Chapter 4 - Adoption

"I can build it myself, Dean." Seamus looked at the instructions on how to build a bed for a child.

"Are you really sure about that? It's upside down." Dean pointed out, holding the instructions.

"..I got it." Seamus pointed.

"That doesn't go in there." Dean confiscated his hammer,"You use the Alan Key."

"The what key?" Seamus looked up.

"Alan Key." Dean handed it to him.

"I could just use my wand, Dean." Seamus held up his wand.

"It would probably be easier than having you try DIY." Dean sighed.

"Exactly." Seamus pointed at him with his wand, "Let me do things more often."

"Be careful." Dean told him.

"I'm always careful." Seamus nodded.

"You really aren't." Dean shoot his head.

"Aye I am." Seamus rolled his eyes.

"I asked you to paint the walls last week and we ended up with one less wall." Dean reminded him.

"The wall broke itself!" Seamus defended.

"Yes, the explosion had nothing to do with it." Dean agreed sarcastically.

"I don't explode things anymore." Seamus shrugged.

"Tell that to the walls... And the kitchen sink. Oh, and the bedroom window." Dean began listing things.

"Those broke themselves." Seamus nudged his leg.

"I really hope you don't plan on teaching our child the art of objects 'breaking themselves'." Dean gave him a look.

"Our child will be a master at that art." Seamus smiled.

"No. No they won't." Dean shook his head dismissively.

Seamus' smile dropped into a frown before he began waving his wand and saying a spell. Dean listened carefully to Seamus' words, hopeful that he wouldn't make a mistake and explode the bed. Seamus waved his wand before the bed pieces floated up, and just as they went to go together.. Boom!

Dean shielded his face as the explosion happened,"Goddanmmit Seamus!"

"I said it right!" Seamus waved the smoke away.

"Did you wave your wand right? Flick at the end?" Dean questioned.

"Flick at the end." Seamus nodded.

Dean just sighed,"Why are you like this?"

"Don't blame me, blame the wand!" Seamus threw it to the ground, causing another bang.

"Relax Seamus, you'll cause an accident." Dean picked up the wand.

"Dean, can you do it? I don't want to blow up the house next." Seamus grumbled.

"Of course I can, Seamus." Dean nodded, using Seamus' wand to assemble the bed,"See?"

"Okay, okay." Seamus nodded and got up, going and grabbed the bag.

Dean was finishing the bathroom by putting a stool in front of the toilet.

"It's time! Dean!" Seamus shouted from downstairs.

"I'm coming, Seamus." Dean called to him as he walked downstairs.

"We're going to be late." Seamus got his jacket on.

"No we won't." Dean assured him, getting his shoes on.

"We have an hour until we get him, Dean, we're going to be late." Seamus panicked.

"Seamus. Calm down and grab my hand." Dean held his hand out.

Seamus sighed before he took his hand. Dean closed his eyes and apparated them into an alleyway near the orphanage.

"Do you think they'll like us?" Seamus asked.

"Of course, they will. Just relax." Dean smiled.

"Okay, okay." Seamus sighed.

Dean smiled again and lead Seamus around to the front of the orphanage,"You ready?'

"Yeah." Seamus let out a sigh.

"Then let's go." Dean dragged him inside the building.

Seamus looked around the big building, looking at all the small children.

That's when Dean approached the lady at the front desk,"Uh, Ma'am?"

"Yes?" The lady poked her head up.

"We are here to pick up a child." Dean told her.

"Name?" she asked.

"Dean. Dean Thomas." Dean informed her.

"Seamus Finngian." Seamus nodded.

The lady began typing something on her computer before turning to them,"Just to the left, sirs. Your child will be in there."

"Thank you." Seamus nodded with a small smile before they walked.

Dean walked in first and held open the door for Seamus,"After you."

Seamus took a deep breath, looking around before he walked in. Dean looked around but he couldn't see a child. That was until an older woman walked in through the door at the back with someone behind her.

"Is that them?" Seamus whispered.

"I think so." Dean whispered back.

"Alright, go ahead."  The woman sighed.

That's when a small, black haired girl walked out. She was pale, had freckles and two different coloured eyes, one green and one blue.

Seamus looked at Dean before he knelt down, "Hi sweetie."

The girl was hesitant at first but walked closer to Seamus,"Hello."

"What's your name?" Seamus smiled

"I'm... Cassidy." Cassidy told him.

"That's a beautiful name. I'm Seamus, and this is my husband Dean." Seamus pointed.

"So I get two daddies? That's cool!" Cassidy smiled.

"Yeah, you get two daddies." Seamus told her, "Do you wanna come home with us?"

"Mhm." Cassidy nodded.

"Right." Seamus took her bags, "Come on then."

"Alright." Cassidy grabbed  Dean's hand.

Seamus smiled at Dean before they walked out.

Dean lead them to the alleyway again before her looked down at Cassidy,"Wanna see something cool?"

Cassidy looked around the alley, looking up at Dean and nodded with a smile, "Yeah."

"Just keep you eyes closed." Dean instructed her.

"Alright." She hummed, closing her eyes.

Dean then closed his eyes and apparated the trio to their living room.

"Alright, open them now." Seamus tapped her shoulder.

Cassidy did as she was told before looking around,"Woah! How'd you do that?"

"It's a little thing called.. Magic. Like in your storybooks." Seamus nodded.

"Oh, I like reading books." Cassidy told him.

"Yeah? We got loads of books for you." Dean smiled.

"Yay!" Cassidy hugged his leg.

"Why don't we show you your room?" Seamus asked.

"That would be nice." Cassidy nodded.

"Come on." Dean picked her up.

Cassidy giggled and held onto Dean as he carried her to her new room.

"I'll start dinner!" Seamus called upstairs.

"Thanks, dear." Dean answered, setting Cassidy down,"You aren't allergic to anything, right?"

"Not that I know of." Cassidy shook her head.

"Good to know." Dean nodded, pushing open the door to Cassidy's room.

Cassidy hesitated before she walked in, looking around with a smile.

"So, do you like it?" Dean asked her.

"I love it!" Cassidy squealed.

"Heh, I'm glad." Dean chuckled,"It took a bit of effort to set up the bed.

Cassidy climbed onto the bed, "It's very comfy."

"That's great." Dean told her before looking behind him,"I do hope your father doesn't blow up the kitchen again.

"Again?" Cassidy looked over at him.

"He has a tendency to make things 'explode by themselves'." Dean chuckled.

"Oh.. That sounds fun." Cassidy smiled.

"Tell that to my wallet." Dean sighed.

"Sorry." Cassidy dropped her smile.

"It's perfectly fine, it's an ongoing joke. He's been blowing up things since we were at school." Dean told her.

Cassidy nodded, "Did he get into trouble?"

"Sometimes." Dean shrugged.

"I'd imagine so." Cassidy giggled.

Dean smiled, he was finally a dad to what was an amazing daughter. What could go wrong?

**

"Dad! Dad! Look what daddy showed me!" Cassidy ran up to Dean.

"What is it, dear?" Dean turned to her, holding a glass of water.

"Can I borrow your wand?" Cassidy held out her hand.

"Um... Sure?" Dean raised a brow and handed it to her.

Cassidy smiled, taking his glass of water before she waved the wand about, "Eye of rabbit, harp string hum.."

Where had Dean heard this before?.. Eye of rabbit.. Oh no.

Before Dean could stop Cassidy, she had already finished the spell, "Turn this water into rum!"

Dean quickly covered his face, he knew what was going to happen and just like on cue. Boom!

Cassidy laughed and clapped her hands, "Boom!"

"Seamus!" Dean shouted to his husband.

"Yes?!" Seamus shouted from downstairs.

"Why did you teach our daughter that?" Dean questioned him.

Seamus walked upstairs and pointed, "It worked downstairs."

"Seamus, you can't do that spell. I told you that back in first year." Dean sighed.

Seamus shrugged and lifted Cassidy up, "We'll clean it up, right Cass?"

"Of course we will." Cassidy smiled,"Well, I will. You can clean up what you did in the kitchen."

Seamus slowly looked at Dean, "You were supposed to keep quiet about that."

"You didn't say it like that. You just told me to tell him later." Cassidy gave her dad a look.

"Dean you heard nothing." Seamus chuckled and he let her down before going downstairs.

"If you find your father dead one day, you'll know who it was. Will you snitch?" Dean looked at her.

"Of course not dad." Cassidy shook her head with a smile.

"This is why I love you." Dean patted her head,"Now clean up your mess."

Cassidy nodded before she grabbed the cleaning products.
