Chapter 27

Kelvin's Pov

I'm so stupid. I can not believe that I actually agreed to help Erinfolami and her friends with their makeup. Immediately I volunteered to do so my brain came back home and that is when I knew that I fucked up.

I was soon diverted from my thoughts, immediately I saw the Maths teacher come in.

Why exactly is this man like this?

I was happy and sad at the same time.

Happy that the maths teacher was able to distract me from reminiscing on my stupid mistake and also sad because that man would not allow me enjoy my study period in peace.

Halfway into the Maths period, I could not help but be distracted again.

I have always had a thing for Make up  since I was young . I remember how much my mum used to scold and beat me everytime she caught me play with her make up kit.

I would spend hours at the front of the mirror soiling my little hands with mascara and eyeshadow, painting my whole face with weird and funny colour mix.

There was this joy I could not comprehend that came from doing so. I had at many times received insults from the boys in the neighborhood because I would not come out to play catcher catcher with them while I was busy with my make up session.

Along the line, when my mom saw how obsessed I was with make up. She enrolled me in an institution that specialized in cosmetics inorder to learn.

With time, I became an expert in it and would often times help my mom with her make up whenever she was going for a Saturday Owambe party.

Nigerian mother's and Owambe parties are like 5 and 6. Inseparable!

I never did make up for anybody apart from my mum because I was always scared of the condemning look people usually gave to me.

The look also crossed Erinfolami's face when I volunteered to help with the makeup. That look that was full of Judgement.

I remember one of our nosy neighbors when I was young, she was always fond of finding ways to insult me.
"See his head, things that boys always do, that is what you should be doing. Not doing like mumu up and down. Only to be waking like penguin and doing makeup up and down like a domesticated girl child. Better go and change!" She would scream at me when I refused to play ball with her naughty child Kunle.

"Oyinbo, stand up!" A distant voice distracted me from my thinking.

I blinked back to reality only to see to whole class staring intently at me.

"I asked you to stand up, young man!" The deep baritone voice of the Maths teacher resonated loudly again.

"S... Sir" I stuttered as I stood up.
"What was the last thing I said?" He questioned me.

"The last thing you said?" I repeated his question.

" Young man, do not waste my time and answer my question! " He said this time around he was yelling at me with a scowl deeply plastered on his face.

" Urrm... "

My speech was loudly interrupt by the sound of the school bell, indicating the end of the period.

" You will not be so lucky next time, you try what you just did again in my class" He said as he packed his things and left the class.

Phew that was close!

I let out the shaky breath I was holding immediately he left the class.

I sat down awkwardly and try to avert my gaze from my classmates awkward ones.

"That was so close o."

"It was God that saved your life. If not, you for don die today today!"

The voices of my classmates echoed through out the class as they began taking of my predicament  immediately without giving a care that I was sitting right there.

I was just too embarrassed to say a word so I just kept mute.

Did he have call me oyinbo in the front of the whole class!

I decided to make sure that the rest of the period that rolled by I was not distracted by any other thing.

It would not be funny if I have to experience another form of embarrassment in front of the whole class again. Heaven knows I would just faint right there!

Gbagaun! Gbagaun!! Gbagaun!!!

The school bell rand for the tenth time today finally signalling the end of school.

Shout out to the timekeeper that guy tried!
Mehn!

Following my daily routine I went outside the school gate and waited for my mom's car to drive by and pick me up.

Honk!

The sound of my mom's car caught my attention and I plopped in to the car.

**********

Instead of my mummy it was another entity entirely.

"Long time,no see Kelvin."

"Uncle Bankole, Good afternoon sir" I greeted my mom's fiance with so much enthusiasm.

You can not blame me, It has been a long time since I saw him, apart from the random chats that we have on WhatsApp.

"Where's my mummy?"

"She is at home, she has an emergency food order she had to attend to and me being the kind and darling husband to be. I decided to help her out to pick you up.

I chuckled at his words and smiled at how affectionate he was.

My mum is so lucky to have a man like him.

"So what is happening in your life eh, any girlfriends I should know about?" He asked with a smirk on his face.

" Girlfriends ke! Me I do not have any girlfriend o." I replied him.

" That is very impossible! How will a fine boy like you not have any girlfriend." He said still not believing me.

"How will I have any girlfriend when they all think I am gay."

"You are gay!" He said his eyes widening as saucers.

"No,I am not!" I exclaimed.

"It's a long story." I said sadly.

"Fortunately for you, I've got all the time in the world.

"Uncle Bankole, you can not understand."

"Then make me, son!"

"The thing is you can not relate. You have a deep baritone voice, you walk like a man. You have the best masculine physique and aura. I'm the exact opposite."

"Opposite as how?" He questioned.

" Opposite in the sense that, I do not have any of those your features."

" Kelvin you can not have any of my features yet because you are still developing. You are still undergoing puberty and your body is yet to adapt. I on the other hand , is fully natured abd developed. I will be 47 years this year. I am no baby."

" My friends always taunt me everyday, because of how I walk. They say I walk like a girl and my butt jiggles like pure water. I have stretch marks all over my body when I am not a girl. Do you know how many times I am always left out of boys conversation because I can not relate with any of the experiences.
They always talk about how they gave wet dreams and erection but it has never happened to  me. They all have deep cracking voice but I am here sounding like a drenched chick. I just feel left out and like the odd one out." I said with tears rolling down my face.

I watched in silence as Uncle Bankole tried to process everything I just said.

"Hmmmmm. " He sighed deeply.

"I understand your whole point Kelvin. This whole issue you are having is an understandable one. It is all part of societal pressure. You want to feel among, but the thing is you can not force nature's work. Everyone has a special body and how it functions. I usually tell people that delay is not denial.

Your body is different because you are unique and special and your body is taking it's time to develop properly. All I need you to do is to work on your self esteem and ego.

I have noticed that your self esteem is really low and that is not too good for you. Start building your self confidence from now on and I promise to help you with it." He lectured me with so much sincerity that I was moved to tears.

At last! We got home and I hopped down from the car with Uncle Bankole walking closely behind me.

I met my mummy whipping up some foreign dishes and was marvelef st how concentrated and serious she was.

" Mummy, Good afternoon ma."

" Awwn! My baby is back. How are you?"

" I'm good. Mummy I want to ask you something."

" What's that baby?"

" I volunteered to help someone of my classmates with their makeup for a birthday party and I wanted to ask for your permission to go to their house to help them with the makeup."

" Makeup, Wow! I thought you only did makeup for me. This is new!" She said with shock evident in her voice.

" These your classmates, they are girl right." She said with a sly smirk on her face.

" Ewww! Mummy no, it's not what you think." I said cutting my mum off from her chain of mischievous thought.

" Okay, you can go."

" Thank you mummy! You're the best." I said embracing her.

I then went into my room to freshen up . As I came out of the bathroom, I picked up my phone and called the number Erioluwa gave me so I could call her on.

I dialed the number and placed the phone on my ear as it rang.

She finally picked up at the third ring.

"Hi! It's me Kelvin." I muttered awkwardly.

" Oh okay." She said

" Send me the address. I will come after school tomorrow before the party. My mum has given her permission."

" Sure! I would do so. Thank you." She said as she cut the call.
