Chapter 20: Hockey Game

Since Cyrus and I kissed, we have not left each other's side. He even started to sit at my table at lunchtime. Anna's face was hilarious to watch when Cyrus began to sit with us. I could tell Kavin was a little bugged by Cyrus's presence. Someone was a little jealous.

Cyrus and I were not officially dating. We have only kissed. After we kissed in the hallway that day, Cyrus wanted us to take things slow, which was fine since I only decided to let him into my world.

As I walked to drama class, I was reading a book very engrossed into the book. I could feel everyone looking at me when I entered the classroom. Did I look stupid today? I look down at my clothes to see if I spilled something on my clothes. Nope, there's nothing. Just my black ripped jeans and my cut-up metal shirt on. Whatever. I thought as I walked up the steps to where I usually sit.

As I sat, all my bracelets jingled so loudly. I close my book and start digging out my drama book. I notice by the corner of my eye chatting people glimpsing at me and whispering. Okay, it's not my imagination. I look over to Emma. "Why do people keep looking at me?"

She looks up from her papers. "I think people heard about you and Cyrus. Since he has been hanging out around you a lot lately."

"We are not dating. We are just...friends. They like each other more than friends with no title."

"They don't know that. I think rumors have been floating around the school."

"It has not even been a week!" I explained.

Emma just shrugged. "Just ignore them. It will quiet down over time."

I nodded. Emma is right. People will eventually shut up.

I noticed Cyrus coming into the classroom. He waved to me as he walked to his seat. I waved back. Has Cyrus seen people talking rumors about us?

After class, Cyrus was waiting for me by the doorway. "Lunnaaa," he smiled. I smiled back shyly.

"Are you going to go to the hockey game this weekend?"

"I did not know there was a game this weekend," I answered.

He chucked. "You don't follow all the games even though there is a player on the team you like." he teased.

"Hahaha, like I have time to keep track of all the games on top of keeping track of my band practices."

His eyes widened. "That's fair. Can maybe one day I go to one of your band practices?"

"Oh, you don't want to go to band practice. It could get boring as we change songs and setlist."

"I would not think it's boring. I get to watch you play the guitar."

I could feel my cheeks feel a little warm. "I have to ask the band first if it's okay, but it's fine with me."

"Heck yes!" he announced, smiling. "I forgot what I wanted to ask you. Can you come to the hokey game this weekend? I would like you to be there." he shyly says in the last part.

"I don't have any plans this weekend. I can probably go. Is it a home game or away?"

"It's an away game. It's at Mountain View High."

"Oh, cool! My band members go to that school."

"So you will come?"

I make a face. "Sure, why not? Sounds fun."

"Cool! I will see you then!"

"Cyrus! Come on, man. We are going to be late for practice." Finley says as he passes us in the doorway. Cyrus looks down at his watch. "Shit, his right. I got to go. But I will see you at the game!" he smiles.

"See you then." I waved to him as he left me alone in the doorway.

"Are you guys going to the hockey game this weekend?" I asked the group as we stood in the school's main lobby.

Kavin looks up from his phone. "Sorry, I can't because my family has plans this weekend. I wish I could go to the game. It's going to be a good game! Mountain View High has a good team."

"Oh, too bad for you." Anna joked at Kavin. He scowled at her. "Can you even go, Anna?" he snapped at her.

Her face dropped. "No, I can't go. My grades have not been great. I have a couple of tests next week that I need to study for this weekend. My parents will kill me if I fail them." she whined.

Kavin then chucked. "See, you can't go either. Don't give me shit if you can't go either!"

Anna sticks her tongue out at Kavin. "Do you need some help studying?" Kavin asks.

Anna stops sticking her tongue out at him. "Yes, are you saying you will help me study!?" she beamed. "Sure, why not? I can't let you fail. If you fail, your parents may ground you again. Then we can't hang out." he says calmly.

Anna's face gets a little flushed. "Thank you."

Man, Kavin, and Anna genuinely have something going on that none of them will admit. I look at Emma. "Are you going to the game?"

Emma moves her eyes from Anna to me. "Sorry, I can't. I need to work on my robot for the next competition that's coming up soon."

"Now that I think about it. I never seen any of your robots."

"You should come to the robotics club sometimes. I can show you what I am working on."

"That would be awesome. I would love to see your robot children."

"Emma's robots are very cool." Rachal chimes in.

"Rachel, do you want to go to the hockey game with me?" I ask, holding my hands together as if asking for something important.

"I can go, only if we get food after the game. Also, try not to gush over Cyrus the whole time." she jokes.

I smile. "I will try my very best not to fangirl over Cyrus. We can get any food you want after the game."

Rachel fists her hands. "oh yes, dinners on Luna!" She beams.

"Why is this school so confusing?" I declare. Rachel and I are lost in Mountain View High. We followed the signs to get to the hockey game but got lost and ended up in the cafeteria. Which, by the way, does not smell good. I wonder if their food is terrible or just lousy meatloaf from Friday still lingered in the lunchroom.

"I will text the band chat to see if someone can save us from being lost."

"Good idea." nodded Rachel. Rachel, for once, had her hair down, which is rarely down. She's wearing our hockey team shirt, dark jeans, and slip-on checker vans.

I had half my hair pinned up. The other half of my hair kept flying in my face. I had a dark red shirt that matched our hockey team's color. I had a black mesh top under the red shirt. Then, my black ripped jeans with my lace-up boots.

I pull out my phone to text the band chat as I am about to send the text. "There you are, Luna."

I look up to see Chase and Alice. "We had a feeling you would get lost, but not this lost." chucked Chase. Chase was wearing a black shirt with a nice jacket. He also had his hair slicked back. I had never seen his hair like that; I almost did not recognize him.

"We followed the signs to the game."

"The signs around the school are very wrong. A lot of the students here like to move them for fun and make people lost in the school," said Alice. Alice had her hair up in two high pigtails. She had her usual black choker. Alice was wearing a pink and black shirt, which is not a sports theme. She is wearing cat leggings and her cute short black chain boots.

"That's very obnoxious," Rachel responded by making a face she makes when she wants to beat up a person.

"Welcome to Mountain View High, where half the students don't care," Alice laughed.

We started to follow Chase and Alice to the hockey rink. "How did you know where to find us?" I questioned as we made our way down some stairs.

"Just a lucky guess," Chase answered. Alice shrugged. "Yep, we just guessed you were lost, so we thought we would run into you somewhere in the school."

"I was about to text you guys when you found us." We arrived at some big doors. Chase pushed them open to see a bright light that showed a hockey rink. "Then we found you at the perfect timing." Chase smiled.

Inside the hockey rink, it was full of people from both schools as we walked to the bleachers. I saw a fire red-haired girl I know way too well. "There you guys are!" Rain boomed from up the bleachers. She waved an arm.

We slowly made our way up the bleachers to reach Rain. "We found them in the Cafeteria," Chase told Rain when we got her. We scooted past Rain to the empty seats by her.

"Did you follow the signs? Can never trust the signs in this school." chimed a bottled blonde girl. She had a horror movie shirt on with jeans.

"Yes, we followed the signs, but no one told us not to follow them." I laughed.

"So typical of people to be dicks." A girl answered. She sat next to Rain.

I look at Rain. Rain's eyes light up, realizing the lost expression on my face. "Luna, this is Abbi. Abbi, this is Luna. She is our new guitarist in our band."

"You're the killer guitarist I have heard about. Sorry you had to come all this way for a hockey game to our shitty school." Abbi chucked.

"Killer guitarist?! I am not that good." I wave my hand. "Luna, you are outstanding! Have more confidence in your playing!" Rain stared at me.

"Next time you guys play a gig, I must go." Abbi, wicked.

"Totally. Maybe we can even get food afterward." I smiled. That's when Abbi reached across from Rain to grab my hands and looked at me as if I were a superhero.

"I would love to get food with you. You beautiful human."

I chucked, "You seem cool."

"Abbi is very cool." Rain adds in.

Abbi lets go of my hands and moves her attention to Rain. "Of course, you think I am cool." Abbi grabs Rain's chin to have her looking at her.

I felt like I was watching something very private, so I turned my attention to the ice rink. The teams were now doing warm-ups on the ice. Rachel nudges my shoulder. "There's your boy." I follow her gaze to see Cyrus doing warming-ups, up and down the ice.

Cyrus's hockey uniform looked all clean and ready for the game. He stepped off the ice and then took off his helmet. His hair is slicked back from sweat. Shit he still looked good even when gross and sweaty.

Then, the sound of the buzzer snapped me out of my trance. The sound of the game is about to start. What the others have told me about the Mountain View High hockey game was also good. Even though they have not won a game in a while, we will see how this game goes.

Abbi pointed out that many of her school's team guys are very hot. I got the feeling she had slept with some of them. I don't know much about Abbi yet, but I bet she has her reasons. I am one not to judge people right off the bat.

The hockey game was very intense. By the time the game was halfway done, it was a tie. The referee called a time-out with 20 minutes left on the clock. Everyone looked exhausted. Cyrus looked like he could pass out or give up. I was watching him closely as if he could win the game. They need two more points, and they will win the game.

Rain was screaming and cheering next to me. I did not know she was so into hockey. As I watched Cyrus, he looked up from the ground and started looking around. There's no way he could see me this far away, but then again, Rain is screaming next to me.

Then, just then, I swear he was staring in my direction. It only lasted a few seconds before he was called back onto the ice, as the game was down to 10 minutes. My school got a point. They needed one more point to win.

Down to 3 minutes, Cyrus had the hockey puck. He somehow got past three other players and scored a goal! The buzzers went off, marking the end of the game. The whole team surrounds Cyrus in a victory team hug. Half the crowd lost it, celebrating Rose Hill's win.

After the game ended, we all made our way out of the ice rink. We all stood there in the parking lot. "That was an excellent game!" beamed Rain.

"It was delicious watching those boys bend." Abbi licked her lips.

We all laughed. "You guys want to go out and hang out more?" Alice asked.

I looked at Rachel and then back to them. "We can't. Our curfews are soon."

"You guys have curfews booo." Alice joked.

"It seems like a different vibe at Rose Hill." Abbie teased.

"A Little. Hopefully, I will see you again soon, Abbi." I smiled.

She gave me a half smile. "Most definitely." she gave me figure guns. I laughed.

"See you guys!" Rachel and I said our goodbyes.

Rachel and I slowly walked our way to Rachel's car. "Did you enjoy seeing your boy play tonight?" she teased.

I rolled my eyes. "Yes, It was a good game. Even though I did not talk to Cyrus tonight."

"You can talk to him on Monday. Rachel smiled. At least we found the ice rink. I was worried there for a hot sec, and we would not find it."

"To be fair, I thought we would also not find it. Thinking we were too stupid and not going to the game." Then we both started laughing.

We were about to get into Rachel's car. Then I freeze to hear my name being called. I turned to see it was no other than Cyrus. He was with his team. They must have just walked out of the school. Cyrus looks at his team member, "I will catch up with you guys."

"I will wait in the car," Rachel announces.

"Thanks, Rachel. I will only be a couple of minutes."

She nodded to me, giving me a little smile. Then she disappeared into her car. I turn to face Cyrus." Congrats on winning the game."

"Thank you! I saw you during the game. He smiled. I told you I could find you in any crowd, no matter what."

I could feel my cheeks blush. "I am so happy you came to the game. I think you may be my lucky charm at this point. Maybe you are blessed so that you could bring me luck."

"Hahah. If I was lucky, then all my dreams should come true." I joked.

"Well, some of those dreams will come true with how crazy talented you are." He smiled.

I felt shy all of a sudden. "You should probably catch up with your team members. You need to go celebrate your big win."

"I should go, but I wanted to see you. Thanks for coming." Then, before I could respond, he leaned forward and kissed my cheek. Then, he slowly moved close to the front of my face. Everything was still as if the world was frozen. Before I could let him lean in to kiss me. I looked up at him, leaned forward, and wrapped my arms around his neck, giving him a hug. He was still, and then he wrapped his arms around my back.

We stood there for a minute before I pulled away. Cyrus let go of me. "I need to go. I don't want to be late for curfew. You need to go catch up with your team."

He nodded. "I will see you Monday." He started to turn around to leave but stopped in his tracks to face me again. "Luna, can I have your phone number? I just realized I don't have it." He rubbed his hand and threw his hair, looking at the ground with red cheeks.

I nodded, "Yes, you can have my phone number." he handed me his phone. I put my phone number in, and I had his phone call mine so I would have his phone number.

Then I handed him back his phone. "Here you go. Now you can reach me ever you want." I joked.

He took his phone from me. "Thank you. I will text you. Most likely stupid memes." he laughed.

I laughed. "Night Cyrus."

"Good night, Ms. Luna."

Then I got into the car, and Cyrus returned to his teammates. Rachel looked at me dumbfounded. "Did you give Cyrus Jackson your phone number?!"

I had a little smile on my face. "Yes, yes I did."
