Chapter 4: What Is This Feeling?
~🫧~
A while later, Elphaba and (Name) had caught up with each other and searched for their new room.
Under different circumstances, the friends would've been ecstatic about sharing their room together.
But unfortunately, Galindo would be bunking with them, making them anything but excited.
Finally, the two girls found their room number and looked through the peep hole to see a brown eye staring back at them.
The door was opened by Galindo, who smiled at (Name), completely ignoring Elphaba.
(Name) and Elphaba stepped into the room, and noticed that Galindo's possessions were everywhere. Pink clothes, pink bags, pink everything.
There was only one side of the room that had lots of space open and no touch of pink.
"The rest of my bags should be arriving shortly." Galindo told the girls.
(Name) turned to Galindo with an incredulous look. "I'm sorry, there's more?"
"Do you really think this is fair?" Elphaba asked Galindo.
"Oh, I do not. I was promised a private suite. But thanks for asking!" Galindo smiled sarcastically.
Elphaba moved towards Galindo to get to the balcony door, only for him to cut in her path.
"Wait!"
"What?" Elphaba asked. "I was just...I was just going to close the door."
"Oh, do you mind leaving it open?" Galindo requested. "I so enjoy...air!"
"Seriously?" (Name) deadpanned at the blond.
Galindo just smiled innocently, making the (hair color) girl roll her eyes.
"I saved you some space, by the way." Galindo gestured grandly over to the large area on the right side of the room that hadn't been Galindo-fied.
"Oh, um, thank you." (Name) said as she placed her suitcase on the bed, unloading her (favorite color) clothes.
"It was nothing! Roomates do these things for each other!" Galindo smiled. "So I've been told!"
He stared at (Name) dreamily as she unloaded her clothes, almost like everything she did was angelic to him.
"Wait, what about me?" Elphaba asked.
"Oh, right." Galindo said, remembering Elphaba was in the room.
He walked over to a garment and pulled back some clothes.
"Here it is~" He harmonized. "Just in here!"
Elphaba looked through the garment to see a diminutive daybed next to a tiny table with one drawer.
(Name), who was curious to see, walked over and deadpanned when she saw the tiny area.
Elphaba gave Galindo a look, who only smiled at her.
"It's great." He whispered as Elphaba walked over to her bed.
"Once again, it was really nothing!" Galindo smiled as Elphaba sat on her bed.
Elphaba removed the curtains that covered the windows, making her cough.
"And in return, perhaps you could—let's see—put in some good word for Madame Morrible? Deal?" Galindo requested as he followed Elphaba.
Elphaba just ignored Galindo and removed some of his stuff, (Name) helping her.
"That was you down there who made all of that happen. I know that was." Galindo stated.
"You heard Madame Morrible." Elphaba reminded as she grabbed one of Galindo's suitcase, only for Galindo to grab the other side, stopping her.
"How did you do it?" He asked curiously.
Elphaba tried to tug the suitcase back, but Galindo just pulled it back.
"Tell me, please. I can keep a secret."
Elphaba just ignored him and rolled the suitcase away.
"Fine. Be that way. But it really is rather selfish on your part." Galindo chastised as Elphaba and (Name) took more suitcases.
"I asked really nicely, plus I saved you a drawer-"
"I DON'T KNOW! I'VE NEVER KNOWN!" Elphaba yelled.
Suddenly, the door slammed shut and the glass on it cracked, making Galindo gasp. He stared at it, then at Elphaba.
"There. Enjoy the air." (Name) stated as she walked over to her bed, Elphaba going to her own.
Galindo glanced at the two for a moment, before turning back to the shattered glass on the door.
~🫧~
All of the windows in the dorm room go out one by one as happy new roommates click off their lights for the night.
All but one.
By the glow of his pink Ozian lamp, Galindo wrote a letter to his parents by his bedside table.
He glanced over to (Name)'s bed, who was writing her own letter to her parents. Galindo smiled at her fondly, then resumed writing.
"Dearest, darlingest Momsie and Popsical..." Galindo muttered.
"My dear father...thank you for letting me stay." Elphaba murmured as she wrote a letter to her father.
"Dear mom and dad, you are not going to believe this." (Name) whispered as she wrote with her pen.
"Guess what." Galindo murmured.
"In regards to your request that I move in with Nessa..." Elphaba read her writing to herself.
"Elphaba is staying at Shiz with Nessa and I. And Elphaba and I are sharing a room. Sounds great, right?" (Name) muttered.
"I can't...hear...your guesses...because this...is...a letter." Galindo wrote.
"I know she wouldn't want me to—" Elphaba crossed that out.
"I know how much she wants to be—" Elphaba crossed it out again.
"You won't believe how annoying our roommate is." (Name) shook her head.
"So I'll just tell you..." Galindo glanced at (Name) again.
All:
"There's been some confusion over rooming here at Shiz."
Elphaba:
"But of course, I'll care for Nessa."
(Name):
"But of course, I'll be there for Elphaba."
(Name) rested her cheek on her fist as she wrote.
Galindo:
"But of course, I'll rise above it."
Galindo lifted his pen like a wand to emphasize the point.
All:
"For I know that's how you'd want me to respond."
"Yes, there's been some confusion."
"For you see, one of my roommates is..."
Galindo played with his pen, trying to think about how to describe his green roommate.
Galindo:
"Unusually and exceedingly peculiar, and altogether quite impossible to describe..."
"A boy." Elphaba and (Name) deadpanned.
All three roomates sign their letters. They placed their notebooks down and lay down in their beds.
Elphaba placed something under her pillow. Galindo, in his pink sleeping attire, turned on his pink lamp, annoying Elphaba and (Name).
Galindo laid on his back, (Name) laid on her left side, and Elphaba laid on her right.
Galindo:
"What is this feeling so sudden and new?"
Elphaba:
"I felt the moment I laid eyes on you."
Galindo, Elphaba, and (Name) tossed and turned in their beds.
(Name):
"My pulse is rushing."
Elphaba:
"My head is reeling."
Galindo:
"Yeah, well, my face is flushing."
All:
"What is this feeling?"
"Fervid as a flame."
"Does it have a name?"
All three sit up, experiencing a private, astounding revelation...
All:
"Yes!"
"Loathing."
They rise, energized as they put on their robes. Elphaba and (Name) come face to face with Galindo in the middle of the room.
"Unadulterated loathing."
"For your face." Galindo seethed at Elphaba.
"Your voice." Elphaba bit back.
"Your clothing." (Name) shot at Galindo as she pointed to his pink attire.
All:
"Let's just say, I loathe it all!"
"Every little trait, however small,"
Elphaba sped over to Galindo's side and turned off his lamp, pissing him off. This means war.
"Makes my very flesh begin to crawl."
~🩷~
The next morning, Elphaba woke up to find herself surrounded by Galindo's stuff.
"With simple utter loathing."
(Name) watched as Elphaba struggled to get through the pink barricade. She sent a glare to Galindo who was putting the final touches on his 'perfect' look.
"There's a strange exhilaration."
"In such total detestation."
"It's so pure, so strong!"
Galindo exited the room with a smug smile, and sent a flirty wink to (Name), making her scoff.
~🫧~
"Though, I do admit, it came on fast."
"Still, I do believe that it can last."
Galindo entered his dorm room with Pfanne and ShenShen to find his pink belongings now piled haphazardly on his side of the room.
"And I will be loathing,"
"Loathing you!"
Galindo handed his books to Pfanne and rushed out to the balcony to see Elphaba and (Name) reading books.
Elphaba and Galindo glared at each other before Elphaba exited the balcony, flicking Pfanne's glasses as she went about.
(Name) followed Elphaba, not before sending Galindo a wink with a smug smirk.
Galindo's face turned red.
"My whole life long!"
~📚~
Galindo confidently strides towards the dining hall as he clutches some books to his chest, as his many friends trailed behind him like ducklings.
Students:
"Dear Galindo, you are just too good!"
"How do you stand it? I don't think I could!"
"Oh!" Galindo cooed as he hit his books in sync with the Students.
Students:
"She's a terror, she's a tartar."
"She's a beauty, but she's snooty."
"We don't mean to show a bias,"
"But Galindo, you're a martyr."
"Well..." Galindo stopped at the entrance of the dining hall and turned to his friends.
"These things are sent to try us."
Everyone let out gasps of awe at the blond, making him smile as an angelic light shined over him.
Galindo and his friends entered the Dining Hall, and everyone turned their heads from the blond to (Name) and Elphaba who was getting their food.
Students:
"Poor Galindo, forced to reside,"
"With someone so disgusticified."
Elphaba and (Name) looked up from getting their food, to find Galindo and his friends all staring coldly at them.
(Name) scoffed and took Elphaba's hand, trying to find a lunch table.
Galindo frowned a little, he was planning to ask (Name) to sit with him. But he shook it off quickly and led his friends over to a different table.
Students:
"We just want to tell you,"
"We're all on your side!"
"We share your loathing!"
Elphaba, Galindo, and (Name):
"What is this feeling so sudden and new?"
Students:
"Loathing."
"I felt the moment I laid eyes on you."
"Unadulterated loathing."
Elphaba and (Name) kept trying to find a seat, but people keep sitting where they're about to sit.
"My pulse is rushing."
"Her face, her voice, her clothing."
Galindo and the Students cut their food with a fork and knife, making them clink as they held them up.
"Let's just say,"
"My head is reeling,"
"We loathe it all."
Finally, Elphaba and (Name) found a table to sit at, far away from the rest of the students.
The two girls looked at Galindo one last time.
"Oh, what is this feeling?"
~📚~
"Does it have a name?"
Galindo and Elphaba walked into a classroom, and noticed there was only one available desk.
The two rushed over to it like their lives depended on it.
"Makes our very flesh begin to crawl."
Elphaba and Galindo fought over the desk like a game of tug of war, only for another student to sit down on it. Elphaba and Galindo glared at each other.
"Yes, ah,"
~🤺~
"Loathing!"
At gym class, Galindo and (Name) fought each other with poles.
"Loathing."
Galindo was careful not to hurt her, but for (Name) it was the complete opposite towards him.
"There's a strange exhilaration."
"Loathing!"
Eventually, Galindo ended up making (Name) slip from how hard he pushed his pole against hers.
(Name) nearly fell on her back if Galindo hadn't quickly caught her by the waist, completely dropping his pole.
The two stared at each other for a moment, pink tainted on their cheeks.
(Name) finally snapped out of it and broke free of Galindo's hold, murmuring a thanks before getting back to fencing.
"In such total detestation."
"Loathing!"
~🤺~
And so, it went on like this for weeks.
Elphaba and Galindo fighting for a desk, Elphaba and (Name) sitting far away from the other students, Galindo trying to flirt with (Name), and most of all, tensions between the three roomates.
"It's so pure, so strong!"
"So strong!"
"Though, I do admit, it came on fast."
"Still, I do believe that it can last."
"And I will be loathing for forever!"
"Loathing."
"Truly, deeply loathing you..."
"Loathing you..."
As Galindo walked through the courtyard with his friends, he stopped in his tracks when he saw Elphaba and Madame Morrible on the balcony together.
Madame Morrible gave Elphaba a hug, touching foreheads with her, making Galindo's anger rise.
"My whole life long!"
~🫧~
"Loathing, unadulterated loathing."
Galindo entered the dorm room, relieved to find himself alone. Only for Elphaba to pop out of the door behind him.
"Boo!" She shouted.
"AHH!" Galindo yelped, making Elphaba cackle.
From her bed, (Name) snickered at Galindo's reaction.
Galindo couldn't even acknowledge how cute (Name)'s laugh was because of his anger.
