36 - These Unknown Colours

Hah remember what happened last chapter? Yeah well I'm in class and can't scroll down far enough for that not to be on my screen...

Anyway, time skip!

~8 months later~

Dean walked into the room, throwing his bag down on the floor and flopping onto the couch. He'd just come back from classes at college, Cas was still in his classes.

The colleges they'd gone to were a few states away from their home. Balthazar had also gone to college, but one near home.

The last time they'd seen any of their family was four months ago, they went and visited for a weekend. Dean skyped Sam every other night, and that usually ended with either Gabriel or the other Novak's joining in.

Like I said, every other night. You can probably guess what Dean and Cas did on the other nights...

Kidding, I don't know what they do...

... ;)

Anyway.

Dean had gone to some sort of college that had courses in mechanical engineering and business. Cas's college was for science, and he was doing a course in some type of biology. Such detail we have here.

They'd gotten an apartment about halfway between their colleges, which weren't too far away from each other. They were managing pretty well too, having part time jobs. Well, Cas had a part time job, Dean was struggling a bit too much with college to do so. But Cas was always there for him.

And now, it had been twelve months.

Since what, you ask?

Twelve months since they first saw colours. Well, technically it would be tomorrow, Dean knew the date. And he still had that ring from last year...

Dean walked to their shared room and went into his drawer that Cas never went through. They shared a lot of space, but they still respected the others privacy.

Dean pulled out the small box with the angel wings ring in it. Tomorrow. Tomorrow he'd ask Cas to marry him.

~~

"Gabe."

"Hm?"

"You lazy ass, get off of me."

Gabriel laughed. They were lying on Gabriel's bed, Gabe with his arms and legs wrapped around Sam. "I like it here though."

Sam sighed but Gabe saw him smile. Gabe nuzzled into Sam's neck and Sam wrapped his arms around him.

"If you get off of me we can go prank someone."

"Done," Gabe said, already standing up. Sam laughed and got up too.

They walked out of Gabe's room, past where Anna was studying because they'd already learnt not to mess with her when she was studying. And since she was in her last year of school now they didn't want to ruin that for her.

"Adamandriel is still too cute to prank," Sam said as they walked past Samandriel and Adam's room.

"But that's all the siblings left here," Gabe said sadly. "Raphael, Michael, Lucifer, Cassie, Balthy. All of them aren't here."

"Dude they left like eight months ago."

"Shh." Gabe sighed. "I miss them."

Sam gave him a sympathetic look. "Want to Skype Dean and Cas?"

Gabriel brightened and nodded. They walked back to Gabe's room, getting Sam's laptop out, sitting on the bed and calling Dean on Skype.

Dean answered in a few minutes, but he looked a bit worried.

"You okay Dean?" Sam asked.

"Yeah I'm fine," Dean replied, running a hand through his hair.

"Is Cassie there?"

"No he's still in classes," Dean said. "You guys have to help me."

"With what?"

"How the hell do I propose to Cas?"

"Well what you do," Gabe said. "Is get down on one knee, pull out the ring box, open it, ask—"

"Not what I meant," Dean said. "I know how to propose. But how do I propose?"

"Dean rethink that sentence," Sam said. Dean thought for a few seconds.

"Okay fine," Dean said. "How do I lead up to the proposal?"

"Make some big cute speech," Gabe said. "Cassie loves those."

"And I suck at those."

"You've got to try at least," Sam said. "It's the thought that counts."

Dean sighed. "Okay. Okay I'll try."

The sound of a door opening came from Dean's side of the call, and as Dean turned around to look he immediately smiled.

"Hello Dean," Cas said, walking to sit beside him on the couch. "Sam, Gabriel."

"Cassie!" Gabriel yelled. "I miss you."

Cas smiled. "We miss you guys too."

"There isn't even an I anymore, it's always we," Gabe said. "Cas you can be your own person."

"I don't want to be," Cas said, turning to Dean. Dean smiled softly at him, love evident in his eyes. Cas leaned forward and kissed Dean quickly, getting a sound of disgust from Gabriel.

"Keep it off screen," Gabe said. Cas laughed and Dean smiled, putting an arm around Cas.

Then Sam and Gabriel realized something.

"Holy shit Dean!" Sam yelled. "You're gonna pr—" Gabe slammed his hand over Sam's mouth.

Cas looked at them confused. "What were you talking about before?"

"Nothing," Gabe said quickly, releasing Sam. Sam just looked at Dean with wide eyes.

"About time," Sam muttered so the computer wouldn't pick up the sound. Gabe nodded in agreement.

"Riight well," Cas said. "We are going now, we have things to do."

"Yeah, each other," Gabe said.

"Exactly," Cas said before ending the call.

"Didn't need to know that," Sam said, scrunching his nose up adorably. Gabe smiled at him before leaning in to kiss him, one hand on Sam's cheek. Sam deepened the kiss immediately, his arms wrapping around Gabe's waist.

Let's leave it at that shall we, they made out for a while.

~~

Uhh let's go to the next day because we all know what Destiel is currently doing.

Dean woke up spooning Cas. They may also have no clothes on.

Dean smiled at the sleepy Cas and gently moved away as not to wake him. He got dressed and moved out to the kitchen.

Cas had classes today but Dean had none, so he had time to set something up for Cas...but what?

"Morning Dean," Cas said from the doorway, wearing one of Dean's shirts and boxers, tiredly rubbing his eyes. Dean smiled and walked over to him, pulling him into a hug and kissing him softly.

"You know what today is right?" Dean asked with a smile.

(I legit keep typing Dean as Dena)

"Hmm," Cas said teasingly. "Thursday?"

"What else?" Dean said.

"The day of restocking on food?"

"Try again."

"Hmm I don't know, what is today Dean?" Cas had an adorable smirk on his face.

"Oh you know," Dean said casually. "Just the one year anniversary of when we met."

"It's only been a year huh," Cas said thoughtfully. "It feels like forever."

"Yeah," Dean said. "This past year though..."

"Best year of my life," Cas finished, smiling up at Dean with sparkling blue eyes. Dean smiled and leaned down to kiss Cas again.

"As much as I would like to continue this," Cas said, pulling away, "I have classes soon."

"Fine," Dean huffed. He moved away to let Cas get ready for classes.

Within half an hour, Cas had left the apartment leaving Dean to figure things out.

Dean sat there for the next three hours trying to get his thoughts together.

Yeah good job Dean.

When he realized that half his time was gone, he sprung up. He got a few things ready in the house, made a few phone calls, put on a suit and then went to pick Cas up.

When Cas got out of his class, he saw the Impala waiting for him and walked over, confused.

"Dean?" Cas said, getting in the car and seeing Dean all dressed up.

"We're going out for dinner," Dean said. "You have no say in the matter." Cas smiled slightly. "And you always wear your suit under the trenchcoat so we're good to go."

"Where to?" Cas asked.

"It's a surprise," Dean said with a smile.

He drove through the streets until they reached a five star restaurant. Cas's eyes went wide as he realized that's where they were going.

"Dean we can't afford this..."

"I have a few savings you know."

"Siblings?"

"Yeah."

"We really shouldn't steal their money."

"They insisted."

Cas smiled slightly and shook his head. "Didn't think they cared that much."

Dean smiled despite himself. The Novak siblings had been more than willing to lend Dean money for the proposal...

They walked into the restaurant where they were taken to their table, a nice secluded one near the fireplace.

"Wow this place is fancy," Cas said.

"Do you think they sell pie?" Dean asked.

"Or burgers?" Cas joked. Dean laughed as they sat down.

As the night went on, them talking over whatever fancy meals they'd ordered, Dean was constantly reaching into his pocket and turning over the small velvet box in his hand. It wasn't like Cas would say no, but he was still nervous.

"Dean is something on your mind?" Cas said. "You've seemed a little distracted."

"It's nothing Cas," Dean said. "I just can't believe it's been a year."

Cas smiled brightly.

The night continued on, they finished their meal and had a shared desert. And their waitress saw that they were together and totally started shipping them. And asked if they were soulmates.

They got to the end of the meal, and Dean stood up to go and pay, and he thought in that moment Cas looked a little disappointed.

"Is that Luci's credit card?" Cas asked as Dean paid. "How did you convince him to give you that?"

"Gabriel stole it," Dean said. "I'll give it back."

Cas just laughed.

They got in the Impala, and on the way home Cas opened his mouth to say something.

"Dean was I getting the wro—"

"Cas. The night's not over yet."

Dean didn't look over at Cas but he could feel Cas's eyes on him.

They got home and walked inside, Dean taking Cas's hand as they walked in through the door. He led Cas to the living room, where he had the lamps on low and music playing softly.

"Cas," Dean said, taking Cas's other hand as they stood in the middle of the room. "You know I love you right?"

"You say it every day," Cas said with a smile. "I love you too Dean."

Dean smiled. He leaned down and kissed Cas gently, before pulling away and twirling Cas to the music. Cas laughed and moved his arms around Dean, gently swaying to the beat of the music. Dean wrapped his arms around Cas, leaning down so his head rested on Cas's shoulder.

They did that for a while, even as the song changed. And all the while Dean was getting his thoughts together. He didn't want to mess this up.

"Cas," Dean said softly, pulling back slightly so he could look Cas in those blue eyes of his. "One year ago today, we went to a party. We were both drunk like the idiots we were, and got too drunk to remember the best moment of my life.

"The morning after the party, I woke up to see colours. I didn't know who, I even thought it was a girl dammit. I didn't know then that these unknown colours would create such a big change in my life. It took a while, but I figured it out.

"I may have questioned my sexuality around about then, but not for one moment did I regret it being you. Not for one moment did I wish it was anyone else. Because Cas, I couldn't wish for anyone better."

Cas was smiling brightly, tears starting to shine in his eyes.

"And since then," Dean said. "Since that moment, my life has become so much better. Everyday is amazing because you're here, and I couldn't ask for anything more. I don't need anything more. All I need is you.

"Castiel, I love you more than anything else in this world. I love you more than the Impala even. You've done so much for me, you even managed to get me from falling into a coma. You're my bee, my angel. You came stumbling into my life, and now I don't ever want you to leave."

Dean took a deep breath. "So, Castiel James Novak," he said as he got down on one knee, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the ring box. Cas wasn't able to stop the tears falling now. "Will you marry me?"

"Yes," Cas managed to whisper out, his voice threatening to crack from his emotions. "Dean Winchester, yes."

Dean smiled brightly and put the angel wing ring on Cas's finger, then stood up and pulled him close into a kiss. When they broke apart Dean pulled Cas into a tight hug.

"I love you Cas," Dean said softly.

"I love you too Dean," Cas replied.

:) I don't normally write speeches but that needed one...I also have a good idea for a Sabriel proposal...but they're still young so maybe I'll time skip.

I'm in a really happy mood, I'm going to virtually hug everyone *hugs everyone*

I'm also driving for the first time tomorrow...well if I crash at least I left this on a happy chapter. But I'm trying to be optimistic, so hey I'll do fine...if I'm even tall enough to see over the damn steering wheel.
