Chapter 20 : Tantrums
BIRTHDAYS FOR Glyde doesn't hold that much significance. If there was anything special for it, he would gladly wish that their boss would give them a bonus for living another year. However, it's not like birthdays work that way. That is why, rather than thinking you're special that day, Glyde would rather work his ass off in his office to make some money for himself instead.
On his way home, Glyde assisted Jaycee in buying some groceries. In fact, this was really just a reason for Jaycee and Ryan to convince him to hang out with them after work.
"You really don't have any plans tomorrow? Why don't you just take an early leave tomorrow, then let's go and grab a drink! I think you definitely deserves it!" Jaycee suggested.
Glyde ignored her as he pointed at the man who's walking towards their direction, "Your man is here." That sentence successfully diverted her attention.
When Glyde thought he was finally safe, Ryan asked a question : "So? Any plans tomorrow?"
Jaycee giggled at the side when he saw Glyde's irritated face. "Yeah, I do"
Ryan smirked, "Let me guess, work?"
In the end, both of his friends weren't able to convince Glyde to have fun for his birthday. The next day, they were just both surprised when they've learned that Glyde took the day off from work when they decided to surprise him.
"Where are you? Why are you not in the office?" Jaycee asked in a loud voice which made Glyde to cringe in pain and pull his phone away from his ear.
"Are you my boss or something? I'm with Hershey, why?"
The other line went silent for a couple of seconds when Glyde finally heard a laugh. "HA-HA-HA, of course, of course. You would make some time for her and not with us! Why did I even ask? Go and have fun! Happy birthday"
Glyde chuckled, "Thanks!"
"Who was it?" Hershey asked as she approached him.
"Jaycee. My friends were both looking for me at the office," he truthfully answered.
When Glyde went back home yesterday night, Hershey contacted him after a while. She asked for them to go out on a date for his birthday, in which Glyde willingly obliged. Despite him having some plans on just working for his birthday, he took a day off just to spend some time with Hershey.
Glyde have already learned a lot about Hershey, which is why he took her to an art museum for their date. He knew that Hershey is quite weak, and she is also quite fond with art pieces specifically for paintings.
He was taken by surprise when Hershey suddenly enveloped him into an embrace, "Shey?"
Hershey gave him a sweet smile before leaning her head into Glyde's chest. "Thank you for bringing me here," she said in whisper.
Glyde let her as he stroke her hair. He continued to do this for almost a minute before Hershey pulled herself away. For Glyde's eyes, Hershey is like a puppy asking for it's owner's affection. However, it's not like Glyde would complain about it. In fact, he had this small wish inside of him that Hershey would stay on his arms for a little bit longer.
"Let's look around a little bit more!" Hershey said as he pulled Glyde on his hand. Glyde could only sigh internally and let himself get pulled by the woman he was with.
While they stayed there and looked around longer, there was something building up on Glyde's chest. He could not explain what it is, but he decided to ignored it. He didn't looked at any paintings anymore but just focused his eyes on the person he was with. As long as she was enjoying it, he was happy as well. For him, she must be the prettiest art he could ever seen in the museum.
"We have seen a lot artworks, yet my favorite still remains the same" Hershey confessed as they sat down on the chair inside a cafe, while they await for their order.
"Do you mean the Hidden Light?" Glyde casually asked but it made Hershey's smile brighten up tenfold. Glyde could not help but to be satisfied with her reaction.
"Yes! I guess, you still do remember when I talked about it before?" Hershey excitedly said. "I've been looking for the artist behind that painting. He told me that he would invite me to all of his exhibitions so I'd be able to see that painting of his again, but I think father had something to do with it so I won't be able to meet him"
Glyde was confused, "Meet who?"
"I'm not sure what his real name, but his artist name was Jack"
"Jack?" Glyde furrowed his brow as he repeated the name that Hershey mentioned.
She nodded. "Yes. I met him when I was 18 years old at his art exhibition. I have learned that he was the one behind the Hidden Light. I wanted to talk to him a bit longer that time, unfortunately, he was also busy entertaining other guests"
Glyde opened his lips as if he wanted to say something, but then he also doesn't know what he should say. So, he shut his mouth as he frowned deeper.
"What's the matter?" Hershey asked in worry. But then a few seconds later she also clapped in glee, "Hey, don't tell me you're jealous?"
Glyde was pulled back in reality and was stunned at Hershey's question. Him, jealous? He looked at her dumbfoundedly and doesn't know how to respond to her.
"Glyde, darling, you're my only man. Okay? I don't like that Jack in that way. It's just that I would love to hold a conversation with him again to talk about the painting Hidden Light" Hershey tried to reassure him.
Glyde knew himself better than anyone else, that is why he knew that he wasn't speaking out of jealousy, "Then let's talk about the painting Hidden Light with me instead".
However, it did still sound as if he was jealous.
Hershey giggled and shamelessly gave him a peck on the lips, which incredibly left Glyde in daze.
"Alright, I'm sorry. I think, I talked about it too much. It's your special day, yet I'm talking about another guy in front of you. I'm sorry," Hershey sincerely apologized.
When she put it this way, Glyde can't help but to feel guilty. "It's fine, Shey. I'm not mad or anything. You can talk about anything you like with me."
Hershey looked at him straight into his eyes, which is why Glyde was also able to notice how Hershey was about to cry. "Why are you always so nice to me? You're always understanding and yet all I do in return is to throw some tantrums and act as a spoiled brat. I'm sorry if you have to put up with someone like me."
Glyde put his hand on top of Hershey's, which was on top of the table, to calm her down. Hershey gave a small smile as she said in a low voice, "I really appreciate it whenever you're this sweet and patient with me. I feel so lucky that I've met you"
Glyde hold her hand even tightly and pat her head. To console her a bit more, he told the line that she would surely love to hear and put her in ease. "I'm yours only, Shey. So, anything you do is fine. I already told you this a couple times, right? I'll handle you with care as I belong to you. You don't have to worry about it too much, hmm?"
