Chapter 8: How To Be Popular
~🫧~
For the rest of the night, Galindo bonded with Elphaba and (Name).
"Wait a second! You're telling me that was your first party? Ever? For both of you?" Galindo asked as he put his pink robe on.
"Well, yeah." (Name) said as she removed her butterfly hair clip, wearing her (favorite color) robe.
"Do funerals count?" Elphaba asked jokingly, making (Name) and Galindo laugh.
"That was funny!" Galindo chuckled as he sat on Elphaba's bed.
"Thank you." Elphaba smiled.
(Name) smiled at the two bonding as she took the (favorite color) flower Galindo had given her out of her hair and placed it in a vase of water.
"I couldn't remotely sleep!" Galindo exclaimed as (Name) plopped down next to him.
"Neither can I." Elphaba agreed.
Galindo gasped as an idea came to mind. "I know! Let's all tell each other something we've never told anyone before! Okay, fine I'll go first!"
Galindo took a long pause before taking (Name)'s hand.
"(Name) and I are getting married."
Galindo squealed and laid his head down on (Name)'s lap.
"What?!" Elphaba and (Name) exclaimed in shock.
"No, seriously. What?!" (Name) yelled. "You haven't even proposed!"
"One day I will." Galindo promised as he stared at (Name) with love in his brown eyes.
(Name) playfully rolled her eyes. "We'll see, pretty boy." She teased as she booped Galindo's nose.
Elphaba smiled at the couple.
Galindo stood back up and nudged (Name). "Now, you tell us a secret!"
(Name) went silent before letting out a sigh. "I...actually did think you were really cute when we first met."
"I KNEW IT!!!" Galindo squealed as he wrapped his arms around (Name), knocking her down on the bed.
(Name) squealed as Galindo kissed her all over her face.
Elphaba laughed and shook her head at the sight, they were so cute.
"Okay, okay, enough! I love you too!" (Name) wheezed as she pushed Galindo off her, making him laugh.
Galindo cleared his throat and fixed his hair a bit, turning to Elphaba. "Alright, your turn. Tell us a secret!"
"Like what?" Elphaba asked.
"Like..." Galindo perked up as he thought of something. "Like...why do you sleep with this little green bottle under your pillow!"
Galindo pulled out a small green bottle from under Elphaba's bed, making her panic.
"Give that back!"
Galindo smirked and jumped to his feet and held it high in the air out of arm's reach.
"I wanna know~" He teasingly harmonized.
"Give it back, please!" Elphaba begged.
(Name) laughed as Elphaba and Galindo fought over the bottle like siblings.
"GIVE IT BACK!" Elphaba suddenly shouted, making Galindo and (Name) go quiet.
"It was my mother's, that's all." Elphaba revealed as she put the bottle back under her pillow.
"Well, that's not fair. I told you a really good one." Galindo said before he walked over to his bed and flopped down on it dramatically.
(Name) shook her head at how dramatic her boyfriend was while Elphaba looked down.
"My father hates me." She revealed.
Galindo gasped and turned to his green friend in shock. "What?"
"Well, I hate him too." (Name) shrugged.
"That's not the secret." Elphaba added, ignoring what (Name) said. "The secret is...that he has a good reason."
Elphaba sat down in front of Galindo, (Name) joined the two and sat down next to the blond.
"It's my fault."
"What is?" Galindo asked as he scooted closer to Elphaba.
"That my sister is the way she is. When our mother was carrying Nessa, our father began to worry. That the new baby might come out..."
"Green." Galindo and (Name) finished.
Elphaba nodded, she had never spoken about this to anyone.
"He was so worried, he made our mother chew milk flowers, day and night. Only it made Nessa come too soon... with her little legs all tangled. And our mother...never woke up."
Galindo and (Name) took all of this in.
"None of which would ever have happened...if not for me." Elphaba looked down.
"But that was the milk flowers' fault, not yours!" Galindo insisted.
"Honestly, I blame your father." (Name) growled. "I never liked him before? But now..."
Galindo rubbed her back to calm her down, before turning back to Elphaba. "That may be your secret, Elphaba, but that doesn't make it true."
The three shared a smile before Galindo looked out the window and gasped when he saw the sun was rising and birds were chirping.
"Look! It's tomorrow!"
Galindo rose to his feet. "And Elphie..." The blond gasped. "Can I call you Elphie?"
"It's a little perky." Elphaba commented.
"I'm gonna call you that too!" (Name) grinned, loving the new nickname.
"I know! And I know I'm gonna call you that~" Galindo said in a sing-song voice as he pulled Elphaba and (Name) onto his bed.
"And you two can call me...Galindo."
"Sweetie, that is your name." (Name) stated.
"Let's not quarrel, darling." Galindo waved off, making Elphaba and (Name) chuckle.
"Elphie, now that we're friends, I've decided to make you my new project." Galindo revealed.
"Oh, you really don't have to do that." Elphaba assured.
"I know. That's what makes me so nice." Galindo grinned.
"Wait, does this mean I need a makeover too?" (Name) asked.
"Oh, no! You're already perfect!" Galindo assured with a smile before turning back to Elphaba.
"Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I..."
"And let's face it, right, who isn't less fortunate than I?"
"My tender heart tends to start to bleed."
Galindo pulled out a pink scarf and wrapped it around Elphaba. He brought her down on the bed, lying down with her.
"And when someone needs a makeover, I simply have to take over!"
"I know, I know exactly what they need."
Galindo sat straight up. Elphaba tried to sit up as well, but Galindo just pushed her head down.
"And even in your case..."
Galindo took off Elphaba's glasses, he gave her a smile before placing them back on her face. "Never mind."
"Though it's the toughest case I've yet to face."
"Don't worry, I'm determined to succeed!"
Galindo pushed Elphaba's head down so he could grab onto the chandelier, using it to spin around.
"Follow my lead!"
"And yes, indeed."
Galindo hopped back down to Elphaba and got close to her face.
"You...will...be..."
Galindo hopped up, and skipped over to his wardrobe case. He gave it a slap, and it popped open, revealing an array of garments.
"Popular!"
"You're gonna be popular!"
"I'll teach you the proper ploys when you talk to boys!"
"Little ways to flirt and flounce!"
"Ew." Galindo pointed to Elphaba's shoes, making her gasp. Meanwhile, (Name) watched Galindo sing with her legs criss-crossed.
"I'll show you what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair!"
Galindo opened another drawer full of shoes, he grabbed a pair of ruby slippers and threw them to Elphaba, who caught them in her hands.
"Everything that really counts to be popular!"
"I'll help you be popular!"
"You'll hang with the right cohorts, you'll be good at sports,"
Galindo opened another trunk and a pink ball shot out of it, he tossed it over to (Name), who caught it in her hands.
"Know the slang you've got to know!"
"So let's start, 'cause you've got an awfully long way to go."
Galindo popped open another trunk, revealing a bunch of accessories and jewelry.
"Don't be offended by my frank analysis,"
"Think of it as personality dialysis!"
Galindo tried different glasses and accessories on Elphaba, but none of them worked.
"Now that I've chosen to become a pal, a brother, and adviser,"
Elphaba gave a small smile with a pink bow in her hair.
"There's nobody wiser!"
"Not when it comes to popular!"
Galindo brought (Name) and Elphaba over to his vanity mirror, and all three of them did a dance with their shoulders in sync.
"I know about popular."
Galindo sat Elphaba down on top of one his trunks.
"And with an assist from me to be who you'll be,"
"Instead of dreary who you were."
Galindo stroked Elphaba's cheeks, making her smile.
"Well, are."
Elphaba's smile turned into a deadpan.
"There's nothing that can stop you,"
"From becoming popular!"
Galindo unloaded a stretcher and pushed Elphaba down on it, making her yelp and (Name) gasp.
"...'lar!"
Galindo sat down on a chair and slid around in the room as he threw his robe around.
"La-la, la-la~!"
"We're gonna make you popular!"
"This isn't going to work." Elphaba sighed as she got up.
Galindo gasped and sprung to his feet. "What? Elphie! You mustn't think that way!" He proclaimed as he strode over to her.
"Your entire life is going to change! And all because of me!"
"Just give him a chance, Elphie." (Name) begged.
"See! Even she agrees!" Galindo beamed.
"Come on!" Galindo pulled Elphaba out to the balcony, (Name) following after them.
"When I see depressing creatures,"
"With unprepossessing features,"
Galindo gestured to the Students in the quad.
"I remind them on their own behalf to think of..."
Galindo took (Name)'s hand and jumped onto the railing with her, making Elphaba gasp and concerned for their safety.
(Name) gasped in fear they might fall off, but Galindo kept a tight grip on her hand, making sure she wouldn't fall as he leapt into the air with her.
He then hopped back into the balcony. He grabbed (Name) by the waist and gently brought her back on the floor.
"Celebrated heads of state,"
Galindo ran back inside the room, holding (Name)'s hand. Elphaba hurried after the couple.
"Or especially great communicators!"
"Did they have brains or knowledge?"
Galindo picked up a book about great leaders of Oz and turned to a page showing a picture of a professor.
"Don't make me laugh!"
"They were..."
"Popular." Elphaba and (Name) finished.
Galindo gasped. "RIGHT!" He shouted, slamming the book down.
"It's all about popular!"
Galindo leapt in between two pieces of furniture, Elphaba and (Name) doing the same.
"It's not about aptitude, it's the way you're viewed!"
Galindo walked over to his vanity and pulled out his training wand, spinning it around like a baton.
"So it's very shrewd to be..."
"Very, very popular like me!"
Galindo harmonized a bit as he tossed his wand into the air. He held out his hand to catch it, but it ended up falling on the floor.
Galindo grabbed Elphaba by the wrist and pulled her over to his vanity.
"First, hair. We toss our hair." He instructed. "Ready?" Elphaba gave a nod in reply.
"Toss, toss." Galindo threw his head back, shaking his golden locks majestically.
"Toss, toss." Elphaba threw her black braids back, only for them to get tangled in her face.
Galindo stared at her. "That's a choice."
Elphaba rolled her eyes while (Name) giggled.
"Now, you try!" Galindo said to (Name).
"Uh, alright. I guess we're doing this." (Name) shrugged as she hopped off of the trunk she was sitting on.
"Toss, toss." (Name) threw her (long/short) (hair color) hair back, which was anything but graceful.
"Perfect!" Galindo cheered, clapping his hands.
(Name) smiled at the blond while Elphaba gave him a deadpan.
"Next, I'm gonna transform this simple...frock slash coat." Galindo picked up his wand and stared at Elphaba's outfit.
"This simple froat. Boop!" Galindo tapped his wand at Elphaba's chest. "Into a magnificent ballgown."
Galindo twirled his wand around then pointed it at Elphaba's outfit. "Ballgown!"
But nothing happened.
Galindo twirled the wand around again. "Ballgown!"
Nothing again.
"BALLGOWN!" Galindo yelled as he twirled the wand at Elphaba's outfit.
Galindo yelled in frustration and hit the wand against his trunk, making (Name) flinch.
He kept hitting the wand against his palm. "Come on! I'm counting on you!"
Galindo closed his eyes and waved the wand in the air as he harmonized. He began dropping slowly onto his knees.
Elphaba turned to (Name) and gave her a look as she gestured to Galindo, as a way of saying: 'Him?!'
(Name) just gave a smile and shrug.
"BALLGOWN!" Galindo commanded as he pointed his wand at Elphaba, backing up into a drawer.
"Seriously?!" Galindo fumed at the wand.
"Do you need my help?" Elphaba asked him.
"NO! Just wear the froat! It's pretty!" Galindo fumed as he brought Elphaba over to his vanity.
"Let's start a little smaller." Galindo took out a chair for Elphaba. "After you, Madame."
Elphaba chuckled and took a seat in the chair.
Galindo looked at his reflection in the mirror and gasped when he noticed a pink flower that was on his vanity in a vase.
"Just this." He took it and carefully pinned it in Elphaba's hair.
Galindo smiled as he admired his work. "Pink goes good with green."
"Goes well with green." Elphaba corrected.
"It really does." (Name) agreed with a smile.
Elphaba looked at her reflection in the mirror. For a moment she felt...pretty.
Galindo leaned down to her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Why, Miss Elphaba. Look at you. You're beautiful."
"Yes, she is." (Name) smiled as she leaned down next to them.
Tears built up in Elphaba's eyes.
"I have to go..." She whispered before exiting the room.
Galindo and (Name) ran after her into the hallway.
"You're welcome!" Galindo called after her.
The blond then looked at his reflection in the trophy case and smirked.
"Oh, hello. Wow..."
(Name) smiled at him before turning her head when she heard a door shut.
"And though you protest..."
"Your disinterest..."
"I know clandestinely..."
Galindo threw his robe up and began bouncing around the walls.
"You're gonna grin and bear it!"
"Your new-found popularity!"
Galindo let out a squeal before grabbing (Name) and began to dance with her all around the halls.
"La-la, la-la~"
(Name) laughed as she went along with his moves.
"La-la, la-la~"
"La-la, ooh~"
"You'll be popular..."
Galindo smirked and brought (Name) back inside their room and climbed on his mountain of suitcases with her.
"Just not quite as popular as me!"
Galindo dipped (Name) down, and the two shared a kiss.
