INVITATION

{13}

As Taehyung returned from the office, Y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. His usually bright demeanor was replaced with an odd behavior that she couldn't quite put her finger on.

Y/n- Taehyung, dinner's ready.

Y/n called out, her voice filled with annoyance. She expected him to come rushing to the table as he always did, but instead, he barely acknowledged her presence. He simply hummed in response, his eyes fixed on some unknown point in the distance.

Y/n's frustration grew as she watched him.

Y/n- What's wrong with you today? You're not acting like yourself.

She asked, her voice laced with irritation. Taehyung finally tore his gaze away and cautiously met Y/n's eyes.

Taehyung- Nothing, just a long day at work, that's all.

Y/n didn't buy it. She had seen through his façade's countless times before.

Y/n- Don't lie to me, Taehyung. I can tell when something's bothering you.

He sighed, albeit reluctantly, and took a seat at the dining table opposite Y/n. There was a moment of silence as they stared at each other, a tangible tension between them.

Taehyung-I saw something today.

He finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

Y/n- What do you mean?

Taehyung- Nothing.

He said and started eating while Y/n was confused at his behavior.

After finishing their dinner, Y/n and Taehyung made their way back to their room. Y/n felt a mix of exhaustion and anticipation as they entered the quiet space.

Deciding to freshen up first, Y/n excused herself and headed towards the bathroom. As she emerged, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, she was caught off guard by Taehyung's sudden grip on her wrist. His touch was both firm and gentle, and a spark of electricity shot through her body, leaving her momentarily speechless.

With a stern glint in his eyes, Taehyung smoothly pulled Y/n onto his lap, surprising her even further. Caught off balance by his action, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck to steady herself. Their close proximity intensified the swirling emotions that existed between them.

Y/n- What d-do you think y-you're doing?

She managed to stutter, her voice a mix of disbelief and curiosity. The proximity made her breath catch, and she could feel the heat radiating from his body. It was a dangerous closeness that sent shivers down her spine, both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.

Taehyung's grip around her waist tightened, emphasizing the physical connection between them. Y/n's heart pounded in her chest the tension between them was palpable, but so was their mutual attraction.

Taehyung- You know, we could make this forced marriage a little more interesting.

His voice was low, dripping with amusement, as he teased Y/n.

Her heart pounded in her chest, her breath hitched as she felt his arms tighten around her waist. His touch sent electric shocks through her body, and she couldn't help but shiver. Taehyung, on the other hand, seemed completely unfazed by the intensity of the moment.

Y/n- What are you talking about, Taehyung? We can't possibly make this marriage anything but what it is - a mere arrangement.

He chuckled softly, his breath tickling her ear.

Taehyung- Who said we can't have a little fun along the way? We're stuck with each other, Y/n, so why not try to make the best of it?

Y/n's eyes widened as she stared into Taehyung's sincere gaze. Just then a knock on the door interrupted their moment. Y/n hurriedly stood up and went towards the door.

Y/n- Something important, Unnie?

Irene burst into the room, excitement bubbling within her.

Irene- Y/n, Taehyung! Grandpa wants to see you both in the living room!

Y/n and Taehyung exchanged wary glances. Curiosity overriding their apprehension.

----------------------------

Arriving at the living room, they found Grandpa seated comfortably in his favorite armchair.

G/Kim- Come closer, my dear grandchildren.

Grandpa beckoned, his voice carrying a tinge of excitement. Y/n and Taehyung approached, taking a seat opposite their grandfather, eyes filled with anticipation. They were well aware that Grandpa was a man of playful surprises.

G/Kim- I have received an invitation to a wedding in Busan. Sadly, I won't be able to make it. But it got me thinking, why not send my favorite grandchildren in my place?

He announced, flaunting the invitation card between his fingers.

Y/n and Taehyung exchanged a glance, surprise etched on their faces. They had always been pitted against each other, each considering the other as their sworn enemy. The idea of attending an event together seemed absurd.

Taehyung- Are you serious, Grandpa? You want us, enemies, to attend a wedding together? Don't you foresee chaos?

He questioned; his voice laced with disbelief.

Grandpa chuckled, his eyes twinkling mischievously.

G/Kim- That's precisely why I want you both to attend together. It's high time you let go of this silly rivalry and learned to get along.

Y/n and Taehyung squirmed uncomfortably in their seats, feeling the weight of their shared history. Their relationship had been marked by constant bickering and pranks.

Y/n- But Grandpa, we barely tolerate each other, attending a wedding together would be a disaster waiting to happen.

She protested, her voice tinged with desperation. Grandpa leaned forward, his eyes softening with compassion.

G/Kim- My dears, I have watched you both grow, seen sparks of something more within you. It's time you realize that beneath all the teasing and bickering, there's a hidden connection waiting to be explored.

Taehyung and Y/n shared a momentary glance, contemplating Grandpa's words. There was a certain truth to them, a lingering curiosity about what lay beyond their immature rivalry.

Taehyung- I don't know, Grandpa, it feels strange.

Taehyung murmured; his voice filled with uncertainty. Grandpa nodded understandingly, placing a reassuring hand on Taehyung's shoulder.

G/Kim- Change can be scary, my boy, but sometimes the greatest joy lies on the other side of fear. Give it a chance, and you might discover something beautiful.

Y/n and Taehyung exchanged a hesitant look.

Y/n- Alright, Grandpa, we'll give it a try. For you.

She finally conceded, a small smile playing on her lips. Grandpa beamed, his eyes twinkling with pride.

G/Kim- That's my grandchildren! Now, go pack your bags. The wedding is in two days, and there's a lot to prepare. Taehyung's lips curled into a playful smile, he glanced at Y/n.

Taehyung- Looks like we're going on a little adventure, partner.

Y/n rolled their eyes, unable to hide a small smile.

Y/n- Just remember, you're my enemy, not my partner.

Grandpa chuckled, clearly enjoying their banter.

G/Kim- That's the spirit. But Y/n, Taehyung, I have a small request to ask of you. During this trip, try to put your differences aside and give being together a chance.

He exclaimed. Y/n and Taehyung exchanged another cautious look, this time a flicker of uncertainty in their eyes. The journey to Busan could potentially change their relationship dynamics, but the question remained - for better or worse?
