Treasure Hunters
Agent 4 and Jay were relaxing. Jay had something on his mind, but he wasn't going to talk about it. Agent 4 however, could tell something was bothering him.
"Dude, what's going on?" Agent 4 asked him.
"It's just," Jay said. "I feel like I should be getting kicked more than I am, but I don't know why..."
"Why do you want that? Are you secretly a bottom?" Agent 4 asked, straight faced.
"What? No!" Jay said. "It just feels weird. I should ignore it. Maybe a dungeon will take my mind off of it."
"Why don't we do an LFR?" Agent 4 asked.
"Because I need solitary fighting right now." Jay said. "To take my mind off things."
"Hmm..." Agent 4 thought. "I know agent 3 is mad at you and Marie is abusive to you, Rukhar can't stand you and Callie sticks to him like glue, and Frozo is off doing who knows what in the tundra, and Rago is incredibly antisocial, so why don't just us two do a small dungeon, or something? All alone?"
"Is that possible?" Jay asked.
"Well, Callie and Rukhar did it, and they don't have as good of a class composition." Agent 4 replied confidently.
"Sure." Jay said.
The pair then realized they had no idea where a dungeon was.
"Uh... Where will we go?" Jay asked.
"Good question." Agent 4 said.
"I love the memes man." Jay smiled a little. "I can always count on you to use them."
"Perhaps." Agent 4 smirked.
Jay laughed. "It ain't much, but it's honest work."
Agent 4 nodded.
"Let's go find something then." Jay said. "I'm not looking for specific."
"How about we ask Axel, or Jacopo? They might know somewhere." Agent 4 said.
"Eh. Sure." Jay said.
They went out into the halls. However, they couldn't find anyone. But agent 4 had an idea.
"You know, I always wondered about Axels arm. Does it hurt?" He babbled.
Jay didn't know what he was trying to do.
"I don't think so. It's like, maybe Axel got hurt getting it, but how does a chunk of metal hurt?" He replied.
"That's a good point." Agent 4 said.
Axel fell through the ceiling. "Who's talking about me now?"
"Bingo." Agent 4 thought.
"Did you plane that 4?" Jay asked.
"See, I pulled a little sneaky on ya." Agent 4 chuckled.
"Anyways, we were wondering if there were any good simple dungeons around here." Jay said.
"I mean, kind of." Axel said. "The jungle is loaded with them, you just gotta look, but those are mostly elite. Perhaps in the Alpine tundra, but that's too cold. So I'd say try the sandbars. You'll need a boat though."
"Huh. Ok." Jay said. "Let's go 4."
"Sandbars are in the ocean, right?" Agent 4 asked nervously.
"Yeah, but the boats are high quality." Axel said. "You won't fall in."
Agent 4 was nervous, but he followed Jay.
A while later.
The pair had arrived at a seaport. There wasn't much going on at the moment. A few lazy waves rolled gently into the shore down below, and a couple people were haggling with a merchant over oil prices.
"Kinda relaxing, really." Agent 4 commented.
Jay considered pushing him into the water, but he didn't want Marie to kick him again. And he already did that prank to agent 3.
"Where do we get boats though?" Agent 4 wondered aloud.
"Aye, are yee scalawags seeking a seafaring trip now?" A decrepit looking pirate yelled, hearing them.
"Um. Yeah?" Agent 4 wasn't sure how to reply to that. The pirate nodded.
"Then avast we go mateys. Hop aboard!" He said.
Agent 4 and Jay hurried over to him.
The pirate entered the boat in front of them. "And where do yee seek to travel?"
"The sandbars, specifically a dungeon entry." Jay said.
"The lonely sand coffer it be, then. Yo ho ho, to sea we go." The pirate said. He began singing an absolutely terrible sea shanty as they sailed.
The racous noise helped agent 4 ignore the sudden bout of seasickness he was getting.
Soon, they arrived at their destination.
"Thee door be hiding amung the sands." The pirate said. "X will not mark the spot, proceed with caution. I shall wait for yee to return."
Agent 4 hopped happily onto the sandbar. Jay followed him, after paying the travel fee the pirate was remembering.
Mindful of the pirates warning, agent 4 avoided any Xs on the ground. Jay was not as cautious, until he fell into a pitfall trap.
Agent 4 eventually got him out. Soon they found the door, indeed buried a slight bit. Jays custom shoes didn't disturb the sand, but agent 4s normal tennis shoes make a thump when they stepped on the hidden panel. The pair cleared off the sand covering it, and slowly pulled the stone panel back, revealing a ladder into a deep, dark pit. They descended down.
2 minutes later.
"I can't believe a ladder could be that fricken tall." Agent 4 complained.
"Going back up will be the fun part. It's times like this I like the void storage." Jay said.
"Now, what are we looking at here..." Agent 4 looked around. It was too dark to see anything. He raised his sword, and covered it in lightning. The room was lit up for a large area.
A few small streams of water flowed, making a trench in the middle of the room. Several pillars held up the room, and all seemed to be crumbling around the edges. Aquatic vipers swan along the trench, and a few feral looking versions of Nagas patrolled the room.
"So... Waste them?" Agent 4 asked.
Jay changed his scythe into shotgun. "Yes."
The dou rushed at the nagas. They weren't expecting anyone, so they weren't prepared. Jay and agent 4 had them down in an instant.
"That was... Easy." Jay said.
"Yep." Agent 4 nodded.
"Shall we move on?" Jay asked.
Agent 4 looked around. One of the nagas was wearing a key around their neck. He grabbed it. "Yes. There's a door somewhere here."
Jay closed his eyes for a second.
"Back left corner." Exon told him. "Key hole is in the center of the door."
Jay repeated what Exon told him to Agent 4.
Agent 4 nodded, and ran to the door. He opened it. Behind was... nothing.
"What's supposed to be here?" Agent 4 wondered.
"I can't tell." Jay said.
An arrow whizzed by, missing both of them by a hair.
"Ah." Agent 4 said. He charged a lightning rod. "Bold move there." He fired, and a furious hissing was heard.
"Whatever that was, it's a big boi." Jay said, preparing a Dark Claw.
Agent 4 readied a Wrath. He discharged it, and the light revealed a massive blue-green beast. And it's mouth was open.
Exon focused all of his energy.
"Duck!" He shouted.
Jay hit the floor, but Agent 4 wasn't as fast. A Hyperbeam tore through the hallway, and hit him. He was sent head over heels backwards. He did not get back up, but he groaned, signifying that he survived.
Jay was enraged. His dark claw caught the beast in the jaw, tearing long grooves into it. Roaring was heard in reply.
Agent 4 pulled himself to his feet. He was not hurt nearly as bad as he felt, because his sword blocked most of the beam. However, it inflicted Guard Break and Weaken, which his headgear let him know.
"Don't get hit by that laser!" He shouted. "It has nasty side effects."
Jay was using his scythe to keep the beast at bay. He launched a shadowbolt, trying to remember a spell that could weaken it.
Agent 4 was faster. He drew his hero shot, and his ink tank. "Let's get messy..."
The headgear had no idea what he had equipped.
Agent 4 aimed at the beast, and started firing wildly.
Jay turned around, wondering where the sudden spray of ink was coming from. It got all over the beasts face, clogging it's nostrils and blinding it. The ink was completely harmless otherwise, but it also got into the beasts mouth, which is what agent 4 planned on. He went into his squid form and swam along the trail he made.
"They can do that?" Jay looked, bewildered.
Agent 4 hopped into the beasts mouth, and popped out of the ink with his sword, tearing apart the inside of the beasts mouth. It had no armor there, and was direly injured, even with the Weaken effect in agent 4.
Agent 4 ran out of the beast's open mouth, before it slammed it's jaws shut and roared in blind fury. It was however, still blinded by the ink. It spit out blood and ink, and charged another Hyperbeam, this time facing the left wall. Agent 4 and Jay moved to the right, and the be missed by a sizable margin.
"Let's get him." Jay changed his scythe back into a shotgun and began blasting the beast. It's nose was literally shot clean off, and large chunks of its face were shredded. Slowly, it withdrew it's head from the hallway and into a hole in the ceiling, which shut behind it. Lots of ink and blood adorned the hallway.
"Dude, why didn't you tell me you could do that?" Jay asked, looking at agent 4s gun. "That thing looks like an assault rifle, kinda."
Agent 4 put his hero shot away. "It's a thing all Inklings can do. Sorry I didn't mention it, I didn't think it would be useful. What about you? I know that loud voice wasn't yours."
Jay scratched his head. "The staff all know about this, but I have a demon in my head. His name is Exon, and he usually doesn't do anything besides talk to me in my head. That's the 'assistance' I talked about that lets me know what people are thinking."
Agent 4 looked at him with an expression of curiosity. "What's he look like?" He eventually asked.
"Nothing like Rago, if you're curious." Jay said. "He looks like a smooth anime antagonist, pretty much. I haven't seen him myself in ages. I collect demon charms to make him stronger. Maybe he can come out when I get enough."
"Anime huh? Neat." Agent 4 said.
"Shall we continue, now that we know each others secret skills?" Jay asked.
Agent 4 changed into a squid to zip down the hall. When he got to the end of the mess, he reverted. "Yep. Let's go."
The pair went further. They didn't see anything, besides another Naga patrol that was easily dealt with.
"Getting concerned here." Agent 4 said. "That beast got away, I'm just waiting to get slammed by him."
"Exon will sense him. Relax." Jay said.
"True. What's it like to have him in there?" Agent 4 asked.
"Well, I get headaches sometimes, whenever Exon gets mad, but it's a small price to pay for salvation." Jay replied.
Agent 4 chuckled. After a moment, Jay stopped.
"More ahead. There's a lot this time. Have you mastered Chain Lightning?" He asked.
"Nope." Said Agent 4. "But I can use a Lightning Rod if enough line up."
"Hmm..." Jay thought for a minute. "In 8 seconds, shoot this way." He motioned with his scythe.
Agent 4 counted to 8 and fired a Lightning Rod, hitting almost every target in the room. Some were not effected, but the majority were leveled. The reminder turned to the entrance.
"All mages, expect that one archer." Jay said dryly. "How fun..."
Agent 4 turned into a squid again. "Toss me with your Dark Claw." He said. "I'll handle them."
Jay used a Dark Claw, and Agent 4 jumped into it before Jay fired it out. The Nagas moved away, but Agent 4 reverted behind them, and slashed wide with his sword. Several were deeply wounded, and the rest were pushed back. Jay used the distraction to toss a barrage of knives, tagging all of the Nagas. Most keeled over after that, and Agent 4 slew the few that stayed standing.
"Alright. Passive skill makes this a pushover." Agent 4 said smugly.
"Save some for me man." Jay joked. "I gotta cronch some experience too."
"I'm the one who has a health req for things." Agent 4 countered.
"Oh yeah. You're gonna leave." Jay said sadly.
"Dude. Before I say anything, look at Callie. Do you really think she won't try to come back?" Agent 4 said.
Jay thought about it. "Maybe..."
"Agent 3 has never been happier since she learned to swim. I see her in the pool all the time, it's ridiculous how much she loves the water. And she'll miss at least the building, if no one in it." Agent 4 pressed.
Jay nodded slightly.
"Marie and her new gun collection. If nothing else she loves the classes. It's something stimulating for her. Our weapons take 5 minutes to get a feel for and that's it. And there's so few kinds. She loves the variety here, and the landscape. I hear she's going with Frozo on one of his Arctic explorations because she doesn't mind the cold anymore." He kept up.
Jay said nothing.
"Our magic needs to recharge here. I found some books on it while learning my Lightning moves. It won't recharge in Inkopolis, so we will have to come back to keep using it." Agent 4 said, preparing his final statement.
"Makes sense..." Jay said.
"And most importantly, you're the only friend besides the other agents I've ever had, and by far the most interesting one." He finished.
Jays eyes watered just the tiniest amount.
"Of course we'll find a way to come back. Axel's a miracle man, I'm sure he's got some gizmo or something to let us travel back here.
Jay nodded, vigorous this time. "Thanks man." He said. "Now, let's get this bread."
"How do you know it's the end?" Agent 4 asked.
"The huge ass door right there." Jay pointed out.
"Hmm. Yeah that does give it away sometimes." Agent 4 said.
"Let's go." They both said.
Once through the door, they were met with an unwelcome sight. The room was a massive circle. In the center of the floor was a gate. Just like the one back in the tunnel. And the gate was opening.
"Don't tell me..." Agent 4 groaned.
"I think it is..." Jay said irritably.
The ink and blood stained face of the beast erupted from the hole in the ground. Upon seeing it in better lighting, it looked similar to a sea serpent, but bigger and angrier.
"That's one ugly monstrosity." Agent 4 commented. The beast charged a Hyperbeam.
"Oh dear." Agent 4 rolled to the side, and Jay ran to the other side. Not one but 3 hyperbeams shot out of the beasts mouth. Agent 4 dodged, but Jay was hit directly by one.
"Gah!" He doubled over. However, he was able to crawl out of the beasts range. Agent 4 ran around to provoke it. He drew his hero shot again and sprayed some ink at the beast to get it's attention. The ink burned the deep gashes in the beasts face. It roared in reply, and bit at agent 4. He jumped away, and it crashed into a wall.
"Ha!" He said.
Jay had pulled himself into a sitting position, and was struggling to stand up.
The beast blasted another set of hyperbeams at agent 4. He avoided them narrowly. Then he sent a lightning rod at the beasts head.
Jay got to his feet, and began moving into a tactical position.
Agent 4 used his ink to get close to the beast, and delivered a punishing barrage of attacks to it's armored neck, forcing it to lower its head.
Jay took advantage of this to weakly toss several toxic knives using a Dark Claw.
"This Weakness is no joke..." He groaned.
The poison did work quickly. The beast immediately became weary. Agent 4 grabbed onto it's head as it rose back up. He jabbed his sword deep into the beasts eye, and held on tight. The beast swung it's head around wildly, and eventually slammed into the ground. Agent 4 was knocked off, and he pulled the sword out when he fell. The beast collapsed, dizzy.
Jay and agent 4 slashed at it while it was down. Many chunks of flesh were shot off or lopped off. The beast rapidly became exhausted, and curled up. Then it growled. And swung it's head around and around. Jay and Agent 4 were crushed to the back of it's neck as it spun. Agent 4 stabbed it in a loose plate, and it stopped. The beast slowly retracted it's head into the hole, and the door closed.
"I think we won?" Agent 4 said uncertainly.
"Let's book it." Jay said.
Using Agent 4s sword as a cane, Jay moved quickly across the room to the far side door. Agent 4 was already there. He wrenched it open with his hero shot.
Inside was a highly decorated treasure coffer, made of amythysts and gold. Agent 4 pushed it open.
Jay caught up. "Hang on man!"
Inside the chest was.... Water.
"What kind of joke is this?" Jay said, aghast.
"Not a funny one." Agent 4 said.
The treasure coffer cracked. Water ran out, into hidden drains around it.
"Neat?" Agent 4 said.
The ground rose up, revealing another chest, smaller than the first one. Jay opened it. This chest actually had things.
Agent 4 pulled out several red charms.
"What are these?" He asked.
"Healing crystals, I think..." Jay said. "But don't quote me on that."
Jay fished out a decorated knife.
"Fancy." He pocketed it. "If only it weren't a water weapon."
There were also many blue gems. Both took several.
"Well, there's one item left." Agent 4 looked at Jay.
"Take it." Jay said.
Agent 4 pulled out... Seaweed.
"Reality is often disappointing." Jay said.
Agent 4 tossed it back. "Meh." He said. "I got these healing gems."
"Pretty sure Rukhar has one, but it's like, good. I think those are one time use things." Jay said.
"Better once than never." Agent 4 put them in his pocket. The pair left the dungeon.
Back on the sandbar, they got back onto the pirate ship.
"Did yee lads find what yee seek?" He asked.
"Yep." Agent 4 said. "May we return to shore?"
"Yes yee can lads. Yo ho ho, away we go." The pirate started singing sea shanties again.
