5; Worst Night Ever
Unleashed,
Chapter 5,
Worst Night Ever,
I grumbled under my breath. What was I thinking!? In the forest, at God knows what time, and I'm fucking lost!!! I gave a small scream of frustration and hit a tree.
I froze and slowly clutched my fist to my chest. "Now that was stupid!" I wheezed, shaking my hand. I looked around to try to get a sense of direction. I turned in a circle, and then chose a random direction and walked that way. And away we go.
I pulled my hoodie closer to me and shivered. The rip in my sweats didn't exactly help keep the heat in. I'm glad I dropped Dwight's crap earlier, the milk was cold against my leg. Screw his milk.
I called out as I felt all the air in my body shoot to my head. My head thud against the ground as I tumbled down a hill hitting roots, sticks, and rocks on the way down. There was a splash as I reached the bottom. I groaned lowly and tried to sit up, my clothes weighted down by water, or mostly likely mud.
That was graceful.
I slowly stood up and tried to see where I was now. "Luck isn't my friend today." I have fallen into a creek or a ditch. A steep one. I put my hand on the ground and started to crawl up.
A twig snapped and I froze. I held my breath and looked around. When I heard and saw nothing in the dark, I started to move again. The dirt below one of my boots broke and I started to slide down again. I desperately clawed at the dirt. "Woah, daddy!"
I stopped moving and sighed. "We're good." I clutched another hand full of dirt and pulled my body up. I reached the top and flopped on my back, panting. I fist pumped the sky. We did it! I sat up and patted myself on the back.
A twig snapped nearby. My head whipped around, my eyes searching the trees. Rustling came from my left. I gasped and jumped off the ground, backing away. It's just an animal.
But maybe it's not...
It has to be.
Hmm.. fresh teenager, fresh meat. Delicious.
Stop. It's just the wind, the wind can't hurt us, we're fine. I stepped back and jumped as something touched my shoulder.
I shouted and turned around. A branch. Just a wood branch. I sighed grasping the mossy bark. We're okay. Just overreacting.
A thud echoed the trees. I jumped and turned around. Where'd that come from?
The depths of hell.
Thanks brain. I jumped as it thumped again. My breath caught in my throat.
We're dead.
Shut up! This is real life. Calm your shit, Cat. I squat down behind a tree. Mr. Douglas better be happy I'm doing squats.
THUMP
I gasped as it sounded closer. A creaking echoed loudly. My eyes widened. Shh trees creak right? Its normal. You're freaking yourself out.
But that was loud. More than a gently creak in a strong wind. AND THERE'S NO STRONG WIND, genius!
I gulped as I realised my brain was right. The sound of wood snapping sang in the trees, followed by a loud thud. I shrieked as the ground shook. I clutched the tree I was hiding next to.
When it stopped I stayed still, panting. When it was quiet, I moved away from my tree. What the hell was that?
Earthquake?
That was a really short earthquake. A growl pierced through me. I stopped breathing. Wolf? Did we have wolves here? Bear? What else growls..? Maybe it's the wind? I gulped.
And if it's not, we die.
I ignored the comment. The same sounds echoed again. Wood snapping, thudding, and ground shaking. I fell to the ground. It stopped and I stood up slowly. That was definitely not an earthquake.
Then what was it?
Let's see. I moved towards the direction I thought the sound came from.
You crazy? Why are we going towards it?
Come on. You want to know too. It's the middle of the night with mini earthquakes that aren't earthquakes happening. That's weird. I wanna know what it is. I kept moving but didn't find anything. No more ground shaking, no more creaking or wood snapping. Nothing.
See? Nothing. Let's get out of here!
I sighed. Then I heard something. I froze. It sounded like people talking. I wonder what they're doing here? I crept closer to the voices until I could clearly hear them. I hide behind a tree and peeked around it.
Curiosity killed the Cat.
Two men stood in a small clearing, not even twenty feet wide. They were both tall and very pissed off. They glared at each other. The man closer to me was shirtless with his tan muscles flexed.
But the one on the other side was just the opposite. He was pale. So pale, I thought he was a ghost. He fully clothed. Sort of. His clothes had rips and tears.
"Are we tired already?" The pale man teased, smirking. His voice made me shiver. It drew my eyes up his lean body to his pale face. His silky voice matched his looks; sexy. His eyes were dark, cheekbones high and sharp, lips full and seductive. He was like a pale sex god playboy. Like....like I don't even know. He was so handsome, it had to be Photoshop. Seriously.
"Hardly. Answer my question! What're you doing here?" The tan dude demanded. His voice was rough and thick with anger. I couldn't see his face, but I don't think I had to.
The pale man chuckled. "Just taking a stroll in the moonlight. Does that offend you, Alpha?" The way he said alpha, I could tell it was a joke. Like calling a boy with glasses a nerd or a girl princess. It was an hidden insult.
"You know I'm not the Alpha. Your territory ends miles from here, why are you so far from it?" Tan Alpha guy growled. His back was still tense. I couldn't see his legs but I bet they were tense too.
"Oh my. Have I really wondered so far? Sorry, I was in deep thought." The pale guy replied still wearing a smirk. Was he trying to piss this guy off? Cause I think it's working!
"Leave. You have no place here. Filth."
Now that was rude.
Indeed.
"Hmm. Something smells..... Sweet." Mr. Pale said, his eyes snapping to mine as his smirk grew. I heard a growl nearby, but couldn't move from the man's gaze. My body was frozen and my heart started pumping louder.
"You will not touch the town!" The Mr. Tan commanded, his body shaking.
"I won't have to. One came to me. Hello, little one." His eyes flashed purple causing me to gasp. The Tan guy turned to me. I didn't wait to see what happened next.
I bolted through the trees and plants along the uneven forest ground.
Don't slow down, don't turn around.
Don't slow down, don't turn around.
Don't slow down, don't turn around. Not gonna be some dumb bitch in the movies. Oh hell no.
I hurried to climb over logs and under branches. I looked down for any obstacles and ran into something. I looked up as I stepped back. I gasped in horror as I saw Mr. Pale grinning down at me with teeth longer than they should be.
"Aren't you delicious?" Fangs.... He... He had fangs..?!
