Chapter Three

Suddenly, I heard someone behind me say, "Excuse me," Recognizing the voice, I turned around and found that it was Clover. And that she was a fox with sea foam green fur, (With a lighter shade of mint under her stomach, and a darker shade on her paws and the tip of her tail), deep blue eyes, and flower crown, which matched her eyes.

She had ears so big they could that she could support a purse hanging from them. Her tail was long and fluffy, it looked like it'd be hard to keep up all the time. And she was much taller than a normal fox, too. Her head (without the ears) reaching up to my hip.

"Oh, you look nothing like I thought you would! Uh, no offense!" I blurted.  "Ha ha!" Clover laughed. "None taken! It's hard to offend someone like me!"

"I take it you're very bubbly?" I asked her. "Yep!" She replied with a smile. Clover hopped around me, her bushy tail following behind her. Her tail brushed past my legs once or twice, tickling my calves. "You don't look like the other OCs, you're much more..." Clover paused for a moment. "...flashy!"

"I-Is that bad?" I asked worriedly. "I don't think so, I've always liked bright colors. But I have a feeling that others OCs wouldn't." The cheerful fox answered.

"I know. I've already had a taste of what this world thinks of me." I said, my voice dropping in tone. "Well, I think you just haven't found the right people! Er, animals in this case."

I smiled at her joyful outlook on life, she seems so carefree, no worries about what others might think of her. It's probably a useful trait to have. This world seems so judgmental. "Hey J-Lee," Clover interrupted my thoughts. "Wanna grab some drinks with me?" "Uh, I'm not so sure, I don't really like going out to places like that." I replied.
Clover eyes went wide for a second, but then she went back to her slightly fanged smile and said, "Oh, I didn't mean we go to a bar! I just meant we go out into the city and hang out."

"...I'll think about it." I replied, timidly.
"Great!" Clover leaped into the air with pure joy. "If you decide to hang out, I'm just a floor above ya!" The green feline hopped off excitedly.

"Nope."

"Boring."

I sat in my apartment, channel surfing on the tv and looking for something good to watch.

"Absolutely not."

I finally turned off the tv. "There is nothing good on." I slumped in my couch, bored out of my mind. When suddenly I remembered Clover invite to hang out with her. "Hmm, is it really worth it to go out? I know people are gonna look at me funny, and I know that I'm just gonna end up really upset at the end of the night. But on the other hand, Clover seems really fun, and she's basically my only friend right now. Hmmm..."

Then I had the thought, "What if we just hung out at her place? Hey, that could work." I immediately grabbed my purse with my phone and money inside, (just in case) and ran out the door. 'I've actually been dying to get out of here.' I quickly jogged to Clovers, trying to avoid anyone on the way.

I was about to knock on her door when I had the thought, 'What if her apartments a mess? Maybe right now she's doing something that she wouldn't like interrupted? This was a bad idea, I wish I had asked for her phone number." Just then, the door to her place opened, catching me by surprise.

"Hey J-Lee!"

I almost jumped out of fear. "Geez, Clover! You scared the hell out of me!"
She looked at me with an apologetic look. "Ah! Sorry! I just picked up your sent through the door and decided to come out." I sighed. "It's fine, I just- wait, how'd you open the door with your paws?" I asked.

"Years of practice. But sometimes I have to use my mouth." Clover replied to my question. "I'll make a mental note of that, anyway I was thinking about hanging out." Clovers eyes lit up. "Really?? That's great! Lemme just grab my purse and we can head out!" The excitable canid almost walked back into her apartment before I said, "Wait wait wait! Actually I wanted to hangout here. In your apartment. With you of course." The fox blinked. "Here."

'That's what I said.' I thought. "Yeah."

"Well, sure. That sounds fine."

I sighed. 'Thank god.' I started to walk into my newly found friends apartment when she stopped me said, "But I'm not doing anything until we get something at this little café I know."

'Oh no, she's not talking about the café I visited yesterday, is she?'

But before I could try to ask my question, Clover had grabbed her purse and waving for me to follow her at the end of the hall.

We talked about multiple subjects on the way, such as: People she knows, shops we can visit, the supposed "hierarchy".

"Hierarchy?" I asked. "Oh yeah, this world is based off of looks, the better you look, the higher you are in the social standing." She said. I thought for a moment. "Who's at the top?" I finally asked.

"Isabelle Gosling. She's queen in the indifferent section. No one can stand up to her, her following is too big." She responded. "O-oh," I stammered. "Is she rude?" I questioned. "Yep, she's every high school mean girl rolled into one." "That sounds awful." I said. Clover shrugged as best she could, with her being a fox and all. "It is what it is. As long as everyone else is happy, I'm happy!"

Before I knew it, we had arrived at the coffee shop I'd visited yesterday. Clover started to push the door open with her paw. "Aw geez," I sighed. "What's wrong?" Clover closed the door. "I was here just yesterday, and I had a less than fun experience here." Clover pushed the door open again. "Like I said, you just need to hang around the right people/animals!" She moved out of the way for me to walk in.

I did so and stepped inside. Nothing had changed about it except for the customers. Even the barista was the same. Clover followed me before stopping and saying, "Oh, I forgot to ask! What drink do you want?"

"Hot chocolate." I replied.

"What kind of hot chocolate?"

I stared at her, perplexed. "There's more than one kind? Uh, I'll have, milk chocolate with tiny marshmallows, then. I guess."

Clover trotted up to the counter, stood up on her back legs and put her front paws on the counter for support. "Hi!" She smiled cheerfully. "I need one small hot chocolate. Milk chocolate with small marshmallows. And I need a strawberry milkshake, please."

I watched the barista put our order in the cash register as I sat down at a table in the corner. "That'll be 26.75." She said. Clover bent down and grabbed her wallet with her mouth. She took out 30 dollars and slid it over to the barista. "Keep the change." She said.

"Thanks." The coffee shop employee replied to her generosity. She put it in the cash register. "Can I get your name?" "Clover." The bright fox smiled.

"We'll call you when it's ready." The barista then printed out a receipt and handed it to Clover. Clover took it in her mouth and trotted back to our table. She climbed onto the chair and spat out the receipt. "Now all we have to do is wait." I said to her. "Waiting is the worst part. I want my strawberry milkshake ASAP!" Clover joked. I laughed a little at her eagerness. "Well, you'll have to wait a little longer."

5 minuets later, we hear Clovers name being called. I walk up to the counter, grab our drinks and say "Thank you." As I walk back. I set Clover's pastel pink milkshake with whipped cream down in front of her. "Thanks J-Lee!" She smiles at me before wrapping her snout around the straw and taking a sip. "No one does shakes like Coffin's Coffee."

I snickered. "Coffin's Coffee?" I ask. The fox spit out her straw. "Yeah, the founder of this place was named Coffin. But they took down the sign because it didn't match the vibe of this place at all."

"Why was his name Coffin? Who names a sweet little coffee shop Coffin?!" I threw my hands in the air for exaggeration. "I don't know why he called it that, but he was named that because he was a vampire, I think."

"Now enough talking let's just enjoy our drinks. Seriously, I didn't buy that hot chocolate for nothing." She pointed to the mug in front of me. "Oh, right!" I took a large sip and put the mug down. "Well? How is it?" The vixen asked. I smiled at her, thankful for her having done this for me and being the first person to show me kindness in this world.

"It's great."
