#5 Unique Skill

Some of the quests were simple enough, some of them were as simple as chores, picking up trash or gathering simple herbs from the forest. At times, it was pretty simple because as soon as she found the herb she looked for, the moment she leaned down it started blooming quicker, which made things more simple as it was a large enough herb to call it a job well done. Every time she completed a quest she would get paid the usual amount, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on how nice enough the people were.

She wondered if the guild needed a tax for the money, so the first time she brought her payment to the guild, and Seal had to explain to her what was fine. "So when we accept offers, they rank the difficulty of the quest and take a fee to hang it up in our notice board. So we already get the money before others get to it. Depending on the rank, the higher we get paid." It was a simple enough concept, one she was happy enough to keep the money as it was slowly accumulating.

Looking through the notice board, hearing some small grumbles behind her, she swished her tail and grabbed one rank higher than the normal one she had been grabbing. Turning towards the administrator's booth, she gave a small giggle at Seal, who was looking a little overwhelmed at the amount of papers in his arms. "Klara where do I put these." He groaned out, going from folder to folder, "Looking frazzled Seal." Alex said, pushing her arm against the desk, her hand laying on her face with a small smile spreading. Seal looked behind him quickly and his smile lit up the room. "Alex! How was your mission?" He ran up towards her, the papers still in his hand, as she gave a nod. "It was good, It was a little quick. I wanted to go for another." placing it on the desk, so Seal could look at it, he hummed.

"Oh Fire crystals, I remember that cave, such a long time ago." He hummed as she blinked and tilted her head. "You have done this before?" Seal nodded his head as he started placing the papers onto another desk. "Yeah, I'm an adventurer too, you know." Alex shrugged, it only made sense, everyone seemed to be one. Seal grabbed the stamp and stamped the paper before giving her a small word of advice. "There used to be some nasty stuff in that cave, so be careful." She made a face at that as Seal immediately held up his hands, "But it's been cleared out! Lio was the one to do it." Seal grumbled that last part while Alex frowned, the dejected look was present on his face at that.

"Well.. Wish me luck, Maybe we can get some food at the inn sometime?" She offered as he looked up curiously, his eyes shining in happiness. "Really? That would be nice! Sara's inn right? She makes the best food." Alex agreed wholeheartedly. He gave a silent look down, his face going a little red. "I-is t-this a date?" He asked curiously as Alex opened her mouth and almost closed it like a dazed fish. "Um..." She trailed off as she saw the sad look immediately appear on his face. "Yeah, why not." She said, immediately pushing down the rejection... Alex was in a different body... this was something she had to get used to... besides, it's not like girls were throwing in her previous life... Not to mention, Seal was one of the few people on her list of people.

Pushing that down she gave a smile towards him, seeing him smiling really brightly, he turned his head as he picked up papers. "Good luck on your mission, Alex!" As he happily went back to the folders, his hums reaching her ears while Klara who was in the booth next to them could only shake her head. "Now he's going to be humming all day." Alex could only giggle as she turned towards the paper. "Fire crystals huh." Alex hummed, walking out of the guild hall before stopping, turning to her right, Lio was leaning against the guild wall as she walked up to him curiously. "Hey Lio!" He turned over briefly at the call, as Alex pulled down the cloak from her head, a shy smile on her face.

He gave a nod. "Alex, how was your mission?" She shrugged, "It didn't take that long, so, I'm going on another." She showed him briefly as he nodded, grabbing his own and showed it to her, "I'm going on a cave exploration with some people. Apparently there were whispers of high class monsters in that area." Alex looked at him in awe, learning that Lio was one of the top ranked guild members was always something she wasn't ever going to get use to, the only time she saw him fight though was when Terra tried to strike her the first time... "You seem happy." He said with somewhat of a straight face.

"I am, I'm exploring and living my life, and apparently I have a date." She gave a laugh as she rubbed the back of her head. For some reason, though, Lio frowned. "A date?" Nodding she quickly responded. "When I come back, Seal and I are going to the inn to eat." Lio could only nod silently before getting up. "Well, good luck on your mission... and try not to set off any of those crystals." She tilted her head, guessing that the crystals would explode? Shrugging her shoulders, she grabbed the hood and placed it back over her head. "See you at the inn later?" She asked as he gave a quick nod. "Of course." Alex's smile seemed to brighten over Lio who wasn't expecting it. "See you then!"

...

Alex wasn't so good at directions, so she kept asking around where the cave she was supposed to be heading too, and some people immediately knew which  one she was talking about. Apparently it was a dungeon of some sort of monster. They didn't specify what kind but it got Alex excited. All she has seen are drawings and some pelts of the monsters people talked about and she couldn't help but ready herself. The cave of course was cleared out, but who knows? Maybe new monsters came in!  After a few minutes walk she found herself at the entrance of the cave and she couldn't help but be in awe at the multicolored crystals that were in the cave.

"So these are the crystals that make the rune gems... just like the one Sara had." Looking at the paper for the directions. She just started digging with a small shovel she brought with her. The crystals were fairly brittle till they were refined so she had to get as big of chunks as she could. Not brittle enough to where it would fall apart in her hand but brittle enough to where she could snap it in half like a twig. Filling her bag with some red crystals she could assume were fire crystals, she looked around the cave, wondering what the others were... She saw a multitude of colors, Pink, Green, Yellow. "I wonder if I should grab some others too..." Shaking her head, if she needed them for later, she would come back for them.

She paused as her fox ears started to twitch on her head. Turning for a moment, she swore she heard something... and then again! It was faint, but she could distantly hear "Blop" sounds. She stood up, leaving the bag near the entrance of the cave, and grabbed a hold of the daggers against her waist. "Hello?" Walking forward she scanned the area of clusters of crystals condensed farther into the cave, luckily the gems had their own luminance glow to them that it was fairly easy to see.

Alex paused as she finally got to see what was making those noises... some familiar noises happening farther into the cave. "Oh... my god." It blopped right in front of her. "ITS SO CUTE!" A red slime seemingly jiggling about and jumping around. "They are as derpy as they were in our games. I wonder if they are kept as pets." She looked down at it curiously, before it jiggled in place... before a hole opened up and it shot out fire. "HUH!?" She dodged to the right as the fire was spat onto the ground, as she stomped on it, hoping to not let the crystals go off. "I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL!" IT was hysterical.

Alex grabbed the dagger and dashed towards it and stuck it in its gelatinous form, before it eroded away into a puddle. Giving a sigh she noticed a small blue orb that was left from the slime and picked it up. Using Appraisal on it, it said that it was a small mana core. She had heard of these as well, knowing that some of the accessories adventurers wore, were made out of them... she looked down at her armor, wondering how many were in it... "Unique skill activated" her eyes widened in surprise, compeltely forgetting about her unique skill!

Feastful blood: Absorbs monster's mana cores and gain random attributes from monsters. She didn't know exactly what it meant at the time but now she could check it out! She giggled in excitement before she saw more slimes coming her way... A yellow, a purple, a pink, and a blue. It seemed like they were corresponding to the colors of the crystals... just as she thought this a slime was sitting on a dark crystal and it slowly began turning to that color. "Do they absorb the crystals mana?"  She wondered, that would explain the arsonistic slime she just killed. Shrugging as she grabbed her daggers, she started dashing through them, slicing them all half way before stopping. "Unique skill activated..." It kept ringing as she ignored it all, the cores started to evaporate in her hands.

"Hopefully they aren't to important... I'll just make sure I won't pick them up if im with someone..." She thought before walking off... however as she passed different crystals, she didn't notice the fluctuating colors her hair was turning... Turning back for just a moment, she grabbed her bag and started walking towards her destination. "On to the next one!"

...

There were more jobs after she took up, hauling boxes of goods from one place to the next, delivering quick herbs for medicinal purposes, and then the last thing was to send some goods to the inn, which was why it was on the bottom of the list. She smiled as she wondered if Lio was home. Exploring the caves was what he usually got to do, but usually never yielding anything besides small talk over medium-sized monsters... Shrugging she hauled forward before pausing at the inn hearing a commotion inside. Going through the doors, she immeditely was glomped with a hug. "ALEX! Im SO GLAD YOUR ALRIGHT!" Seal said before looking over her quickly as Alex could only look on in confusion, looking around, she looked at everyone who gathered in confusion.

"What is happening." Seeing her confusion, he shook his head. "There was an incident, I thought you were hurt..." He paused as he looked down in sadness. "Seal... Tell me what happened. Where's Lio, he'll help us out." Alex gave a encouraged fist up before she noticed a man limping, dried blood against his head. "It's Lio, He needs help." She looked at him for a brief moment before realizing who he was... the guild member that Lio was going with... She felt her breath escape... before she steeled herself forward... shakily she leaned forward, her form pressing above the table. "Tell me where." The hood dropped, and her eyes glowed dangerously, her marks sharp as knives pointing towards the bridge of her nose.
