7 - Pranks and Totally Not a Date
It was a Friday afternoon. Thank god (Chuck). Gabriel was walking to his final class of the day, yet again art. There were a lot of art classes for some unknown reason.
And of course, Sam wouldn't miss the opportunity. As Gabriel opened the door, it knocked off the bucket of paint balanced carefully on top of the door. And that is how Gabriel became covered in green paint.
Gabriel flinched slightly as the paint covered him, and then immediately turned to glare at Sam who was just smirking at him. There weren't many people in the class at the time, but they laughed at Gabriel all the same.
Gabriel sighed and walked over to his desk, grabbing one of the towels used to clean up paint and wiping the paint off his face. Luckily he didn't have his favourite green jacket on, it was in his backpack which had avoided most of the paint. His hair however would take ages to clean. He looked back at Sam who was still watching him, and stuck his tongue out at him. Sam rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the teacher who had just walked into the room.
In art they were yet again working on a canvas. Gabriel's was still just nothing. They were supposed to paint something meaningful but Gabriel just couldn't think of anything. He glanced over at Sam who was sketching ideas down. Gabriel couldn't see what they were, but from Sam's expression he assumed they would be good.
Gabriel sighed and leant back in his chair, pulling a sucker out. The teachers had long since given up on stopping him eating them during class. He thought for a second before pulling a second out and scribbling a note to attach to it.
'Don't worry it's not poisonous. A reward for being the most fun competition I've had. Oh but the smoke bomb in your bag, moving your bag could probably set that off.'
He wasn't too far from Sam, so throwing the sucker onto his desk wasn't hard. Sam jumped as it landed and then picked it up suspiciously. He pulled the note off first and read it, looking at his bag as he read the last part. He glared back at Gabriel who just smirked at him and shrugged. Sam scribbled a note and threw it back, although he did pop the sucker into his mouth.
Gabriel unfolded it and read Sam's neat writing. 'I think you're just bored right now. And smoke bombs don't have anything on stink bombs.' Gabriel didn't process the last part for a moment until he realized Sam could've been to his locker. He swore under his breath and glared at Sam who was now the one smirking.
~~
"Lis, you okay to come over tomorrow?"
Lisa nodded and Dean silently cheered. She smiled brightly at him as he sat beside her. "I can come over in the morning and stay all day, if that's alright with you."
"Yeah, Dad probably won't mind," Dean said. "Sam might be annoying about it though."
"Oh? Why?" Lisa asked.
"He thinks my soulmate is someone else," Dean said.
"Why would he think that?" Lisa said, offended slightly. Dean shrugged.
"You might want to avoid him, Charlie too, they'll get really annoying about it."
Lisa nodded, and they went back to whatever work they had in whatever class they were in.
~~
Gabriel watched as Sam looked at his bag. It was the end of the day and they were packing up. Sam was just staring at his bag as he contemplated what to do. He had tried very carefully looking for the smoke bomb but it was placed in a spot where if he tried to do anything to it, it would go off.
Gabriel watched as Sam eventually just gave up and kicked his bag across the room. And as promised, it exploded into smoke.
In a few seconds the entire room was filled with smoke. Gabriel smirked, listening as people started freaking out. He ran towards the door to avoid getting in trouble for this, and ran into someone who had the same idea along the way.
He and the person who he couldn't see through the smoke fell to the ground in the doorway. A few seconds later the smoke cleared enough for Gabriel to see it was Sam he'd tripped on. He'd grabbed his bag and was trying to get away before he also got in trouble for it. Sam looked over at him from the floor, and yet again Gabriel thought he saw that flash of hazel green again. It faded almost immediately though.
"I still like stink bombs better," Sam said, the first words either of them had directly said to each other. Sam stood and ran off through the corridor, leaving Gabriel on the floor.
And also leaving him in such confusion over the faint traces of the lockers blue colour in his vision, that this time wouldn't go away.
~~
Sam went to his locker first, the one painted bright pink. Although he froze a few seconds after he closed it, realizing that he could tell it was pink. It was tiny, just the faintest trace of the colour around the edges but it was definitely there.
He looked at it, blinking for a few moments to make sure it wasn't an illusion. Then figured he must've passed his soulmate in the hall or something, maybe just seen them. Because he hadn't met anyone today.
Sam walked around the corner to where Gabriel's locker was, and saw him standing there opening his locker. And the moment it opened he jumped back and started coughing violently.
Sam had set it up so that opening the locker door would set off the bomb, leaving Gabriel no choice but to set it off. And already he could smell it from down the hall.
People started coughing and covering their noses, running from the smell. Gabriel simply covered his nose and grabbed his stuff from his locker, closing it behind him and walking away from it.
Sam leant against the wall around the corner as Gabriel walked past. Gabriel glanced at him and he smirked. Gabriel gave a sort of thoughtful evil look, as though he was planning something. A few seconds later he must've decided on a plan because from that look, even Sam got scared.
~~
Castiel had been avoiding Dean at all costs. There was a possibility that his soulmate wasn't Dean, but it definitely seemed like it. Why else would Charlie ask if Lisa had been at the party and then Dean go off about soulmates?
Castiel sighed as he sat behind the school. He had ditched class. Castiel Novak had ditched class. All to avoid Dean Winchester.
Dean hadn't seemed to notice that Cas suddenly stopped hanging out with them and also didn't seem to care. He was too busy talking to Lisa.
"Hey Castiel," Gabriel said as he walked over to him. "Why are you here?"
"Ditched class to avoid rejecting soulmate," Castiel said. "Why do you stink?"
"Pranked by Sam," Gabriel said. "Rejecting soulmate? You know who it is?"
"I think I do," Castiel said, sighing. "Dean Winchester also has the ability to see colours, and from what Charlie said it seems like he met them at the party. But he can't remember anything."
Gabriel got that thoughtful look again. "Well if he doesn't want you then we'll make him want you. And that happens to fit into my plan."
"What's your plan?" Castiel asked.
"I need to get into the Winchester's house," Gabriel said. "Sam will pay for what he has done. I just need a few minutes to set something up. So if you can get Dean out of the house, Sam too, that'd be great. Take him to a movie or something."
Castiel sighed but nodded, and they walked over to the carpark where their family was waiting.
~~
Roughly two hours later, Castiel and Gabriel showed up at the Winchester's door. A man with black hair and blue eyes opened it, looking carefully at the two boys.
"Uh, is Dean here?" Castiel asked, kind of nervously. "I...uh..."
"Castiel wants to take Dean to a movie, I want to prank Sam," Gabriel said. The man smiled at that.
"Does Sam need to be out of the house?" he asked. Gabriel nodded. "I'll send him down to the shops." The man gestured for them to enter. "John Winchester."
"I'm Castiel and this is my brother Gabriel."
"Novak's?"
Gabriel nodded, looking around the house with curiosity. It was pretty small, with simple worn furniture. But it had a sense of home to it.
"Gabriel, go hide in the kitchen, I'll get them out," John said. Gabriel nodded and walked into the other room while John called the brothers.
Dean and Sam walked through the house, and Dean stopped when he saw Castiel.
"Cas, what are you doing here?" he asked.
"Uh...well I was going to go see Jurassic World and was wondering if maybe you'd like to come?" Castiel said quickly. Dean smiled softly and nodded.
"So why am I here?" Sam asked John.
"I need you to go down to the shops for me," John said. "We're out of a few things, including salt."
"Never understood why salt was so important," Sam muttered, but agreed anyway. Within a few minutes, it was only John and Gabe left in the house.
"So why exactly are you pranking my son?" John asked as Gabriel walked out.
"We're having a prank war," Gabriel said. "He started it."
"Sam started a prank war?" John asked in surprise. "Really? Him?"
"Yeah, he made science blow up in my face," Gabriel said. "Where's the bathroom?"
"Down the hall, second door on the left," John said. Gabriel walked down there and John followed. "May I ask why Castiel seemed way too nervous to ask Dean out?"
Gabriel smirked at the wording. "Cas could see colours after the party," Gabriel said, hoping for some sort of a reaction.
John nodded slowly, his brain processing this. Then he said, "Guess we'll need more rainbow glitter to throw at Dean. I'll text Sam to get some." Then walked out of the room. Gabriel laughed slightly at the though of Dean covered in rainbow glitter and then set up the prank.
It was kind of a cliché prank, but those are always the best. It was pretty easy, he just emptied the shampoo bottle and replaced it with dye. And not the stuff that you could just wash out. It was something Gabriel may or may not have modified so that only the other shampoo he messed with could get it out.
He'd also been told that the dye was hot pink.
Gabriel walked out of the room while laughing to himself, imagining the moose with pink hair. Not that he should know what colour that is, but the tiniest hint of certain colours still hadn't gone away.
As Gabriel left the house he said to John, "I wouldn't use Sam's shampoo if I were you." John nodded, smiling as he realized what Gabe had done, and then Gabriel disappeared leaving no evidence that he had been there.
~~
Castiel and Dean didn't speak much on the way to the movies. Castiel couldn't help glancing at Dean from the corner of his eye as Dean drove them there, and always looked away before Dean could catch him.
So he's my soulmate...thank you universe, you chose well.
"So Cas," Dean said suddenly. "Where have you been this week?"
"What do you mean?" Castiel asked.
"Well you ran off at lunch and we haven't really seen you since," Dean replied, looking over at Cas.
"I was busy," Castiel said, shrugging. "Had work and stuff to do."
Dean nodded slowly and they fell into silence again. Eventually they reached the cinemas and bought tickets for the movie, grabbing some popcorn as well.
They got seats at the back of the theatre, away from most of the other people. Castiel's mind briefly wandered to dirty places but he shook those thoughts from his head. They sat down and the movie started without much more conversation.
Dean made small comments through the movie, some pointing out funny things and some being annoyed. Like the fact that the girl was running from a t-rex in high heels. Like seriously, how would that work at all?
Castiel eventually got a little bit more comfortable next to Dean, and also stole most of the popcorn at some point. When the raptors turned on Owen Cas got really upset and Dean put an arm around him to comfort him, telling him it would have to be okay because it's a movie and they wouldn't give it a horrible ending. And when Dean didn't remove his arm, it was totally completely platonic.
The movie ended and Dean still had an arm around Cas. He seemed to realize this and quickly pulled away, standing as the lights turned on.
"Well that was awesome," Dean said as Cas stood beside him. Castiel smiled at him and they walked out of the cinemas. "Do you need a ride home or something? Or do you wanna do something else?"
Castiel thought for a moment. It wasn't too late, maybe only about 8 or 9. "Maybe we could go somewhere else?" Dean nodded.
"Where would you like to go?" Dean asked. Castiel shrugged.
"You choose, I'm fine with wherever you want to go," he replied.
"Want to go back to my house, we could watch the rest of Sherlock," Dean suggested and Castiel nodded, smiling shyly.
They went back to Dean's house, and Castiel ignored the looks Sam and John gave them. By the look John had, Cas though Gabriel might have told him about the soulmate situation.
They went to Dean's room and Dean got his laptop out. He put it on the bed and sat down, looking over at Castiel standing awkwardly in the middle of the room.
"Well?" he said, gesturing to the bed beside him. "Sit and watch the damn thing." Castiel nodded quickly and sat beside Dean. Dean balanced the laptop on their legs and clicked on the Sherlock episode they were up to.
At one point towards the last episode, Castiel glanced over at Dean to find him already looking at him. They made eye contact and neither looked away. Castiel tilted his head and squinted his eyes, trying to act normal and not flustered by Dean's stare.
"Why are you looking at me?" Cas asked.
"I like your eyes," Dean muttered quietly. "They're blue."
"You can see colour?" Cas asked.
"Yeah," Dean said, his voice still quiet.
"Well," Castiel said. "I like your eyes too. Green. Never seen anything like them before."
"You can see colours too?" Dean asked, surprised.
"Yes," Castiel said. "But my soulmate doesn't exactly want me."
"Well then, we'll make them fall in love with you," Dean said, determination in his voice.
Dean if only you knew, Castiel thought, internally sighing. If only you knew it was you.

So I've figured out that I like writing best from Gabe's perspective. Well I don't really know if it's perspective since this is in third person, but it is usually centering around a character.
And Sabriel colours and Destiel come on you idiots hurry up and figure it out. Getting impatient over my own story...
Also after the last chapter this book got 50 reads in a night...thanks everyone :D
Also Fnaf 4 is out on iPad now...I'm so gonna regret this...
