The Return

5 months later

It seemed like it was only yesterday you were swinging on red ropes and climbing up impossibly large furnishing. You were reminiscing all this lying on your bed, wondering when Yarny would be back.
He said it would be soon. But - when is soon for him?
It had already been five months, and you had gotten bored of having a normal life after a only week had passed. Things just weren't as exciting as they once had been, now that you had experienced the impossible.
You were at your friends house, and while she was babbling about some movie or something, you were thinking about Yarny.
"Y/N? Y/N! Hey are you okay?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah, just thinking."
Chloe, your friend, squinted in suspicion.
"Are you sure?"
You were both sitting in her room playing a board game together, and somehow the topic of conversation had drifted to Chloe's favourite Marvel Movie, and she had started ranting about how it was ages til the next one.
"Chloe, how do you find someone if they've disappeared?"
She stopped and raised her eyebrows.
"...go to the police?" She said in a small voice. "Wait, who's missing?"
"No, the police won't be able to help,"
You trailed off and started thinking again. There was an awkward silence.
"Y/N there's something I need to show you. You've gotta promise not to tell anyone." Chloe said abruptly. "It's a secret."
You frowned at her apprehensively. What was this leading to?
"Okay... What are you gonna show me?" You both stood up and she sat you down on her bed so she could go get whatever she wanted to show you.
She was gone for about 30 seconds before returning with her hands behind her back.
"Ready?"
"Yeah?"
And she slowly brought her hands around, revealing what was standing on them.
It looked just like him.
It almost could have been him if it wasn't blue. Oh, and it had really big ears.
Chloe was holding a blue version of Yarny and it was freaking you out.
"WHAT. How?" You muttered, eyes wide. You stood up and took a step forward.
"Please don't scream - he's not scary and won't hurt you, I really don't want..."
"Shut up!" You held out a hand. "It's okay, I'm not gonna freak."
"Thank goodness. You're not startled at all?"
"Listen, there's something I haven't told you yet. I've met one of them before."
Chloe's jaw practically dropped to the floor.
"You've seen another one of Blue?"
"Blue?"
"Yeah, that's what I'm calling him."
"Well, yes I have, and his name is Yarny."
At this Blue's ears perked and his eyes shone. He turned to Chloe and nodded.
"Looks like they know each other." She said excitedly. "I can't believe this - wait - is that the phone?"
You both ran down the hallway and Chloe picked up the phone.
"Hi? Oh, Mrs (Y/Surname)." She handed the phone to you and you took it with hesitation.
"Mum?"
"Y/N, I want you to come home right now. I have told you ten times in the last two days to tidy up your room and you still haven't done it."
"But I did-"
"No arguing, thanks. Say goodbye to Chloe and come and do this."
"Kay, Mum." You groaned, handing the phone back to Chloe and she added an extra "Bye!" Before putting it back.
"What was that? I've never seen you agree that easily to anything!" She smiled and elbowed you.
"Yeah, well. Apparently I haven't done what she's asked, when I did, so, I don't know what she's talking about. Maybe it's a code for something."
"Spooky," Chloe shrugged. "Well, see ya round then."
"Yeah, bye." And you headed for the door.

"Y/N I expected better than this from you. You handled us going away and being on your own well enough, so I thought you'd be able to at least listen to me."
"Alright, alright, I'm sorry! I don't even know what it is I've done!"
"What do you mean, you don't know? I specifically asked you to clear up your room before the guests get here."
"But I-"
"No buts!"
You sighed and it turned into a groan. You and your mum were standing in the entryway 'discussing' the problem.
"Fine, I'll go and- clean up, then!"
You were sure you had already put everything away, and there was really no point in doing it again. But, nonetheless, you climbed the stairs and swung open your door.
That's when you practically died because your heart stopped for so long. You took in a shakily excited breath and grinned.
Red wool. Everywhere.
It trailed from the window, across shelves and cabinets, only to disappear behind your computer on your desk.
"Hello?!" You rushed over and tilted the computer forward.
He looked up with wide eyes in a 'Sorry!' Kind of way.
"What happened- I'm so glad to see you again!" You held out your hand and he climbed on.
"I hid." His voice again, filling your head. It was apparent that communication was a thing now; you didn't know why it wasn't before, but now you could talk, the only problem being Yarny's not-so-good vocabulary. He spoke in fairly short sentences.
"Yeah, I can see that." You smirked. "Are we going on another adventure? Do you want me to destroy another picture?"
"What? No! A friend's in trouble- or about to be."
"A friend- another... you?"
"Yes."
"Blue?"
"You know him?"
You smiled and put Yarny down on the bed. "Chloe, my friend, she found him."
Yarny's gaze drifted.
"Can't speak for much longer."
"Why not?"
"Link fading." You didn't really know exactly what that meant, but assumed it had something to do with you coming with him on his adventure.
"You mean, like- how it's been ages since we last met?"
He half nodded and stood up. He ran over to the desk and climbed up the side of it.
"What are you doing?" But you got no answer. "Is it gone already?" He nodded. "Wow, that was fast."
Yarny found a notepad in a drawer and grabbed a pen. He began scribbling with the oversized tool, filling the page with ideas. After he was done, he stood aside and you picked it up to read it.
'Lots of us everywhere. All around the world. Some captured by evil. Portals only allow two of us. I don't count now. You made me. You don't count, you are human. Blue and Red need our help.'
That's what it said, in very short and limited sentences.
"Okay..." you thought for a second. "So Blue... and Red... need our help to rescue a bunch of other friends?"
You got a happy nod from Yarny.
"I'll just put everything back first."
So you tidied up your room and got all the wool untangled, and Yarny nimbly climbed off the desk, onto the bed and on the ground, then out the door.
"Wait! You can't-"
But he was already out there. You jumped up and ran after him, catching him in the hallway stopped and looking back for you.
"Please don't be seen." You demanded with a hint of a grin. His eyes sparkled and he took off down the stairs.
When you caught up with him he was waiting for you in the lounge room. He gestured for you to come down to his level, and he pulled the notebook and pen out of your hands.
'Lighthouse?' He wrote, gazing up expectantly.
"You mean Sallow Lighthouse?"
He nodded excitedly. "Well, I guess we can go on my bike,"
'Blue and Red will meet us there.' He wrote again, and you picked up the pad and pen and put them in your pocket.
"What are we gonna do about your yarn trail? I don't know where it starts and it won't last to the Lighthouse."
Yarny looked like he just realised that.
"Hang on, Ive got an idea." You ran to the craft room and came back with some scissors.
His eyes widened and he took a step back, at first not liking the idea.
"Hey, it's okay, we can just tie it to something later on."
He still was unsure. He seemed to think about it for a second and his ears perked slightly. Seeming to sigh he stepped forward again in agreement.
'Snip!' And his trail was cut.
"Time to leave, then!" You stood, letting him climb onto your hand. "Mum, I did what you asked, I'm- going back to Chloe's!" You lied.

You and Yarny were now standing outside Sallow Lighthouse in the rough wind. Yarny was perched on your hand gazing up at the Lighthouse and you started walking towards it.
"Sure does get cold out here." You zipped up your jacket and hurried up.
When you reached the door you had sudden doubts about doing this, even though you'd been waiting for five months. What if it's as dangerous as last time? What if it's worse?
Standing in front of the door was like buying something really expensive; you know you want it but have doubts as to whether it's worth it or not.
You were pretty sure the old Lighthouse had been abandoned years ago, and no one had lived here for ages.
The door was already opened ajar, so you swung it all the way open and entered, walking into darkness, ironically. It wasn't pitch black, but it was still fairly hard to see inside.
"So? Where are they?"
Yarny shrugged and gestured to look around. You tentatively stepped over some fallen pieces of timber and an old lantern. Everything in there was aged and dusty.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw a light. It was faint, but it was white. You whipped around almost flinging Yarny off your hand. But, it wasn't a thug, and it wasn't a policeman; it was a portal about the size of your head. And in front of it stood two other creatures like Yarny; one you recognised, but the other was a lighter shade of red than Yarny and had two longer ears with a spike in the middle. You noticed their yarn trails were joined in the middle.
Yarny looked up at you - proudly, you thought? You smiled back and looked back at the portal, only to just catch a glimpse of Red and Blue's backs disappearing into the light.
"Guess we should follow, then, hey?"
He jumped off your hand, which was a long way for him, and caught himself in the air. He swung like Spider-Man again into the portal.
Now you were the only one left. It was entirely up to you; whether you risk your life to help your friend or stay safe in your normal size.
It was obvious what you chose.
The light enveloped you as you passed through it, into a whole new world.

Thank you all so much for the support you have given me in writing this story. I have really enjoyed creating it, and have greatly appreciated the feedback I have gotten.

The End.
