Chapter 2: What?

I think I sprained my ankle....

My eyes slowly opened as I exhaled in pain. Sharp dark eyes looked down at me in confusion.

Wow.

"Are you alright?" He carefully questioned.

I looked at him upside-down due to my position and awkwardly laughed, "Yes!"

Seeing that I was having a bit of trouble getting up, he placed his hand out for me.

As he helped me stand up, I felt a shock in my hands. I gasped at the stinging pain and quickly backed my hand away, which made it stop.

I looked up to him and we made eye contact again. He narrowed his eyes before he spoke again, "Are you Princess Kazia?"

I sighed. "Where is Esla?"

"I have not seen her today." He replied nonchalantly.

I'm going insane.

Before I could question him again, I finally spotted Esla.

Her eyes widened when she saw us, "Oh no."

"What is going on?!" I crossed my arms.

The man next to me slightly narrowed his eyes again, trying to figure the situation out as well.

Esla quickly turned towards him, "My apologies, Prince Ehryan, she just arrived, she is a bit... disoriented."

He nodded, "I see, traveling back for the first time in a while must be draining. I shall formally introduce myself when she is better." He slightly bowed his head before leaving.

I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Who is he? And where are we?! No, what are you?!"

"Um, well, I don't know how to explain," She nervously looked around me, avoiding my eyes as she stuttered.

"Okay, just please stay away from me!" I sternly demanded, slight amount of fear in my words.

Before I could continue walking, I heard someone call my name. The voice seemed a bit familiar, but I could not quite remember.

Once I looked back, I felt all the confusion melt away as my mind went blank.

My parents stood there as I tried to vocalize all the questions that were spinning through my head at the same time. I began to feel dizzy and out of breath.

~ Unknown ~

I woke up on a very soft surface. My eyes shifted around the room as I remembered what had happened until a knock at the door interrupted my hazy thoughts.

The woman who called the guards greeted me, "My name is Grace, I will be helping you around here. You must have a lot of questions," She paused, "I was told that you had quite the fever. Seems that you are better now, thankfully."

She continued, "Your parents wish to speak to you whenever you are ready after you eat, of course." She placed a tray with food on the bed.

I did not have an appetite.

After failing to convince me to eat or change into new clothes, she brought me downstairs.

My mind had gone quiet as I approached the very expensive-looking living room, my mother spoke, "Please take a seat."

Anger seemed to wake me up when I finally spoke, "Please let me go." My voice rough.

"Kazia, we understand that you must be angry and confused, but you must listen carefully." My father spoke.

I stayed quiet and sat down. I will leave when I'm out of their view.

They both looked at each other like trying to decide who would talk first, until my father deeply exhaled.

"There is really no easy way to say this that will make you understand better. I will just say it then... Right now... We are on a different planet in another galaxy." He spoke with caution.

I erupted in laughter. They were crazy, this is crazy. I had thought of various scenarios of us meeting again, but this one never crossed my mind.

"Just listen, please, we will prove that this is real, but you must give us the chance to explain..." he paused, "This is EarthIIa, a planet located in a neighboring galaxy to yours. Earth and this planet are connected. Only certain people can cross between them. This planet is ruled by different kingdoms that represent a certain gift. Your mother and I rule one of them."

My mother continued, "This isn't your first time here. We all lived here for a year when you were born, until we went back to Earth, where I am from. But we couldn't take you back here when we had to return, which is why we made the difficult decision of leaving you with my mother. There are certain things that you still won't understand."

I deeply sighed to calm myself, "I don't know what happened to you two or how you made this, but I'm leaving. This is sick." I felt myself trembling in anger and fear.

Reaching the tall double doors that I hoped led outside. My mother tried to stop me until my father spoke, "Go ahead, see for yourself." I rolled my eyes and began to open the heavy doors in anger.

As the light touched my face and a cold breeze brushed my hair, every single thought vanished from my mind in an instant.

I saw a big village near the castle. Children played down the streets. They levitated branches in the air without touching them, a flurry of snow accompanying the branches.

"This is Frostarya, the frosted lands." My father spoke proudly.

I couldn't speak nor think.

How is this possible?!

My mind tried to make up an answer, something that would make sense, something that would ease my heart.

Shivers ran through my body as I tried to grasp reality.

I held onto the railing of the front balcony as my mind clouded. My heart began to beat faster as I felt everything around me spin.

Different questions echoed in my head, getting louder each time.

Third Person POV:

She ran inside and sat against the wall next to the doors, trying not to look at the scenery outside any longer.

The drops running down her cheeks were slow at first, but as the questions continued to swirl in her mind, her tears quickly dropped.

"Kazia, please, you are safe here. Should you not be happy right now!" Her father spoke in a rather concerned tone.

She felt all the anger thunder within her as she spoke, "And who in their right mind would be elated to leave all they've known behind and wake up to this nightmare!"

"Do you not realize how privileged you are?! Do not privy yourself of your gift and status! You should be crying tears of joy!" Her father continued.

"What gift?! And what joy! My parents who abandoned me to go live in their little fairytale world?! This is insane!" She questioned if she was going insane as well.

Her father was fuming in desperation. He wondered how he would make his daughter understand.

Her mother stepped in, "Alright, that is enough. Do not push our daughter she deserves all the space and time right now. Pushing her like this won't help anyone. This is not easy for her, you must understand."

He spoke again in frustration, "But how will she understand?"

"I don't need to understand anything. Take me back right now! I don't care for any of this or you." Her tears became more frequent. She felt the knot in her throat dissipate as she succumbed to her sadness. She cried out loud in desperation as she sat on the floor, holding her legs in search of comfort.

All that could echo were her cries of mixed emotions.

Both parents looked at her daughter, who was only a shadow of herself right now. They held fear and worry in their faces. How could they fix their mistake? Was there even a possibility of that now?

Their poor daughter trembled in fear as she loudly cried before them. After so many years without seeing each other, this wasn't exactly the reunion they had in mind.

Her mother finally thought of an idea, "I will get Esla."

Esla. Everything came crashing down again for Kazia as she remembered who brought her here. Her tears momentarily stopped.

How would she react to seeing Esla? Everything has changed now. She felt betrayed by her only friend.

She blankly stared at the floor, no thought in mind as her eyes didn't focus on any particular thing.

Her father broke the silence, and he spoke more softly now, "I am sorry, Kazia. I  promise we will explain everything in better detail when you feel better." He defeatedly sighed, "For any comfort that this could possibly bring you right now, you must know that Esla is actually family, she is your cousin. My younger brother's daughter."

No tears left her eyes, but no comfort was found either. It just made her already horrible headache slightly worse as her mind tried to connect the dots.

The sound of footsteps approached her, she looked up, with no expression on her face until her eyes met Esla. That seemed to set another river of tears within her as Esla sat down next to her, giving her the biggest hug as both cried together.

It utterly broke Esla's heart to see her cousin's once lively self completely destroyed and in shambles. This was not her.

Although Kazia's cries were loud, they were only heard as a muffle. She hugged her only friend and the only person who could bring a small fraction of comfort to her in this nightmare.

She cried louder, not particularly because of sadness. It was almost like mourning her previous life. The chances of going back to that were slim, close to none, and if she ever did get the opportunity, nothing would feel the same again.
