Fourth Life [pt.9]
With the first match of the exams over, a new problem arose for me.
It was time for the second match and yet Sasuke wasn't here, much to my annoyance. It seemed Kakashi wasn't budging on his reputation of being late, and I had no way of contacting him. I suppose it wasn't too much of a concern, whether he was disqualified or not. Not like the tournament was gonna last longer then the first rounds anyway.
I was obviously unable to hear what was being said in the kage booth, but their expressions made it clear enough. The Raikage was obviously annoyed but based on his actions I'd assume he wanted to delay the match, if only to give his own genin a chance to prove herself.
The Hokage's expression seemed perfectly calm and composed, despite that I knew he was worried over Sasuke. For him there was a possibility that Sasuke had already been captured. I knew from canon he would advocate for the match to be delayed.
When I looked to rightmost 'kage', he stared right back. His face was almost completely covered, yet there was no doubt he was staring down straight at me. I couldn't discern any specific expressions from his covered face that far away, but I could almost feel his intrigue towards me.
I seem to have peaked his interest, but I am still not his primary target. I am simply a genin with some interesting skills and knows a bit more then they should. The Sharingan is still worth much more to him then I am, and we both know that
It was a clear decision. As the Procter went to announce Sasuke's disqualification, he was tapped on the shoulder. The Konoha Jonin who had appeared whispered something into his ear then disappeared once more.
"Huh? Alright. The Kage have decided to delay this match for a few so they will be skipped for now. Next up then, Naruto Uzumaki versus Sakura Haruno! Please come down to the arena, and the match will begin." The Procter announced to the crowd as well as the participants. It took all of 10 seconds for Naruto to get over his shock at his opponent, weep over having to fight her, then get excited again at being able to show off all his cool new moves to her first hand.
Both of them were quick to make it down to the field, and after a bit of small talk I didn't pay attention to -mostly Naruto flirting and Sakura rejecting- the match began. It started off quick, unlike my first match. Naruto made the first move, shadow clones spontaneously bursting into existence at Naruto's hand sign. As they charged forward Sakura took advantage of the small time it would take for them to get to her. Within moments shuriken were flying, and though most blocked with kunai, a few lucky hits got through, popping a few of the clones.
While viewing the match from the competitors box, I was discreetly aware of the presence looming behind me. My response was a very slight, almost unnoticeable flinch when they placed their hand on my shoulder. Mentally jotting down the glint in their eye when I turned, "So he does get surprised. What a shock."
The witty comment was unsurprising, and having seen their own reaction, I turned back to the match. The other took that as an invitation and sat down next to me.
I looked down as they took a seat, noting how the pace of the battle hadn't changed much. Sakura was still dodging and throwing sharp objects, Naruto was still throwing an abundant amount of shadow clones at her, and the person next to me was yawning.
"Man, you'd think a match-up like this would be interesting." Was the bored remark from my companion.
"Sakura is eventually going to run out of things to throw, that's when things are going to get interesting."
True to my words, Sakura's endless torrent of kunai and shuriken came to an abrupt halt. She quickly fled into the forest as fast as possible once the shadow clones began encroaching on her.
Giving an inaudible sigh, I concluded that this match was going to be boring. I stood up from my place and made to leave.
"Not even going to bother watching the match?" Jade questioned, glancing back at me. I stopped for a moment, not looking back before speaking,
"Its quite predictable how it's going to end. They're going to have a small scuffle in the forest, Sakura is going to end up using genjutsu, a near guarantee considering her sensei, and while she goes to beat Naruto he's going to use the Kyuubi's chakra to break free and finish it, followed with a dramatic speech of some sort."
With my part said, I left the participants box, and made my way to one of the lower rooms of the spectators booth. While people were around, there were plenty of spare rooms large enough for what I needed that were completely unoccupied. Getting hold of the floor-plans and schedule of those working here had been easy, and with them I knew there would be a large room just down one of the halls ways that wasn't scheduled to be used for the entire event.
It was apparently some sort of storage area where they would store extra seats in case they were required, but the chairs themselves had been relocated to a more easily accessible room.
The door had no lock, and with two small clicks, I was inside and the door was once again closed.
Standing in the middle of the room, I began the same technique used during my match. The easiest way to grasp it would be as if a cloak was placed over me that masked every single part of my presence, though that was far from the actual truth. All that explanation would be is just a simple way of looking at it.
I moved through the hand signs and prerequisites to complete it without much thought put into it, my mind thinking about why it had finally succeeded this time around, when all the others had failed, even if by only a little.
It started off with the simple easily implemented parts. First off, invisibility. A moderately advanced jutsu, though one that already existed and was quite easy to learn once you got your hands on the hand signs required. Luckily Danzo had a scroll with it, though it had never gotten much use. There was no real point for a shinobi to learn the jutsu, as any ninja worth his weight would be able to sense their chakra anyways, and the concentration required to keep it activate was not worth any of the menial benefits it would give.
Next was my sound and scent, the easiest portion of the technique. Both had pre-established jutsus, and and it was quite easy to perform both. While the sound cancelling one was quite common, it was little surprise the scent cancelling was rarely used. As with invisibility, it took concentration to keep up, and was not passive. As such, when being pursued that concentration and chakra would be better spent on other things then disrupting their scent trail.
I popped a few chakra pills when my chakra ran low, I was putting far more into it this time than my previous match. This time needed to last much longer then before.
The final preparation was one of the hardest parts of the technique to figure out, and definitely the most useful. Complete and total concealment of my chakra. Every other part of the technique was required, but meant nothing if any sensor or dojutsu could simply sense or see my chakra. It had taken almost the full month of preparation in order to solve this issue.
It was obvious that I couldn't simply conceal my chakra as much as possible, as most shinobi did when they didn't want their chakra sensed. That was dependent on your skill in doing so, and even then a sensor of a higher skill, or any dojutsu would make it all a moot point. I would need to take a different approach. It had taken a bit of contemplation, but eventually I had a hypothesis. What if I simply sealed away my chakra inside of seals? It was quickly shown as impractical, as even if it were sealed away, my chakra system would still be there to create new chakra, and the Byakugan would still be able to see it. That line of thought led me to a better solution, and one I hadn't thought of before. What if I simply stored away my entire chakra network into seals?
At first glance it seemed stupid and implausible, sealing away my entire chakra network would simply kill me outright, because humans could not live without chakra. That was when I had my breakthrough. Sure, humans here couldn't live without it, but I was not from here. That was when I considered it, and realized the missing fine details involving my reincarnation. While I was clearly now Basuto Hanadji, I had no idea whether or not my soul had entered and taken over his body, or mine had simply completely replaced his. Even if either were the case, it still didn't tell me if I could currently survive without chakra. The only reasonable solution? Experimentation.
I started off with only a very small part of my chakra pathway, a small part of it inside of my foot. Even if I lost it and it was gone forever, or at least until my next death, with proper precautions it would not be life threatening in any way. As such, I had no hesitation in sealing it. Surprisingly, there was little effect. Other then the pathway not being there anymore, everything felt the same. My foot wasn't dying, there wasn't any reactions. When the pathway was unsealed perfectly fine, I considered it a resounding success. I wasn't about to seal my entire pathway immediately, but it was definitely encouraging. After a few more tests, I had safely confirmed my entire pathway could be sealed away with little repercussions.
As a side note, I found it mildly concerning how many seals Danzo had in his possession, especially specific ones like sealing away complicated chakra networks and the like. It had become away to alleviate my boredom to see how obscure of a seal I could ask for, and whether or not he had it. After asking for a sealing scroll that specialized in storing away excess chakra from the prefrontal cortex I decided I probably wouldn't want the answer.
That out of mind, I still had no idea why my hypothesis had been proven true, whether my body was still be able to function as it did on earth or if it was something completely unrelated. I wouldn't know until my next run in with kami, and that hopefully wouldn't be for a while.
Of course, this led to a different issue. Without any chakra, I would have no way of maintaining the jutsus, making everything else practically useless. With that in mind, I used jutsu sealing scrolls in order to cast them for me while I was chakra less. They would only go on for as long as the chakra I gave them lasted for, afterwards the technique would end. As such before I could use the jutsu I would need enough time to cast and seal 3 separate jutsu, and how much time I spent pumping chakra into them directly correlated to how long the entire jutsu would last.
That also solved the issue of the void of chakra left in my wake. Everything in the world had chakra, be it the trees the animals, even the air itself was diluted with chakra. Normally that lack of chakra would be apparent where I was however with the jutsu being expelled from the scroll properly, the chakra being supplied would be no different from the chakra naturally filtering through the air.
Finally, that left one final issue, one I still hadn't solved yet, but was apparently resolved during my fight with Neji. All shinobi had a '6th sense' whenever they were being watched, be it feeling intent, or anything else of the sort. With my previous test trials using the jutsu, the target was not able to locate me, but were aware they were being watched. Anyone chunin or below would not be able to, but any good Jonin would be able to instinctively feel my presence. Of course, I had no doubt Neji would be able to sense that as well, as would the proctor have. Yet neither sensed me, and why was that? What was so different about this attempt that allowed that intent to be concealed.
I suppose this time I put my entire being, my entire soul into not being sensed. All the other times I tried to bring down my intent, like how one normally masked their chakra. This time however, I didn't shove it down and try and make it nonexistent, I simply believed with all my soul that Neji wouldn't be able to sense it.
That must have had something to do with it. I didn't believe in the sentiment of 'if you believe enough in something it will come true', however this was different. Kami has mentioned the specialty of my soul the first time we met, what if my soul itself had covered my intent? Masked it with it's own presence, a presence undetectable by shinobi, or even things such as the Byakugan. It was rough, but definitely the most plausible explanation. For now though, I chose not to dwell on it. The technique was complete, and ready to use.
With all the jutsu stored, I activated both it and the chakra storing seal, instantaneously making me undetectable in every sense of the word. With my previous thoughts in mind, I also tried to reach out with my soul itself, something obviously unrelated to my chakra, considering if my theory was correct then I was using it without even having chakra.
With everything in place, I moved out of the room silently. It felt strange to be without chakra, all things considered. My limbs felt... heavier without that magical forcing granting them energy. As far as everything was concerned, I was back to being a simple non ninja-magic human. Thankfully with 16 of experience in that aspect, I knew my limits far more then most other shinobi would.
This technique normally only had about 30 seconds worth of juice, maybe a minute at most. This time however, I had pumped everything into it to make sure it would last a decent amount of time. Even when the jutsu finished and my chakra was returned, there wouldn't be enough left in the tank to do anything useful. From here until the end of the invasion I would be practically chakra less. Of course, what I gained from that far surpassed the costs.
I'd estimate this would last for at least 10-20 minutes, enough time to prepare everything required for this all to run smoothly, and avoid everything else in the process.
All the pieces were falling into place, and soon, Konoha Crush would begin in full.

Sorry for the four month wait, ive been waiting for this chapter to be edited.
Well, that was interesting to say the least. Definitely mostly filler, and an in depth explanation for this technique. As the title of this fic implies, this is probably going to be Bāsu's signature jutsu. I wanted to put all the facts involving it on the table now, so when stuff happens later I can use this as a basis. Everything given here are the hard facts of this, and I will not change them whatsoever. If Bāsuto or the enemy wants to work around them, they have to exploit the weaknesses in the technique itself. There will be no "ha, my eyes are powerful enough to see through such simple deception", I will give a valid explanation any time he's ever detected.
With that out of the way I'd like to say thank you for reading this chapter of Unnoticed, don't forget to vote comment and share! I'll see you all in the next chapter.
Thanks to my friends (Juicebox) pessimistic views, I was able to figure out the gimmicks of the jutsu.
