Suprising Examination (Part 1)
The agents were fast learners, which was good considering the time crunch. The test was scheduled later in the afternoon, because apparently it still hadn't been set up. With practice, the agents had mostly mastered the skills they had been taught. 4 had learned one further skill, chain lightning, but it was weak still, probably because he didn't yet have lightning bolt down. At noon, speakers all around the facility came to life, and Axel was making the announcement.
"Attention all advanced students! The exam is to begin in 6 hours. You will go in groups of 8 into a low level dungeon. The dungeons are all brand new, we have not actually explored them, but they are all rank easy, so ready assured. Find your groups now, and start talking strategy!" He yelled, and the speakers turned off.
"Do I want to know?" Asked Agent 3.
"Well, we can ask someone." Said Marie.
"But they don't know what's in these 'dungeons'" said Callie.
"No like, what is a dungeon?" Said Agent 4.
"Ah." Callie felt a little silly.
Jacopo walked by. Agent 4 saw him.
"Mr. Jacopo! What's a dungeon?" He asked.
"What? Oh, it's the Inklings. Yeah, a dungeon is basically a smelly underground series of rooms and hallways full of enemies. I wish you luck." He said.
"Thanks!" Replied Callie.
"Well, we need a team. Time to find some other people, then." Said Marie, as they all left for the central sanctum.
It took a bit, but they found one person who was clearly not in a group waiting. They approached him.
"Hey!" Said Callie. "Do you have a team already?"
"Nope." The person said. They were a human, with several short swords and hand axes in sheaths on their legs, and a fancy composite bow on their back.
"Us neither! You wanna team up?" Callie asked.
"Maybe." Said the person. "What're your classes, and I guess also names?"
"Oh! My name's Callie! I'm a... Brawler, was it?" Said Callie.
"Yes. And I'm Marie." Said Marie. "Gunslinger. I guess."
Agent 3 just gave her number, as did agent 4.
"Bomber " said agent 3.
"It was called spellsword, I think." Said agent 4.
"Well, sure. Good melee classes, I was looking for some." Said the person. "Names Rukhar. Ranger, swordsman." He said.
"Cool name!" Said Callie. "Now we just need 3 more!"
A while later, in seconds.
An elegant looking human with brilliant yellow hair approached.
"Excuse me ladies, are you lacking in group members?" He asked, very casually.
"Uh.. yeah!" Marie stuttered.
"It's a pleasure. Frozo, Archer, Brawler." He said.
"Does everyone here have fancy names?" Marie wondered.
"Cool! Did you want to team up?" Callie said.
"So damn innocent..." Rukhar thought.
"My pleasure, fair lady." Frozo said.
After a short while, agent 3 suddenly disappeared, and came back with a mage, from who knows where.
"Guys I found one!" She said. "He is a mage, and his name's Aioragothroxiteoralicaskat... I think..."
"Call me Rago, before you hurt yourself..." The mage groaned.
"Please." Said Marie.
"Ok!" Said Callie. "Now we need one more.
A whole wolf ran up and crashed into everyone.
"Dammit Saber, I said down boy, not down THE boy..." Another person mumbled, followed him. "Sorry Exon, there goes another party opportunity..." He started to say to himself.
"Aww! A puppy!" Said Callie. "Where's your owner, little guy?" She crooned.
"Cal that thing is 4 times your size. He's not a puppy." Marie said tiredly.
The person ran up. "Down Saber. Get off the poor kid." He said. The he turned to the group. "I was gonna ask to party, but..."
"Yes!" Said Callie.
"...what?" Asked the person.
"I love the doggy! Are you taking him to the dungeon?" Callie asked.
"Yeah. He would eat my room otherwise." The person said.
Callie squealed in delight.
"I think that means please join us." Rago said.
"Yeah..." Agent 3 said.
"Sure. The names Jay, and I'm Destroyer and Assassain." Jay said.
"That's a lot of destroyers..." Ruhkar thought to himself.
"Well, at least we have monster repellent." Said Jay.
"How did you...?" Rukhar asked.
Jay just smiled. Then, in a cryptic tone, he said "oh, I've got assistance..."
"Well, lets go do the dungeon!" Said Callie.
"But that's in 4 hours." Said Rago.
"Then what do we do..." Said Callie, almost sounding sad.
"So... Pure..." Rukhar thought.
Jay gave him a knowing look. Then he whispered "I think you have a C-R-U-S-H..."
"Ack! Shut up, you." Rukhar said indignantly.
"Why don't we practice as a team?" Rago suggested.
"What's everyone's magic?" Asked Frozo. "I'm lightning and ice."
"Ice." Said Marie.
"Fire!" Said Callie.
"I... Dark and Healing." Said Rago.
"How?" Asked Rukhar, shocked.
"I got a healing spells tome from a rare loot crate, last time I did this. Maybe I can use it to pass this time." Said Rago.
"Fancy." Said Rukhar. "Well, I'm nature.
"Water..." Said agent 3, unenthusiastic.
"Lightning." Said agent 4.
"Dark..." Said Jay, needlessly creepy.
"Ok, so we have a good blend of debuff, healing, and damage magic. Shame there's no buffs though." Said Rukhar.
"Well, practice." Said Rago. "We gotta get ready."
"So you don't fail again." Agent 3 said softly. "It'll be ok."
"Y-yeah! Why am I worried?" Said Rago.
"Who was your team last time?" Asked Callie.
"Literally just 7 nature artillerymen." Said Rago.
"Which is..." Prompted Callie.
"A bad idea. Artilleryman is the defense form of bomber, and nature is healing. We beat one enemy in the time it took some groups to sweep the whole dungeon, and go back to look for loot afterwards." Said Rago, as if in a bad flashback.
"I give you the largest F my dude. Now, let's get ready." Said Jay.
"This fricken dude..." Thought Rukhar.
Frozo didn't get it. "Why does he need a large letter?" He asked.
"It's an expression." Said Jay. "And I know what your thinking over there Rukhar! Calm yo self!"
"No." Said Rukhar.
The group went outside to practice, because the dojo was full. Very, very full. And Marie was pretty sure she smelled smoke. Callie was standing on Saber the whole time. She was very light, so Saber didn't mind.
"I see you like Saber. I think he likes you too." Said Jay.
"Do you have any other cool pets?" Asked Callie.
"I have a phoenix, but he is in the pet medical ward, healing from when Saber went for his wing." Said Jay.
"Sounds like he was taken out just before this thing. It almost feels like a last minute editors change in a book..." Thought Marie.
"Well, ignore that for now. We got us a test to pass." Said Jay.
"I hope..." Thought Rago.
"You better not screw this up, weirdo." Thought Rukhar.
"He makes so little sense..." Thought Frozo. "That is awful Grammer."
A/N no I'm not sorry for all the fourth wall breaks in my stories. You can deal with em >:). Also, sorry for the short chapter, I had to put character introduction in its own chapter. I am adding all OC bios to the ES characters chapter after the next chapter is complete. That way these new characters, which will serve a large role, will be documented for future readers. You're welcome all.
