Kyungsoo led the way to the center of the festival while Jun-Oh trailed behind him. Chanyeol and Soojin lingered in the back. There was barely a sliver of purple in the horizon as the sun left the sky. Fireworks could go off any minute.
"The night sky is so beautiful," Soojin awed as she tilted her head back to look at the stars.
"You know who's even more beautiful?" Chanyeol asked with a smirk.
Soojin hesitated and felt her head skip a beat. Is he really going to... "Who?"
Chanyeol smiled warmly and returned his blissful gaze to the sky. "Me," he whispered.
Soojin fell silent for a mintue, feeling a bit hurt that he didn't direct it towards her. "You're ridiculous," she scoffed. Ew, why am I disappointed? Soojin crossed her arms and adverted her eyes.
"What?" Chanyeol chuckled. "Why are you scrunching your nose like that?"
Soojin covered her nose from being self-conscious. "I am not."
"I'm so excited for these fireworks," Jun-Oh commented. "Soojin, you know those fireworks your dad sets off every year?"
Soojin's disappointment began to melt away as she laughed. "Yeah, he's really into it."
"I remember one year when he set the trailer on fire."
"He's kind a dork."
Jun-Oh snickered. "Just a little." As the four came across a nice place to stand in the park, Jun-Oh sighed. "I'm going to miss those fireworks your dad sets off when I go to China." In the near distance, she saw someone click a lighter where the fireworks were set up. "I think they're about to start."
A firework shot into the sky with a whistle sound and exploded into bright green.
"Ooh, that one is so pretty." Jun-Oh smiled while taking in the beautiful colors lighting up the night sky.
Soojin smiled and nodded, watching more shoot into the air. Her eyes fell to Jun-Oh, but also caught sight of Kyungsoo. Instead of watching the fireworks, his warm expression had landed on Jun-Oh as she looked at the sky with admiration. Soojin nudged Chanyeol to get him to see the situation.
Chanyeol immediately noticed this when Soojin got his attention. He rubbed his hands mischievously while coming up with a quick plan.
"What's with the mischievous behavior?" Soojin questioned in a whisper.
"Haha!" Chanyeol began to give a fake laugh. "Soojin, that's so funny!" Chanyeol brought up both his hands and gave Soojin a hard shove in Jun-Oh direction. As soon as she collided with Jun-Oh, Chanyeol pulled her back into his arms.
"What the he—" Soojin tried to say, but Chanyeol stopped her by clamping his hand over her mouth.
Chanyeol took small steps while pulling Soojin back with him to give Jun-Oh and Kyungsoo some space.
From the impact, Jun-Oh lost her balance and began to fall. However, Kyungsoo was there to catch her. The two locked eyes as soon and Jun-Oh was steadied in Kyungsoo's arms.
"I'm s-sorry," Jun-Oh apologized to Kyungsoo.
Soojin realized why Chanyeol pushed her and grinned. "You're a genius," she whispered.
"I know." Chanyeol's expression showed how proud he was of his idea.
"You don't have to apologize," Kyungsoo told Jun-Oh as he still held her. "Um..." he trailed off, caught in the moment.
Everyone's hearts were racing, especially Jun-Oh and Kyungsoo's.
"Are they going to kiss?" Soojin questioned in a quiet voice. She grabbed onto Chanyeol's shirt in anticipation.
Kyungsoo swallowed hard, gaining the strength to lean closer. He gently shut his eyes as he closed in.
"Ohmygod," Chanyeol breathed while Jun-Oh closed her eyes.
"They're actually kissing." Soojin started jumping with Chanyeol.
As Jun-Oh and Kyungsoo finally kissed, a large firework exploded overhead during a finale.
Soojin turned to face Chanyeol with a wide grin. "We did!"
"We're like actual cupids!" He raised his hand to give Soojin a high-five, who quickly returned one.
The smiles faded slowly as they saw the fireworks reflect in each other's eyes. Without hesitation, Chanyeol snaked his arm around Soojin and pulled her closer for a kiss.
Soojin froze at the sudden action, but happily melted into his arms just as another large firework went off.
Jun-Oh's laugh erupted behind the two. "We did it!" she hollered.
Soojin and Chanyeol pulled away with confusion. Their heads turned at the same time to see Jun-Oh and Kyungsoo celebrating while holding hands.
"That was easy," Kyungsoo snickered.
"What are you talking about?" Chanyeol questioned while his arm still stayed around Soojin.
"Getting you guys together obviously," Jun-Oh informed, still laughing.
"I don't understand." Soojin cocked her head to the side. "We were trying to get..."
"Trying to get us together?" Kyungsoo pointed at himself and Jun-Oh. "We were dating this whole time."
Chanyeol and Soojin were speechless for a minute, trying to wrap their brains around this.
"I'm utterly lost," Soojin eventually spoke up.
Kyungsoo sighed. "You can into Universe the day after I gave Jun-Oh my number, or when Chanyeol gave her my number. Chanyeol was working the register while I was in the back. I heard you guys talking and stood by the door to listen. That's when I found out about the whole mix up and that you wanted to get us together."
"I actually did end up going back later and it was Chanyeol's break. Kyungsoo told me what he heard," Jun-Oh added on. "We decided to get you back and trick you into hanging out. We spent a lot of time together when you guys didn't know. Things just kind of fell into place." Jun-Oh shrugged with a smile on her face.
"But what about you guys being awkward, and shyly laughing at the dunking booth?" Soojin questioned.
"Acting." Jun-Oh winked. "It was all part of the plan."
"So you're telling me," Chanyeol started with narrowed eyes, "not only did my genius plan work in a way I didn't mean it to... but I also scored?"
"I guess so," Kyungsoo replied.
"I-I'm still in shock," Soojin put in.
"You guys are together?" Chanyeol pointed at Kyungsoo and Jun-Oh.
They both nodded in response.
Chanyeol directed his eyes to Soojin, pointing at himself and her. "Are we together?"
Soojin face-palmed.
"You have to put more effort into it than that," Kyungsoo chuckled.
"I can't believe we were fooled like that," Chen added to the conversation with a laugh.
"Chen?" Chanyeol looked at his friend. "When did you get here?"
Chen's smile dropped. "We were working at the dunking booth together and I joined you guys to watch the fireworks, remember?"
Chanyeol and Kyungsoo glanced at each other and began to nod. "Oh yeah, yeah we remember," they tried to convince him simultaneously.
