Unreachable Dreams

It was one in the morning, where everybody was sound asleep, but not them. They were dancing in the park, under the shinning stars, and waiting for the sunrise.

Eleanor Grace, bright blue eyes that reflects the sky, short black hair reaching her defined jawline, and her smile that only expressed happiness and love. Her outfit of the night was a black sleeveless gothic dress with a grey corset halter. No shoes, letting the wind and the arms of her dancing partner guide her, having the sensation that she was flying in the heavens.

Blake Connors, dark brown eyes focused on the blue ones, slick back black hair, having a grin on his lips indicating that he was enjoying himself. With a standard black and white tuxedo, and a black bow tie. Lifting his partner in the air, he couldn't find the right words to describe how special this moment was for him.

Exhausted, they decided to lay down under a tree, their backs on the ground, and using the exposed roots for their heads, to rest.

"Never thought dancing would be fun and exhausting." Said Eleanor between heavy breaths.

"Yeah." Blake took a deep breath. "It was amazing too."

Calming their breathing, they decided to look between the leaves and branches to observe the stars while holding hands, and leaning their heads to one another. Enjoying the view and the company of each other.

After the small rest, they decided to take a stroll through the park. While conversing and enjoying nature, they kept their hands together. Feeling the warmth that brought a sense of nostalgia, like they couldn't believe it was real, hearts beating fast as a galloping horse, and smiles that never faltered. Their eyes locked to each other. Never looking away, they couldn't help but see the shine in their eyes, like if they were looking at the stars themselves. 'I want this night to be forever.' They thought simultaneously.

Finishing their stroll, they came across the same area that they once danced. Though it happened minutes ago, they smiled at the memory. On the other side, there was a fountain that had a pillar holding four dolphins shaping a heart no matter which side one is standing, and water spraying from the middle and through their nasal septum. They decided to head towards the fountain, and Blake had an idea. He put an arm on her back, the other on her legs, and picked her up. Carrying her bridal style, they shared a laugh while Eleanor lightly hit his chest for sweeping her off her feet. They reached their destination, and he gently lowered her so she didn't hurt herself.

Once she touched the ground, there was a tremor. A tremor became and earthquake. The trees shook violently making the leaves fall, the fountain became a pile of debris, and the ground started to crack and break around them, leaving no way to go. Seeing this, Blake held Eleanor within his arms, and she accepted his protection. Lifting his head, he kissed the side top of her head to let her know that he was there and never leave her side. The ground underneath them opened, and they fell to the darkness.

==================================

In a cold sweat and gasping, Blake woke up from the nightmare. Putting a hand on his forehead he said: "Same nightmare!" Gripping his blanket and moving it to the side, he got out of the bed with tears running down his cheeks.

After doing his hygiene and getting dressed, he walked out of his house, straight to see Eleanor. He wanted, needed, to talk to her. It was the only important thing that he must do. Reaching his destination, he looked at his shoes. Fidgeting in his place, he did not know how to start. With a deep breath, and an assuring nod, he lifted his gaze.

'Always loved, never forgotten.'

He took a knee, took out a rose from his coat, and replaced the old one at the base of the tombstone. This was his visit number thirty, and it would be his last. He decided to say his final words for her, so he can move on and let her rest in peace.

"I had a dream where you and I were dancing at the park. We were laughing, joking, holding hands, having fun!" He was smiling, and letting tears roll down his cheek. "But it was just a dream. A dream that never happened because I wasn't brave enough to tell you how I felt about you. You were the only one that accepted me, loved me for who I was. You were the one who gave a spark and a purpose for my life. And for that, I am grateful with all my heart." He stood up and said his goodbyes. "Rest in peace Elie. You were a dream that I didn't reach."

The End
