away every moment, so she keeps quiet when I ask her to keep quiet.
The car stops, and we are in front of a huge mansion; I must say very beautiful; these jerks know how to build. That's for sure, I think, as we are dragged toward their pack's dungeon and placed in the cells. I with kids, uncle David, and my brother's crony separately. It's not the hotel, but at least it's clean.
"Mommy, where are we?" asks Kathy.
"Honey, I don't know, but I promise that I will do everything in my power for us to be safe, ok?"
"And what a fucking werewolf's whore as you can do; you are only good with lying on your back with your legs spread very wide!" I can hear Jeff's voice, but I don't respond; there is no point in that.
I hear the steps on the floor and the sound of the opened door, and four people go downstairs. Two I recognize, they brought us here, the other two don't. Both are tall and well-built, one blonde and another brunette, but there are some resembles between them, brothers maybe?
The blond one, who looks stronger, comes closer to our cell.
"Speak, Dalton," he says.
"Alpha," Dalton bows his head. "They are from Nightingale Clan, but that one over there, along with two dead ones, attack the flat the rest of them were hiding. The girl claims that she gave birth to the little girl. The little girl has a wolf, and it manifested already."
"Ok," Alpha says and enters our cell; I clutch Kathy tighter as he comes close to us. For a long moment, he just looks at us. I tremble. There is no point in hiding that I'm afraid; he is an Alpha; he can smell my fear for sure.
"I won't hurt you unless you give me a reason to. Please come with your daughter closer to me; I want only to sniff her and confirm something," he says unexpectedly gently.
I know I don't have a choice, so I step closer to him. I try not to shake too much as he takes Kathy's scent into his nostrils. He looks absolutely shocked for a moment before he says.
"Dalton, mindlink Hank and tell him to come here at once. What's her name?"
"Kathy," I say.
"And yours?"
"Celia," I whisper, not looking into his eyes. Never look Alpha into eyes, my granddad was saying.
"How long were you living in that place, Celia?"
"I was in that city for seven years; Kathy was born there. Please, all ties with my clan are served since many years ago; please let my family go," I plea because that is the only thing I can do.
"Who is the boy?" he points in the direction of Danny.
"He was in the clan, but he is only 14; he poses no danger to anybody. My uncle is wounded; I know you destroyed my clan and many others a couple of months ago; my uncle and Danny escaped during that time. Please, we will leave; just let us go."
"And why were you living away from your clan, Celia?"
"I got pregnant with a werewolf child; it was treason. I had to escape to have Kathy safely," I say, my voice shaking, there is no point in lying, and maybe they will pity us, pity me, and let us go.
"Serves you right bitch, Terry should've made sure you are dead! But don't worry; he is still out there; he can finish the job!" Jeff shouts from his cell.
"Hayden, make him shut up," says Alpha, and his brother immediately smashes Jeff's head on the bars making him pass out.
"Ok, Celia" Alpha turns his head back toward me. "Who is your girl's father?"
But I don't get to answer that question, at least not verbally, because the door to the dungeon gets open again, and a very loud growl echoes through the cells. Loud, strong footsteps on the floor, I raise my eyes, and I see HIM.
He is older, that is for sure, but still strong with large muscles; his face is no longer plain, and he is no longer a teenager. I can see the web of scares on one side of his face, the place I smashed the bottle. His eyes keep shifting between his dark ones and his chocolate ones, and I know that he recognizes me just like I recognize him.
"MINE!" he growls.
I know that look; that's how he looked at me seven years ago before he... God, how much more I will have to endure today! My breath gets rapid, my heartbeat increases, I fight the upcoming panic attack, and my legs shake as if they were made of jelly. I can't lose consciousness now; Kathy and Danny need me. But I'm scared, I'm so scared, why him, why now, God, please no, I don't know how much more I can take!
But HE doesn't get to come closer because Alpha shields us.
"Hank, submit now," he says in a strange raspy voice, and HE snarls and seems to be struggling before he bows his head.
Alpha takes a deep breath, comes closer to HIM, and puts his hand on his shoulder.
"That child's smell makes it obvious. But that girl Celia is absolutely terrified of you. I think both she and her child had enough for a day. Go for a run now until you will have your wolf and emotions under control; I'll see you in an hour in my office. Hayden and Rob take those three to the packhouse and lock them in one of the guest rooms. Celia, my mate, and my brother Kyle will feed you and check if you and the kids are alright but don't try anything stupid. Dalton, make sure that her uncle's wounds are taken care of and prepare both him and that jerk over there for interrogation. I have so many questions."
