1 - How About a Cliché Start?
Sam woke up to hear his brother shuffling around downstairs. He glanced over at the clock beside his bed and groaned, 6:30am. He pulled himself out of bed to get ready for the torture known as school. Of course he didn't think of it like that though.
Dean gave him annoyed look as Sam ran down the stairs, throwing an apple at his little brother. Sam caught it with ease as they walked out of the house, Dean locking it behind him. "You weren't up first for once?"
"I was studying last night," Sam said. Dean just gave him a seriously look, before shrugging his bag over his shoulder.
"I don't see what you find so interesting about the whole soulmates thing," Dean said before opening the door to his 67 black Chevy Impala, or as he called it, his Baby.
Sam sighed as he got in the passenger seat. He found the soulmate idea fascinating.
Everyone in the world was born without the ability to see colours. When you first met your soulmate, the colours would suddenly appear, simple as that. It wasn't always necessarily talking to the person, anything that could count to a certain level of knowing the person would work. No one knew why or how this happened, it was just one of the miracles of the universe. Dean however hated the idea of it, wanting to control his own future.
Sam Winchester was 15 years old in year 10, and Dean 19 in year 12. Their dad, John Winchester wasn't around much, trying to work enough to support the poor family. Their mother had died in a house fire, leaving John devastated and back without colours.
The black Impala rolled up to the school, Dean's music easily audible from the school building. Sam got out of the car and waved a quick goodbye to Dean.
"Hey!" Dean called after him. "I have a party tonight, you okay to walk home?" Sam rolled his eyes and nodded.
"Don't make me have to drag you home again!" Sam shouted back.
Sam walked through the familiar hallways of the school. It was about halfway through the second semester in the school year, and pretty easy for him being the straight A student. But just because everyone thought Sam was one of the perfect students didn't exactly make it so. In fact, he had the ability to be quite the opposite.
Sam opened his locker, grabbing the books for his first and second classes, art and then science. He glanced around before quickly gabbing a small bottle and putting it in his bag, smirking as he did.
~~~~~~
Dean yawned lazily as he opened his locker, several things almost falling out in the mess. He grabbed a few books before slamming it shut, heading to his first class. Maths. What kind of cruel idiot gives maths in first period?
When he entered the classroom he put his books down on the desk, sliding in beside Charlie, his best friend and an absolute nerd. Because nerds are cool.
"Hey bitch," she said, not looking up from her phone. "See the new Game of Thrones?"
"No and if you dare spoil it you won't live to see the rest of the season," Dean said. Charlie gaped at him.
"No fair," she whined, putting her phone back in her bag. "Ready for torture?"
"Who's ever ready for torture?"
Obviously, maths was a bore. Dean entertained himself by looking around the classroom, making bets with Charlie about who they would see at Balthazar's party. Balthazar was well known for the parties he threw, mainly due to the help from his older brother Lucifer. Yes, someone called their kid Lucifer.
"Nah, he doesn't look like the party type," Dean said in reply to Charlie who had pointed out someone.
"Yeah I agree there," Charlie said. "What about him?" Dean followed Charlie's gaze to see one of the quiet kids. His hair appeared to be black and could be described as 'sex-hair'. His eyes which Dean could only just see looked like they would be bright if Dean could see any colour. But like most kids his age, everything was just in greys. The guy had a light coloured trench coat on and was focusing hard on his work.
"Nah I don't think so," Dean said. "He looks like one of those quiet perfect kids. Like Sammy."
"Well he's gonna be there," Charlie replied. "He has to be."
"What makes you say that?"
"Castiel Novak. Balthazar's brother."
"Him? No way, seriously?" Dean spun back to look at the kid again. There was no way the two could be related. They were so different.
"The Novak's are all different. Not one of them looks like the others. And you are going to talk to him tonight, one way or the other."
"What why?" Dean gave Charlie an incredulous look.
"Chemistry, that's why." Charlie said and turned back to her work before giving Dean a proper explanation.
~~~~~
Gabriel Novak pulled the sucker out of his pocket, putting his feet up on the desk. He was in science, having come straight from art.
Today all they were doing was some chemical reactions prac. It was pretty easy, so long as you got the right chemicals.
Gabriel lazily put the chemicals in the beaker, waiting for the small reaction that was supposed to happen. Something to do with a colour change in the liquid. Although that is not at all what he got.
As he tipped one of the chemicals in, the mixture seemingly exploded, getting some weird substance all over Gabriel.
The teacher came running over, looking at the mess Gabriel had made. "Seriously? This was a simple prac, what did you do wrong?"
"Nothing, I swear!" Gabriel said. Mr Alistair glared at him, and grabbed one of the bottles of chemicals.
"This would be your problem. Instead of sodium oxide you used sodium nitrate. Where did you even get this?" Alistair glared at Gabriel who was looking at the small bottle in shock.
"I have no idea, it was here when I came in." Gabriel protested.
"Yeah sure," Alistair said. Of course Gabriel being known as the Trickster wouldn't help in this situation.
"Mr Alistair, he's right," one of the kids said. Alistair turned to glare at him, waiting for an explanation. "You got me to set all of this up, I remember thinking the bottle looked different, but I couldn't tell the colour difference. It all looks grey to us. Someone must've gotten into the supplies earlier."
Gabriel stared at the moose helping him out. Ridiculously tall, a long mop of dark hair and an eyes that were an interesting mixture of grey. Maybe they were green or hazel or something, but yet again, no colours to be seen here.
"Fine," Alistair snapped. "Just make sure it doesn't happen again. Gabriel clean up your mess immediately." Gabriel nodded and started cleaning up the mess as Alistair walked away. While he was cleaning it up he didn't see the tall boy smirk behind his hand or the correct bottle that had been slipped into his own backpack.
Later at lunch, Gabriel sat with the Novak's at their usual table. He told them of how he been pranked and all they did was laugh.
"So the Trickster's been tricked," Balthazar said. Gabriel growled and slammed a note down on the table. He had found the correct bottle in his bag with a note attached.
'You're not the only Trickster around here,' It said.
"What are you going to do?" Anna asked.
"I declare war on this other trickster," Gabriel said, his voice low and dangerous. "He'll regret he even tried crossing me."
"Are you sure that's smart?" Castiel asked. "How can you start a prank war without even knowing the identity of the other person?"
"I'll find him, and then he'll regret he tried crossing me."
"Wow, great plan you've got there," Balthazar said, rolling his eyes.
Of the Novak siblings, only Gabriel, Castiel, Balthazar, Anna and Samandriel were at school. Michael, Lucifer and Raphael were all in college. Michael and Lucifer were both 20 while Raphael was 21. Gabriel was 16, Samandriel was 14, Castiel and Balthazar were both 18 and Anna was 17. It was true that they were all adopted by the awesome Chuck and Becky Novak.
"I'll figure it out," Gabriel said. "Anyway, party tonight?"
"You will hide in your room and not come out," Castiel said. "Don't try and steal the alcohol again."
"Oh come on Cassie, you're no fun," Balthazar said. "Let him join us for once. You know he'll try anyway." Castiel rolled his eyes but didn't argue further.
After lunch Gabriel went to his final class of the day, double English. The teacher wasn't really paying attention, too busy working on his so called novel. He asked the class to call him Metatron and was so obviously creepy.
"So, Kevin," Gabriel said, walking up to his classmate and putting his arm around his shoulders. Kevin glared at him.
"What do you want?" he asked.
"I just want to know about that science class earlier," Gabriel said. "I know you help set the things up. Do you have any idea who swapped the chemicals?"
"No idea," Kevin said. "I set up half the stuff while Sam sets up the other half, the half you were in."
"Sam, as in Sam Winchester?" Gabriel had heard of the Winchesters, the older one Dean gaining quite a reputation amongst the girls in the school. Not many people knew about the younger sibling though.
"Yeah, that's him," Kevin said. He pushed Gabriel's arm away and turned back to his work, completely ignoring the other boy. Gabriel shrugged and went back to his own desk.
I'll have to interrogate Sam then, Gabe thought. Although...Dean could be a problem. Dean also had a reputation for making sure no one messed with his younger brother. Or maybe I should wait to see if this other trickster strikes again.
~~~
Castiel looked around as Balthazar set up the party. They had left school early to set up, leaving Anna and Gabriel there. They could easily walk home.
"You'll be joining us right Cassie?" Balthazar asked his 'twin' brother.
"You know how I feel about parties," Castiel said, shrugging his trench coat off.
"Oh come on, at least have a few drinks," Balthazar said, holding a beer out to the other brother. Lucifer appeared out of no where and took the beer. Balthazar glared at the older brother and grabbed another one for Castiel.
"Come on Castiel, you know you want to," Lucifer said. Castiel sighed and took the beer, making what would be the first mistake in a night of many more.
As guests began to arrive, Castiel gave up and actually tried to enjoy the party. And of course, he got drunk. Very drunk. Enough that there was absolutely no way he'd remember anything from the night before, especially meeting a certain green eyed boy. He wouldn't even remember the world bursting into colours as he met said green eyed boy.
So there we have it, the first chapter of my first fanfiction. How'd I do guys? Is it good, is it bad? Shall I keep going?
I don't normally write romance but I thought it'd be cool to try it, considering I read a hell of a lot of it anyway. Hopefully it'll work good :D
Oh and the chemical reaction part, I have no idea about what would make that reaction, I just chose random chemicals from my last science lesson.
And now to return back to totally not stalking the actors...*backs out of room slowly*
