Chapter 1: No One Mourns The Wicked
~🫧~
"Glindo, (Name), how exactly dead is she?"
In a dark room, the only sound heard was the dripping of water coming from a bucket.
"Because there has been so much rumor and speculation..." A male voice like honey spoke.
"Let us tell you the whole story..."
The faint sound of cheering and bells could be heard.
"According to the Time Dragon Clock, the melting occurred at the thirteenth hour." A velvet-like female voice added.
"The direct result of a bucket of water thrown by a female child."
In front of a window, a black pointy hat sat on the floor in a large puddle of water. The water sizzled with smoke and sparks danced around.
"Yes, the Wicked Witch of the West is dead."
A bunch of monkeys with wings attached to their backs broke through the window and soared through the Land of Oz, shrieking all the way.
They flew through the mountains, not noticing a cloaked figure riding on a horse through the drawbridge.
The first rays of sun hit the waterfall, creating a rainbow.
Over the waterfalls, Dorothy Gale, Toto, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion walked down the yellow brick road towards the Emerald City.
Dorothy held the Wicked Witch's broom in her hand. Finally, she was going home.
~🧹~
A couple of Munchkin Children ran through the flower fields, making noises and waving ribbons with big smiles on their faces.
"Good news! The Witch! She's dead!" A Munchkin Boy announced cheerfully.
The Munchkin Children ran into Munchkinland, spreading the news that the Witch was dead.
Munchkins opened their windows and came out of their doors, big smiles on their faces at the good news.
"Good news! The Wicked Witch is dead!" The Munchkin Boy shouted as he rang a bell in the center of town.
Munchkins:
"Good news!"
"She's dead!"
Munchkins came out of their homes with joy. Munchkins ripped off posters of the Wicked Witch from a board.
"The Wicked Witch of the West is dead!"
"The wickedest witch there ever was,"
"The enemy of all of us here in Oz,"
"Is Dead!"
More Munchkins ripped off posters of the Wicked Witch with happy smiles.
Munchkins gathered around in the town center, celebrating the death of the Wicked Witch.
"Good news!"
"Good news!"
In the sky, a bright pink light shined and glimmered.
A heavenly male voice singed from it.
"Let us be glad,"
"Let us be grateful,"
"Look! It's Glindo!" A Munchkin shouted, pointing to the light.
The pink light seemed to get bigger and rounder, and got closer and closer to the ground.
The Munchkins got excited and began cheering and clapping.
"Let us rejoicify that goodness could subdue,"
The pink light turned into a pink bubble. Inside of it, was a male figure standing on a couch platform.
It was none other than the Good Witch of the South, Glindo.
Glindo was a handsome man in his twenties and had blond hair and brown eyes.
He wore a sparkly pink suit with a sparkly cape and had a silver crown on the top of his blond hair. In his hands, was a spiky pink wand.
"The wicked workings of you-know-who."
Glindo's bubble reached a platform. Using his wand, Glindo popped the bubble with a chuckle.
The Munchkins cheered and clapped at the Good Witch. Some Munchkins waved to him and some female Munchkins fawned over the handsome witch.
"It's good to see me, isn't it?" Glindo said, making the Munchkins laugh.
Glindo stepped off his bubble platform. "Fellow Ozians, let me set the record straight."
The Munchkins stared at Glindo in anticipation.
"Yes. The Wicked Witch of the West is dead." Glindo confirmed.
The Munchkins erupted into cheers, some clapped and others hugged each other.
Glindo:
"Isn't it nice to know,"
"That good will conquer evil?"
"The truth we all believe'll by and by..."
As Glindo watched the Munchkins celebrate, a deep pain grew in his heart.
"Outlive a lie..."
"For you and -"
"It's (Name)!" A female Munchkin shouted, pointing to a group of (favorite color) butterflies in the air.
Glindo grinned, he took out a compact mirror from his pocket and looked at his reflection in it, making sure his hair looked good for his darling.
The swarm of butterflies came close to the ground, and as they flew in a circle, the Good Witch (Name) appeared.
(Name) was a beautiful woman with soft-looking (hair color) hair, (skin color) skin, and vibrant (eye color) eyes.
She was wearing a beautiful (favorite color) gown with short puffy sleeves and a long flowing skirt decorated with butterflies.
Atop her head was a sparkly (silver/gold) crown. In her hands was a wand with a (birthstone) gem. (Name) smiled at the Munchkins as they all stared at her in awe.
Glindo approached (Name) and took her hand and kissed her knuckles. "My darling love, what brings you here?"
(Name) smiled at him and turned to the Munchkins.
"Well, I just couldn't help but join in the celebration over the Wicked Witch's death." (Name) answered, the Munchkins not noticing the crack in her voice when she said 'death.'
"And when I heard my lovely fiancé was here, I rushed over as soon as possible to celebrate with him."
Glindo smiled and kissed her cheek, making (Name) giggle.
"Aww!" The Munchkins cooed at Oz's power couple.
None of the Munchkins knew that the real reason (Name) was here was because she needed Glindo's shoulder to cry on.
Munchkin:
"No one mourns the Wicked!"
(Name) looked down sadly. Glindo wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close. He gently kissed her temple and leaned his forehead against it, holding back some tears of his own.
Munchkin Woman:
"No one cries 'They won't return!'"
"No one lays a lily on their grave!"
From a balcony, a Munchkin Man dropped a bunch of flower petals down on a couple of woman.
Munchkin:
"The good man scorns the Wicked!"
Munchkin Women:
"Through their lives, our children learn!"
Munchkins:
"What we miss, when we misbehave:"
The Munchkins made way for (Name) and Glindo as they came through the crowd with their hands intertwined. The Munchkins shook flowers with smiles on their faces.
(Name):
"And Goodness knows,"
"The Wicked's lives are lonely."
Glindo took a Munchkin woman's hand with a smile and (Name) booped a Munchkin Boy's nose, making him giggle.
Glindo:
"Goodness knows,"
"The Wicked die alone."
Glindo & (Name):
"It just shows when you're Wicked,"
"You're left only,"
"On your own..."
A Munchkin Girl handed both (Name) and Glindo a flower. The couple smiled at the little girl before she ran off to celebrate.
Munchkins:
"Yes, Goodness knows,"
"The Wicked's lives are lonely."
"Goodness knows,"
"The Wicked cry alone."
As the Munchkins danced around and threw flowers, (Name) leaned her head on Glindo's shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her waist, resting his head on (Name)'s.
Munchkins:
"Nothing grows for the Wicked,"
"They reap only,"
"What they sow..."
Glindo and (Name) began to walk up the stairs to the bubble platform, (Name) wiping away her tears.
"Miss (Name)! Mister Glindo!" A little Munchkin girl ran to the front.
The couple smiled at the young girl.
"Yes?" Glindo replied.
"Why does wickedness happen?" The Munchkin Girl asked.
"That's a good question." (Name) smiled sadly.
Glindo nodded in agreement. "One that many people find confusing; are people born Wicked? Or do they have Wickedness thrust upon them?"
The Munchkins glanced at the poster of the Wicked Witch, her hands up in a menacingly matter as she was surrounded by fire. The words 'Beware The Wicked Witch!' in large letters.
"After all, the Wicked Witch had a childhood. She had a father." (Name) explained.
"Who, by the way, had been appointed governor of Munchkinland." Glindo added.
~🧹~
Many years ago...
"I'm off to the assembly, dear!" Governor Frexpar Thropp told his wife as he adjusted his coat.
"And she had a mother, as so many do."
Governor Thropp's wife, Melena, gave her husband his coat and put it on for him.
Governor Thropp:
"How I hate to go and leave you lonely."
Melena smiled assuringly and put his hat on his head.
Melena:
"That's alright - it's only just one night."
Governor Thropp smiled and took his wife's hands and kissed them.
Governor Thropp:
"But know that you're here in my heart while I'm out of your sight~"
And with that, Governor Thropp left.
Once Governor Thropp was out the door, Melena dropped the smile that was on her face and let out a sigh.
"And like every family, they had their secrets..."
Melena tossed off her shawl and threw it away. She ran to the door and opened the speak easy window and saw a Salesman taking a sip out of a green bottle.
Melena smiled and joined him outside. The Salesman offered her the elixir, she took a sip out of it before dragging him inside the house with a giggle.
Melena took another sip of the elixir and put it back in the Salesman's hands.
She then tugged on his scarf and pulled it off.
The Salesman smirked and slid the elixir across the table, Melena caught it in her hand.
Salesman:
"Have another drink, my dark-eyed beauty."
"I've got one more night left, here in town,"
"So have another drink of green elixir,"
"And we'll have ourselves a little mixer."
Melena and the Salesman danced around the room, suggestive smiles on their faces.
The Salesman twirled Melena around and dipped her down.
"Have another little swallow, little lady,"
The Salesman placed Melena on the piano, pressing a couple of keys, making her laugh.
"And follow me down!"
(Obsessed with Jeff's voice in this song).
Melena took a sip of the elixir for what seemed like the tenth time, forgetting all about her husband.
"And one thing led to another...as it so often does."
~🧪~
Melena screamed in pain as she laid in bed.
"And from the moment the Witch was born, she was, well...different."
Nurses and maids rushed around in the bedroom.
"It's coming!" Dulcibear exclaimed.
"Now?" Governor Thropp yelled as he dabbed his wife's brow lovingly while Dulcibear poured boiling water over some towels and handed it to a female wolf doctor.
"The baby's coming!"
"And how?"
"I see a nose!"
"I see a curl!"
"It's a healthy, perfect, lovely, little -"
Everyone in the room gasped in horror.
"Sweet Oz!"
"What is it? what's wrong?" Melena exclaimed.
Governor Thropp stared at the baby in shock and disbelief.
"How can it be?"
"What does it mean?"
"It's uncanny."
"It's obscene!"
"Like a froggy, ferny cabbage,"
"The baby is unnaturally..."
"Green..." Governor Thropp looked from his wife to the baby, hurt and betrayed.
It was true, the baby was as green as a cabbage. Dulcibear picked up the baby and swaddled it lovingly. She goes to hand it to Melena when-
"Take it away." Governor Thropp demanded.
Dulcibear hesitated. Suddenly, the green baby let out a wail and all of the objects in the room fly to the air and stuck to the ceiling and walls, as if gravity had pulled them in all directions.
Everybody looked around, stunned. Governor Thropp stared at the Green Baby, clearly the source of this prevision of physics.
"TAKE IT AWAY!" He commanded loudly.
Dulcibear hurried out with the Baby, cradling it protectively in her arms, calming the baby down.
As Dulcibear and the Baby left, the objects in the room tumbled back to earth.
"It's alright, little one." Dulcibear cooed. "We'll look after you."
"So her nanny, Dulcibear, raised her."
"And as she grew, so did...her challengers."
~💚~
7 years later...
Seven-year-old Elphaba read her book on the lawn with her best friend (Name) as they had a picnic together with Dulcibear and Elphaba's four-year-old sister Nessarose, who sat in her wheelchair.
"Dulcibear!" Governor Thropp called.
"Coming, Governor!" Dulcibear responded.
She turned to Elphaba and (Name). "Little ones, watch Nessarose."
As Dulcibear left, Elphaba approached her baby sister, holding a pink flower.
"Oh, Nessarose, don't you worry, (Name) and I are here." Elphaba smiled as she handed Nessarose the flower.
Elphaba took Nessa and (Name)'s hands. "Now, wanna see something amazing?"
"Yeah." Nessa squeaked.
Elphaba opened her pop-up book, turning to a page of a pop-up image of mountains and a hot air balloon in the center.
"This, is all about our wonderful Wizard of Oz." Elphaba explained.
"Do you know how he got here?" (Name) asked Nessa, holding her hand.
"No."
"From the sky! In a balloon! See?" Elphaba turned the page, showing pop-up of a man standing in an emerald area.
"Then, he built a city made of emerald, 'cause he loves emeralds. Even though they're green. And Nessa, you wanna know a secret?"
Elphaba leaned close and said in a whisper: "If you get to meet him, he grants your heart's desire!"
Nessa and (Name) smiled at Elphaba, but all of their smiles disappeared when they saw a group of kids by the bushes, making fun of Elphaba.
"Elphaba Thropp, green on top! Someone run and tell her! Everyone can smell her!"
"Leave her alone!" (Name) shouted at the Bullies, only making them laugh harder.
Nessa burst into tears, (Name) immediately tried to comfort her.
"It's ok, Nessa. Please don't cry..." She cooed softly.
Elphaba leapt to her feet, she took a few steps over to the Bullies.
Suddenly, the pebbles and dirt swirled up from the ground.
"Stop!" Elphaba demanded.
Then, the pebbles pummeled the Bullies, making them scream and run away. (Name) stared at Elphaba in amazement.
"Elphaba Thropp!"
Elphaba turned around and saw her father rush over with Dulcibear.
"What have you done this time?" He scolded.
Hearing Nessa's cries, Governor Thropp comforted her.
"Now you made your sister cry!" He yelled at Elphaba.
"She didn't do anything!" (Name) yelled. "There were these kids, and they-"
Dulcibear placed a paw on (Name)'s shoulder and gave her a gentle look, making (Name) sigh.
Governor Thropp rolled Nessa away and brought her back inside the house.
"It's alright, Little One." Dulcibear consoled Elphaba, handing her back the book.
"He shouldn't have blamed you." (Name) said.
"Dulcibear!" Governor Thropp called.
Dulcibear gave the two girls a smile before rushing off to the Governor.
"Don't listen to those kids, you're beautiful, Elphaba. Green skin or not." (Name) assured with a smile. "Besides, green is a beautiful color."
Elphaba smiled at her friend, even though she knew she was wrong.
Elphaba opened her book and a pop-up Wizard comes out his palace, smiling, his little pop-up hand reaching for her.
"And so, it couldn't have been easy."
~🧹~
The crowd parted, making way for a huge effigy of Elphaba, looking terrifying.
Munchkins:
"No one mourns the Wicked!"
The effigy was wheeled towards Glindo and (Name), bearing down on them.
Munchkins:
"Now at last, she's dead and gone!"
"Now at last, there's joy throughout the land!"
(Name) and Glindo stared up at the effigy. Glindo squeezed (Name)'s hand.
Munchkins:
"And Goodness knows,"
Glindo:
"Goodness knows."
Munchkins:
"We know what Goodness is!"
Glindo:
"Ahhh~"
Munchkins:
"Goodness knows The Wicked die alone."
(Name):
"She died alone..."
A Munchkin Zealot lit a stick with fire and handed it to (Name) to the honors. But the (hair color) girl just shook her head.
Knowing she was uncomfortable, Glindo took the torch from the Munchkin so she wouldn't have to do it.
"Woe to those,"
"Woe to those,"
"Who spurn what Goodnesses they are shown..."
Glindo's smile tightened for a split second, but then, he tossed it into the effigy, making it ignite into flames.
Munchkins:
"No one mourns the Wicked!"
Glindo:
"Good news!"
(Name) stared up at the burning effigy of her childhood friend, tears building up in her eyes.
Glindo approached (Name) and kissed her forehead gently. He gave her a sad smile which she returned before taking her hand and leading her to the bubble platform.
"No one mourns the Wicked!"
(Name):
"Good news!"
The giant poster of the Wicked Witch was brought down.
"No one mourns...the Wicked!"
"Wicked!"
Glindo & (Name):
"Wicked!"
The Munchkins erupted into cheers as they watched the effigy burn.
"Woo! Yup!" Glindo cheered with a fake smile.
"Hooray." (Name) cheered less enthusiastically.
"Well, this has been fun! As you can imagine, my love and I have much to attend to with the Wizard's unexpected departure." Glindo announced.
"Yes! So if there are no further questions, we are going to go." (Name) added as Glindo stepped his foot down, a bubble formed around the platform.
He knew (Name) wasn't in the mood to use her magic, so he allowed her to come with him in his bubble.
But then, a Woman pushed to the front of the crowd and stared up at the couple with a curious yet somewhat provoking look.
"Glindo, (Name), is it true you two were friends with her?"
"What?" (Name) asked, not being able to hear from inside the bubble.
"Sorry, one sec." Glindo cleared his throat and poked the bubble with his wand, making it disappear.
"What?" (Name) asked again.
"Is it true you two were her friend?" The Woman repeated.
Glindo and (Name) froze, they weren't expecting that.
The Munchkins gasped and began to murmur things.
"Friend?" Glindo asked.
(Name) went silent for a moment. "Yes."
The Munchkins gasped in shock.
"We grew up together, actually." (Name) added, making the Munchkins even more shocked.
"I-I mean, I did know her." Glindo stated. "That is...our paths did cross."
Glindo and (Name) stared at the flames on the effigy, memories of their friend flooding through their head.
~🫧~
A younger Glindo stood at the Ozdust ball, intertwining hands with Elphaba and (Name).
~🫧~
Glindo, Elphaba, and (Name) sat in the poppy field together.
Elphaba placed her black hat on her head, and (Name) leaned her head on Glindo's shoulder.
Glindo smiled and kissed her head, making Elphaba smile at her best friends.
~🫧~
"At school." Glindo confirmed. "But you must understand, it was a long time ago. Actually, this was the same time I had met (Name)."
(Name) nodded. "It was...the first day at Shiz..."
~🫧~
