31 - Under the Glow of Fairy Lights

Here, have an entirely Sabriel chapter :P

"Sammy?"

"Hmm?"

"You okay? You've kinda been zoned out since you introduced yourself."

"Yeah I'm good."

Gabriel gave him a concerned look. "Well...if you were you would've pranked me by now."

Sam looked up at Gabriel, realizing he was right. He'd glued Gabriel's pencil to his hand, and since Gabe thought he still needed to reenact.

"Oh...I do remember I just...somethings on my mind."

"Wanna talk about it?" Gabe asked, the concerned look still there.

"Maybe later," Sam said. "I need to figure something out first."

"Okay," Gabe said, nodding in understanding. "I'll be here when you want to talk."

"Thanks," Sam said, smiling at Gabriel. Then he realized Gabe looked nervous. Well obviously, this was the first time they'd actually talked properly and happily since the crash. But then he realized Gabe must've been thinking Sam didn't remember the prank, that it'd stopped working. Sam winced. He'd have to be a bit more careful.

"Soo," Gabe said kind of awkwardly. "You going to come over for the soap later?"

"Yeah," Sam said with equal amounts of awkwardness. What the hell was he supposed to do?

"Okay," Gabe said.

The bell rung at that moment, and they both stood, leaving the classroom without saying another word. Gabe went to the Novak's car while Sam walked to the Impala.

"We going over to the Novak's?" Dean asked, already leaning against the black car with Cas beside him. Sam nodded, staring at nothing. "You okay?"

"Fine," Sam said. "Actually...I'm great. Holy shit I'm awesome Dean."

"Uhh okay?"

"I remember."

Dean stared at him for a second before stepping forward and pulling his younger brother into a tight hug. "Why aren't you with Gabriel?" he asked as he pulled away.

"I haven't told him..." Sam said quietly.

"Why not?" Cas asked. "You know how he must feel right now."

"Yeah I do," Sam said. "So I want to do something special for him. I don't know what though."

"Reenact some stuff, quote yourself, be romantic," Dean said.

"Like you can talk about romance."

"Hey I'm romantic as hell!"

"Sure you are Dean."

"I've got to agree with Sam here," Cas said with a small smirk. Dean gaped at him.

"I can be romantic," he protested.

"Well then, prove it," Cas said. "Poems are romantic, do that."

"You're kidding," Dean said, giving Cas such a done look.

"Nope," Cas said, his smile widening.

"Fine," Dean said. "Lemme think."

"He's gonna fail," Sam said to Cas who nodded.

"Okay I've got it," Dean said. "Castiel. You can fall out of an airplane, you can fall out of a tree. But baby the best way to fall, is in love with me."

"Holy shit he actually did it," Sam said. "And that wasn't even bad."

Cas just chuckled before pulling Dean into a soft kiss.

"I'll just wait in the car," Sam said, awkwardly stepping around them. Dean gave him a thumbs up while still kissing Cas to which Sam rolled his eyes.

Eventually Sam got Dean and Cas apart, and they headed over to the Novak's house. Dean and Cas disappeared to Cas's room, while Sam walked into Gabriel's room.

Gabriel was lying on his bed, hands behind his bed and looking up at the ceiling. He looked up as Sam walked in and stood up.

"I know it's just small things," Gabe said, "but you keep doing things wrong...you were supposed to wait downstairs."

Sam winced. "Don't jump to conclusions, I do remember what I'm supposed to do. But this just seems so familiar, it kind of escapes my mind."

"Okay," Gabe said with a small smile. "So..."

"Dye?"

"Yep." Gabe walked over to where his bag was and grabbed a bottle out, throwing it to Sam. Sam caught it and checked it just like before, to find the liquid blue.

"Gaaabe. It's blue dye."

Gabe chuckled, already having the other bottle in his hand. He threw that one to Sam, and Sam put them both back in his bag.

"I did say I wanted something in return," Gabe said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Oh?" Sam said. "And what would that be?"

"Well," Gabe said, walking closer to Sam. "You could probably guess what I want from you."

"Nope," Sam said, smirking. "You're going to have to tell me."

"Always making me do all the work," Gabe teased, now standing right in front of Sam but not touching him.

"Well if you don't do anything," Sam said. "It's just going to end with me teasing you again."

Gabe was silent for a moment. "You...remember that?"

Before Gabe could properly get that through his head, Sam leaned down and kissed him. Except it wasn't like the other kisses they'd had when Sam couldn't remember, because this was now familiar again. Sam remembered this.

Gabe responded immediately, his arms resting around Sam's neck as they always did as Sam's hands rested on Gabe's hips, pulling him closer.

Surprisingly, Gabe was the one to pull away. "Sammy come on, you don't remember. Why are you...?"

"Just because I don't remember doesn't mean I don't want you," Sam said, hating having to lie. But he wanted to surprise Gabe...

Gabe sighed, stepping away from Sam. "But...you don't remember me."

Sam winced, looking down at Gabriel. "Gabe..."

"I'm gonna go get a drink, clear my head...you stay here Sammy." With that Gabe left the room.

Sam watched him go, a pain in his chest. He hated seeing Gabe sad.

"Yeah, hiding it is really helping you," Dean said from the doorway.

"Shut up," Sam said. "What do I do?"

"You tell him," Cas said. His hair looked messed up. More than usual. The hell were they doing?

"I want to do something..."

"Then do something," Dean said. "Today. Don't put it off any longer. Want us to help?"

"You're due to go back to your house soon," Cas said. "Maybe we could set something up there?"

Sam thought for a few moments before brightening. "In the backyard. Do what you want but make it nice. Also sparklers."

Dean smiled, seeing where Sam was going with this. "We'll text you when it's ready." Him and Cas ran off, both happy to help their younger siblings be happy again.

~~

Gabe leaned against the counter, a cup of water in his hand. It hurt, he wouldn't deny that. It hurt that Sam couldn't remember everything that'd happened since they got together. Even though it hadn't been long, it still meant a lot to him.

He took a deep breath, drinking the rest of the water. He had to keep appearances up, for the sake of reenacting everything. He was hoping that Sam would remember everything when they reached the point where they had actually gotten together, but that was high hopes.

Gabe walked back to his room, where Sam was suddenly looking really happy.

"Mood change?" Gabe teased. Sam just chuckled.

"Nah I just figured out that thing on my mind," Sam said.

"Ready to talk about it yet?"

"Later. I promise. When we're at my house."

"Okay...now, I know that last time we did this—"

"We pranked your siblings."

"Yes. We can't do that again, my parents will kill me."

Sam chuckled. "We could watch Doctor Who instead?"

"I guess but..."

"We flooded the rooms, glitter in Luci's room, feather's in Michael's room, bees in Cas's, hacked Balthy's laptop, dyed Anna's hair, hid Alfie's games. I remember."

"You just used nicknames for them."

"I wonder where I get that from," Sam said, looking pointedly at Gabe.

Gabe chuckled, before walking over to sit on his bed, Sam sitting beside him. Quite close to him. As close as they did when they were together...

Gabe put on the latest episode of Doctor Who. Then they watched the Sherlock special, laughing and commenting on all the small amazing details. Like Mycroft. And Lestrade's sideburns.

Towards the end of Sherlock Sam got a text. Gabe glanced over as Sam read it, watching the small smile form on Sam's face.

"Who is it?" Gabe asked.

"Dean," Sam said. "Being Dean."

Gabe shrugged and continued watching Sherlock.

At the end, Sam literally jumped up, looking excited. Then he got another text and pouted as he read it.

"Uhh...by any chance could I wash out the dye before we go back to my place?" Sam asked.

"Sure," Gabe said. "You know where the bathroom is. I mean..."

"End of the hall," Sam said, already walking out of the room. Gabe watched him leave curiously.

Sam was being weird. It seemed like he remembered more than he was saying. But he said he didn't, so there must still be gaps.

Gabe sighed and flopped back on the bed. This was way too emotionally stressful.

A couple of minutes later, Sam came back with a towel on his head, trying to dry his hair. Gabe laughed as he gave up and threw the towel, his hair sticking up on weird angles. Also back to its normal dark brown colour.

Gabe walked over the threaded his fingers through Sam's hair, making it neat again. Sam looked down at Gabe with a fond expression as he did.

"There," Gabe said, taking a step back and admiring his work. Sam's hair looked pretty much normal. "Um...yeah let's go now." Gabe walked past Sam and out the door. "Race you to your house?" he called out, already starting to run. He heard Sam running after him and smirked.

In a few more minutes, they were at the Winchester house and out of breath. Sam looked excited again.

"What's got you so happy?" Gabe asked.

"You," Sam said with a smile before walking inside. Gabe gave him another curious look before following him.

Instead of going to Sam's room like he expected them to, Sam led them out to the backyard. And Gabe stood in the back doorway in surprise as he saw the garden.

Dean and Cas had done well with the short amount of time given to them. Since they knew it would be dark when Sam and Gabe got back, they got out a bunch of fairy lights, threading them through the branches of the trees and along the back wall of the house. There were small lanterns hanging around the place too, all of it lit up to cast a yellow glow throughout the garden.

"You..." Gabe said slowly. "When did you...?"

"Dean and Cas set it up," Sam said, smiling widely. "Come here." Gabe could do nothing except what Sam said. It was obvious that Sam had planned this for something...

"Gabriel," Sam said, reaching out to hold one of Gabe's hands in the middle of the garden. In the other he placed a stick of some sort. "I know it's no fireworks, but still." It was a sparkler.

"You...remember," Gabe said, remembering the fireworks from the night of the carnival, on the ferris wheel. Sam just smiled and pulled a lighter out of his pocket. He lit the sparkler in each of their hands, and they watched as the two of them lit up with sparks matching the colour of the light.

Gabe smiled as he watched them, leaning against Sam as he had on the ferris wheel.

"You know," Sam said. "While you were watching the fireworks, I was kinda watching you." He looked a little sheepish as Gabe looked up at him. "And I was thinking, couldn't ask for anyone better to be my soulmate. I'd already figured it out."

"How do you..."

Sam just put a finger to Gabriel's lips, silencing him. The sparklers died out and Sam pretty much just threw them away.

"And the next day, you told me everything. And I promised I'd always be there for you. I didn't lie Gabe, not even amnesia will keep us apart."

Tears started coming to Gabe's eyes as he realized it...Sam remembered everything.

"And then we were together," Sam said. "And I teased you. Which I believe..." He started guiding Gabe over to the wall of the house, Gabe's back pressed against the wall. "Ended with us right here, kissing for the first time." Sam leaned down and kissed Gabe gently. Gabriel immediately deepened the kiss, finally having Sam back. Sam chuckled against Gabe's lips and got his arms under Gabe's legs, picking him up so they were the same height and leaning him against the wall of the house.

"You remember," Gabe said, pulling away for a moment before kissing Sam again. "Everything?"

"Everything," Sam confirmed. "I am so sorry for what I did when I couldn't remember."

"Don't apologize, you didn't know."

"Can I apologize for getting hit by a car?"

"That wasn't your fault."

"Well someone needs to say sorry."

Gabe laughed softly. "You're back," he said, still incredulous of the fact. "You're really back..."

"Yeah," Sam said, smiling. "And this time I'm staying. I swear on my life, and yours. I'm staying."

Gabe made a sound that was half laugh, half sob, burying his head into Sam's shoulder. He'd deny the tear that fell down his cheek later, but right now all that mattered was Sam.

Sam wrapped his arms tightly around Gabriel, holding him close as for the first time since the crash, they were together again. Truely together.

And they stayed there under the glow of the fairy lights, holding each other close for as long as they wanted.

Happiness for everyone :) And only happiness left. No more sad feels. I didn't actually mean for this to be entirely Sabriel, but hey it worked out :P Although now that I have no storyline to work around, that means it's gonna end soon...don't worry, I've still got a few plans left :)

So I randomly bought a shirt mainly coz it had angel wings on the back...yeah I have an obsession. Just wings, I love them.

Aaanyway, I really enjoyed writing this chapter. I think it's kinda obvious that Sabriel is my OTP :P

*Gives you all Milky Ways*
