Team of Two
After selling all the loot from the Rainbow Quartz Hydra, Rukhar and Callie went back to the facility. It was quiet, and not many people were out and about. Probably not because it was late, as few people gave a damn about that. No, there just happened to be other things going on tomorrow. As Callie and Rukhar found out when they saw 33 LFR groups on their headsets, all filled.
"That's uh... Far too many." Rukhar said.
"Aww.... But a raid sounds fun..." Callie said, disappointed there were no open groups besides one for 2 in the morning full of vampires.
Rukhar felt a bit bad Callie was missing out on the experience because she wanted to go to the market. However, he had an idea.
The next day, Callie was woken up early by Rukhar. The first thing she noticed was that he had his battle gear on, and his bow equipped. He also had a small camera drone in his pouch, but she didn't see it.
"What's going on?" She asked, a little tired.
"I wanted to apologise that you didn't get to go on a raid." Rukhar said. "So I went and found a dungeon we can go do together."
"Aww Rukhar..." Callie said. "You didn't have to do that..."
"Well, I guess I wanted to." Rukhar said. "Anyways, do you wanna go?"
"Alright." Callie smiled. "Just let me get ready first."
"Can do." Rukhar said, closing the door and taking a seat in the hall. "It's unorthodox, but I call this a first date." He thought to himself.
Half an hour later, and Callie was ready to start the day. Her light armor was on, and she had her hammer. She beamed at Rukhar, and asked "where to?"
Rukhar pulled out a map he had made last night. "Ok, it's in the dark forest." He said.
"Your kidding!" Callie said strongly. "That sounds like a horrible place!"
"Actually, it's not that bad." Rukhar said. "Pretty tranquil. Just dark."
"If you say so." Callie said. "I'll do it for you."
Rukhar smiled. "That's why I like you Callie." He said. "Anyways, I'll ask for the village flight master to send us there, unless you wanna walk for a couple hours."
"Can't say I'm a fan of that. Fly it is." Callie said.
No more than 10 minutes later, they were at the village. Rukhar led her to a tall stick in the ground, where a seemingly very old person was standing.
"Excuse me miss." Rukhar said. "I'd like to request a flight for two to the dark forest, please."
The lady just pointed up. A sign that Callie hadn't noticed before said "10 credits round trip per mile. 15 for pairs."
The dark forest was only a couple miles away, so Rukhar nodded, and produced 30 credits.
The woman stood up, and pulled out a stone. After a moment, a gargoyle appeared. "Get." She rasped. "She come back when done. No lose."
"I know ma'am." Rukhar said. "Come on Callie. It doesn't bite."
Callie was a bit hesitant about the gargoyle, but she got on anyways. Her fears instantly vanished when the beast went airborne. It was the most fun thing she'd ever done.
A few minutes later, the pair landed in the Dark Forest. The gargoyle sat around idly, as they dismounted and started following the map. Within a minute they found a black door adorned with a few heads, but nothing too fantastic.
"You ready?" Rukhar asked.
"You know it!" Callie replied. She drew her hammer.
They entered...
Once inside, there was nothing but a long corridor. As they walked down it, they could have sworn the statues adorning the alcoves and walls were watching them. When they were about halfway through, a voice shouted from above.
"What are You doing here?" An old sounding voice rasped. "Foolish kids. None have dared fight us!"
"And what if we do?" Rukhar asked.
"I suppose you'll need to learn your lessons..." The voice replied, from all around them. "Get them, and teach them their place!"
With no proper warning, every stature came to life. Two dozen imp-like figures, and 8 large skeleton figures. They charged, and Rukhar and Callie were caught in the middle.
Rukhar loaded his new arrows, and fired a pair of ensnaring shots at the way the dou came from, blocking half the statues advance.
Callie meanwhile, was holding her hammer for a charged hit. She struck down the lead statue, and Rukhar shot the one behind it with an explosive arrow.
"Fire won't hurt them!" He said. "They are just dumb rocks, keep hitting them."
"Noted." Callie said. She swing hard, pulverizing another smaller statue. "Just like that!"
Between explosive arrows and the heavy hits from Callie's hammer, the first half of the statues were rapidly defeated.
"Should we get the rest?" Callie asked.
"But of course." Rukhar said. "Look at em, all piled up."
"Slamdown?" Callie asked.
"You won't burn em, but sure. You'll catch a few with the shockwave." Rukhar replied.
Callie went squid form, and jumped at the wall of vines from the ensnaring shots. She switched back midair, and landed a perfectly aimed Slamdown, flattening all of the smaller statues in one go.
Rukhar let off a torrent of quick explosive shots, and subdued the larger statues, while they hesitated.
"Easy." He said.
"Yep!" Callie replied energeticly.
They continued down the passage, and were met with... Nothing.
"What?" Callie asked.
Rukhar kicked a wall. By chance, it was a secret door, and it swung open.
"Really..." Callie said. "These dungeons are cheeky."
They entered the room behind the door. They saw a throne, and many coffins.
"Hmm." Rukhar said, kicking one open.
A skeleton popped out.
"Ah!" Callie said, hitting it with her hammer.
It crumbled to dust.
"Hm." Said Rukhar. "Sure."
They continued, not opening any other coffins. When they got to the throne, a shadow figure was sitting there.
"Bold new adventures to join my collection..." He said. "But so few... Such a shame I must waste time..."
"That's funny." Rukhar said. "I hope you're ready for a fight."
"Always..." The figure vanished.
A crescendo of grinding stone came from behind the pair. Every remaining skeleton was getting the their feet.
"Wow guy." Rukhar said. He shot a regular arrow, and took out two skeletons with the shot.
"We have a bit more experience than these fools." He said.
Callie swung her hammer, and cleared 6 in the swipe.
It took them all of 10 seconds to wipe out the skeletons. Then, the dust began gathering into a vague shape.
The shape became less vague.
And the shape became more familiar.
And the shape took a form.
Of a giant skeleton, with the man's clothing.
"I am Necro!" He yelled. "And you will not win!" A bolt of shadow gathered in his hand.
"A shadowbolt. Block it with a fireball." Rukhar said.
Callie gathered a fireball in her hand, and tossed it at the oncoming shadowbolt. The attacks collided, and fissled out. Meanwhile, Rukhar shot an ensnaring shot at Necro. He was bound in place.
"Fools!" Necro yelled. He waved a large arm, and several skeletons appeared.
Though it was fast, Necro had broken free in the time it took Rukhar to shoot the skeletons. He tossed another shadowbolt, and Callie blocked again.
Rukhar took a chance shot, and hit the ceiling above Necro with several explosive arrows. Tiles rained down, peppering the large skeleton. Callie took the opportunity to run forwards, pirouette, and hit Necro with a spinning attack. He was sent back by the hit.
"Gah! You fiends!" He yelled in anger.
Necro got back to his feet, and grew two more arms from the dust of the skeletons from earlier. He made four shadowbolts at once, but Rukhar hir his skull with an explosive arrow. He collapsed once more, and crumbled to dust.
"That was... Pitiful." Rukhar said.
But Necro wasn't done. A dark shadow rose in front of the pair.
"I'm not finished with you!" He cried. "And now, you cannot harm me! A ghost is not killable! You will perish!"
Rukhar stabbed him with a normal arrow.
Necro gasped in pain. "How?..."
"Dunno." Rukhar said. "But I know you ain't got anything on us."
Callie jumped behind Necro with a superjump, and swing her hammer. It didn't phase through Necro, which is what he thought would happen. The impact sent his frail body into a wall.
"I see..." He coughed. "I understand now... Those bound by love may surpass the limits of reality for each other..." He exploded into particles.
Despite no one else being within miles, both Callie and Rukhar blushed.
"So uh..." Rukhar said, trying to ease the mood.
"You like me that much?" Callie asked.
"Not like you're any different." Rukhar laughed. They hugged, and turned to the throne.
"Should we uh... check it?" Callie asked.
Rukhar kicked it over.
"Nothing here." He said.
Callie checked where Necro had died. A vial was sitting there.
"Dark essence, huh?" Rukhar saw it.
"Then we shouldn't give it to Jay." Callie joked.
"He's already dark enough." Rukhar jokingly agreed.
Smiling, the pair left the dungeon.
Once outside, Rukhar released the camera drone, and said "say victory!"
Callie beamed, and the pair both waited a moment.
"Victory!" They said, holding up peace signs with their hands. The drone snapped the picture.
